The Darby was an amazing experience with little touches of extraordinary charm around every corner. There was the initial check in, for my partner and I it was after midnight, when we spotted 6 Deer 馃 just roaming around The Darby property. The room was a bit small for a standard king, however the bed and comforter was so comfortable. The cleanliness was remarkable and the towels weren't the scratchy kind. No microwave, no TV, but a little cute retro refrigerator and a pair of binoculars. The service was minimal by design, checking in and out online or via text was seamless, allowing us to focus on relaxation. Don't miss out on the bar for excellent drinks, or try a game of pool in the lounge. There are also many board games to choose from. I could go on and on about the friendliness of the staff and owner and the slim Jim eating dog, but whatever you do don't feed the dog a slim Jim.

The hotel's location offers beautiful views, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the scenic surroundings of the Poconos region.

Despite its secluded feel, The Darby is conveniently situated for those wishing to explore local attractions. It is notably a very convenient 15-minute drive from the popular Woodloch Resort, making it an excellent choice for visitors attending events or seeking alternative accommodation close to this well-known destination. The accessibility to such a major resort while retaining its own quiet ambiance is a significant advantage of The Darby's location. The surrounding area offers opportunities for enjoying the natural beauty of Pennsylvania, providing a serene backdrop for a relaxing getaway.

The check-in and check-out process is streamlined and modern, primarily handled online or via text. This minimal-by-design service approach allows guests to focus on relaxation without the need for extensive traditional hotel interactions, promoting a sense of freedom and ease. However, this does not mean a lack of attentiveness; on the contrary, the staff and owner are consistently described as incredibly friendly and accommodating.

The rooms at The Darby, while perhaps a bit smaller for a standard king as noted by one guest, are celebrated for their remarkable comfort and cleanliness. The beds and comforters are exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The quality of amenities is evident in the details, such as the non-scratchy towels, which contribute significantly to guest comfort. Each room is appointed with charming retro refrigerators, adding a touch of whimsy and practicality. A thoughtful touch that sets The Darby apart is the provision of binoculars in the rooms, encouraging guests to enjoy the natural views and perhaps spot more of the local wildlife. It's important to note that rooms do not typically feature microwaves or televisions, aligning with The Darby's emphasis on a more unplugged, relaxed, and intimate experience. This absence encourages guests to engage with their surroundings and the hotel's amenities, rather than being confined to their rooms by electronic distractions.

One of the most delightful services offered at The Darby is the adorable continental breakfast. Guests have specifically mentioned being graciously offered plenty of snacks when the kitchen was closed upon their late arrival, a testament to the staff's accommodating nature. This attention to guest needs, even outside of standard service hours, highlights The Darby's commitment to hospitality. The presence of a pitcher of water in the room is another small but significant touch that enhances guest comfort and convenience.

Unique Charms and Guest Experiences

The Darby is truly a hidden gem, and its charm lies in the "little touches of extraordinary charm around every corner." The overall vibe is one of quaintness and comfort, with a distinct personality that makes it stand out from more generic hotel offerings. The friendliness of the staff and owner is a recurring theme in guest reviews, contributing significantly to the welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. A memorable anecdote shared by a guest involves a "slim Jim eating dog," which further illustrates the unique and personable character of the establishment (though it's advised not to actually feed the dog Slim Jims!). This informal and friendly interaction contributes to the overall relaxed and home-like feeling that guests appreciate.

The decor throughout the hotel is described as "very cute," reflecting a thoughtful aesthetic that adds to the boutique feel. The combination of comfortable beds, pristine cleanliness, and distinctive room amenities like the retro refrigerator and binoculars creates a truly memorable stay. Guests who are looking for a break from constant digital stimulation will particularly appreciate the absence of televisions, allowing for a more profound sense of relaxation and connection with their companions or the peaceful environment.

The Darby is a hidden gem with beautiful views and very comfortable rooms. We were looking for a place that was close to Woodloch Resort and it was a very convenient 15 min drive. We stayed in a King Room and the bed was SUPER comfortable and the decor was very cute. Also loved how there was a pitcher of water in the room. The staff was so friendly and accommodating and we loved the vibe at the bar. The kitchen was closed by the time we got back from the wedding but they graciously gave us plenty of snacks to hold us over until the adorable continental breakfast in the morning. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quaint place to stay in the area!

I don't mind paying $230 to a small business that is improving the community for a night's hotel stay. I do mind though paying that much money for a hotel room that is very cold and does not have a thermostat or way to adjust the temperature. There is no TV in the rooms which I鈥檝e never seen before, I feel like that should be noted on their information somewhere, never in my life have I seen a hotel room without a TV. We were really looking forward to some pastries which were described as offered in the package we paid for but when we asked about them we were told there were none. What the heck??? I know it's so small but we relied on those and didn't get breakfast for the morning because we paid for breakfast pastries, alas the owner said there were none. What the heck? The hotel is cute and charming and it鈥檚 evident they鈥檙e pushing the Brooklyn vibe and mostly succeeding but they fail on some simple etiquettes.

Things to know from my stay: some safety concerns. The path from the parking lot to the front entrance is sloped and very dark at night. There鈥檚 no one at the desk after certain hours. And if you check in when no one is at the desk, your key is left out on the counter showing your name and room number. These were noted on my business trip in summer 2023. I鈥檇 be happy to amend my review if these issues have been addressed since then.

Pros - Cute, clean, nice employees, decent location, comfy bed, nice sheets, dog friendly (they even gave us a ball and poop bags). Free pool table and games. Fire pits available. Cons - Safety NOT guaranteed (I was a locksmith for 10 years). Door locks are unbelievably cheap on room doors (our dog sniffed another door and it pushed open) and our chain lock was installed backwards. So when the door is pushed open, it falls out providing zero security. Bathroom windows are about 95% covered in window film, but if you're walking around outside you can still see inside. No one is on site after hours. Lots of missing art on the walls with just screws and holes along common areas. Bathroom door wouldn't close in our room. First impressions aren't great (piles of ice melt and a rusty cart just parked outside the entry door). Zero accommodations if you want to walk into town (no path or any lights for safety, we used our cellphone light while having to walk in the road to get to the bridge). Cocktails at the bar are NYC prices. No beer available. Piles of junk by the common bathroom outside of the bar. Siding on the main house area is very dirty and green (not nice looking at all). ZERO sound dampening. We brought a fan and Bluetooth headbands for white noise. Our new friend showed us their room. One window which was covered by a window AC unit and had a bathroom the size of our NYC apartment. The units are all over the place when it comes to size, layout, and views. Overall, we would stay again if we were in the area, but might look for other accommodations if we needed good rest. As a General Contactor based in NYC, they cut corners on the renovation which severely affects safety and comfort.
