My stay The Gaslamp Philly overall was comfortable and charming room experience. The location is fantastic—I love the walkability to the old city area, making it easy to explore the area on foot and see all the historical sites and resturants. For those traveling solo, there are cars and people out and about through the night. The building sits a little to the right, infront of Elfreth's Alley. The overall aesthetic of the hotel walkway entry, courtyard and main building entry door has nice vintage touches that give it a lot of character. A few things to keep in mind: this is a historic building and for this particular room you will hear the footsteps and movement of other guests shuffling to get upstairs and the main building door opening and closing. If you're a light sleeper, I would not recommend booking the Davy room—it is directly by the main building entry door. That said, if you're used to a bit of city ambiance or travel with earplugs, you’ll probably be fine. The Davy room does not have a place to put or hangers to hang your clothes, it is a spacious room with one soft chair and then a hallway leads to the spacious bathroom and the kitchenette. You do have immediate access to the outside courtyard where there are chairs and tables. Another key takaway there is no lobby/lounge area once you enter the building, but guests can use the courtyard space -just be mindful of your noise chatter level. Still, the character and location make it a great choice for those looking for something with more personality than a standard chain hotel.
For individuals and travelers actively seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" that offer a blend of historical charm, unique character, and an unbeatable location in Philadelphia, The Gas Lamp Hotel presents itself as a true hidden gem. Situated at 140 N 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA, this boutique property is not just a place to stay, but an experience in itself, deeply rooted in the historic fabric of Old City. Its location, slightly to the right and in front of the famous Elfreth's Alley, places guests amidst the city's most iconic historical sites and vibrant culinary scene.
The Gas Lamp Hotel boasts a delightful "charming room experience" and an overall aesthetic that exudes character. The building itself is historic, and this heritage is embraced through "nice vintage touches" in the hotel walkway entry, courtyard, and main building entry door. These elements contribute to a warm, inviting, and unique ambiance that stands apart from the often generic feel of standard chain hotels. Guests appreciate this distinct personality, which makes their stay more memorable.
The rooms are described as "spotless," "very nicely decorated," and offering a "comfortable bed." While the property is a historic building, the interiors are carefully maintained to provide a fresh and aesthetically pleasing environment. A cozy "downstairs area" and a "cute little courtyard" offer additional spaces for guests to relax. However, it's important to set expectations for a historic property: guests may hear "footsteps and movement of other guests" and the main building door opening and closing. For light sleepers, rooms directly by the main entry door, such as the "Davy room," might be less ideal due to noise. That said, for those accustomed to city ambiance or who travel with earplugs, this contributes to the authentic charm rather than detracting from the experience. The outdoor courtyard, with its chairs and tables, provides a lovely, albeit shared, outdoor space for guests to enjoy, with a gentle reminder to be mindful of noise levels.
The Gas Lamp Hotel operates with a modern, "contactless entrance" system, providing guests with a seamless and independent check-in process. This approach is facilitated by "good online communications," ensuring guests receive clear instructions and feel well-informed before and during their stay. This self-service model is efficient and offers flexibility for arrival times, appealing to travelers who prefer convenience over traditional front desk interactions.
Within the rooms, guests can expect thoughtful amenities designed for a comfortable stay. The rooms are "spacious," providing ample living area. A key amenity mentioned is the "kitchenette," which offers guests the convenience of preparing light meals or snacks, a valuable feature for those seeking more independence or looking to save on dining expenses. While a traditional lobby/lounge area within the main building entrance is not present, the accessible courtyard space serves as an alternative communal area where guests can relax. It's noted that specific rooms, like the Davy room, may not have traditional closets or hangers for clothes, which is a consideration for packing. However, the presence of soft chairs and the overall spaciousness ensure comfort. The very comfortable beds and linens are consistently highlighted as a positive aspect of the room amenities, ensuring a restful sleep.
The Gas Lamp Hotel's most compelling feature is its "fantastic" and "perfect" location. Situated directly in Philadelphia's Old City, it offers "great walkability" to all the historical sites, restaurants, and attractions. Being right in front of Elfreth's Alley, one of America's oldest residential streets, adds to its unique appeal. Guests can easily explore iconic landmarks like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and various museums and eateries on foot, making it an ideal base for experiencing Philadelphia's rich history and vibrant culture. For those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with immediate access to historical treasures, this location is unparalleled.
Another significant highlight is the "charming" and unique "character" of the hotel. It provides a refreshing alternative to generic chain hotels, appealing to travelers who seek accommodations with personality and a sense of place. The spotless and nicely decorated rooms, combined with the comfortable beds and the convenience of a kitchenette, contribute to a highly positive guest experience. The cozy courtyard offers a lovely outdoor space for relaxation, and the contactless check-in adds a modern touch of efficiency to the historic setting.
The Gas Lamp Hotel is consistently described as a "hidden Gem" offering a highly satisfying experience. Guests express a strong desire to "hope to stay again," which speaks volumes about the value it provides. Despite being a historic building with some ambient noise, the overall comfort, unique character, and unbeatable location make it a highly recommended choice. For those traveling solo, the presence of "cars and people out and about through the night" in the area provides a sense of security.
The hotel positions itself as an excellent option for travelers looking for something "with more personality than a standard chain hotel." It offers a blend of historical immersion and modern convenience, at a price point that is justified by its unique features and prime location. If you are exploring "Hotels Near Of Me" in Philadelphia and desire a memorable, charming, and highly convenient stay within walking distance of the city's most iconic attractions, The Gas Lamp Hotel is an outstanding choice that promises a comfortable and authentic experience.

Apr 20, 2025 · TennilleThe Gas Lamp Hotel is a hidden Gem in a great location. Easy contactless entrance, and good online communications. The room was spotless, very nicely decorated, and a very comfortable bed too. Cozy downstair area and cute little courtyard. We hope to stay again.
Apr 22, 2025 · John NealeRoom was clean, cozy, and unique. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The room had everything you needed from coffee and tea to soaps and lotions. Excellent location as it is right in the middle of shopping, dining, and sight seeing. Parking is a slight pain as it is only first come first serve street parking. There is a parking garage fairly close if there is no street parking available. I look forward to booking this stay again.
