We stayed at the Grafton Inn for a wedding weekend that was held there. We experienced the hospitality of the entire staff for breakfast, lunch, and dinner multiple times and at each time, the staff was amazing and the food was delicious. From the welcoming hostess, to the lively bartender, and the ever present with a smile wait staff who took care of our every need (especially Sara and Lisa!), we enjoyed all of our interactions that they served up for us. The variety of food we enjoyed at the Phelps Barn and the Tavern was unique, delicious, and always on point. The chefs and cook staff should be commended for their skills not only on the exceptional food they prepared but the speed and manner in which they provided it. All things considered, it was an outstanding experience in dining and hospitality from a collaboration of professionals set in the most charming locale. THANK-YOU!
For those searching under the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in the picturesque town of Grafton, Massachusetts, The Grafton Inn at 25 Grafton Cmn, Grafton, MA 01519, USA, presents itself as a historic and charming option. This establishment aims to offer a unique blend of old-world charm with hospitality services, though guest experiences can vary significantly.
The Grafton Inn is situated in a charming locale, offering a quintessential New England village experience. The address, 25 Grafton Cmn, places it right in the heart of Grafton, providing a picturesque setting. The inn itself is housed in a historic building, and efforts are made to preserve its traditional ambiance, evident in the hand-hewn beams and antique furnishings within the rooms. This historical character is a significant draw for guests seeking a more authentic and less corporate lodging experience. The surrounding area offers opportunities for walks and enjoying the local charm, particularly during the fall and winter seasons.
While the overall environment aims for charm, the physical state of some aspects of the inn can be a point of divergence in guest experiences. For instance, some reviews mention that bathrooms can be small and dated, and beds, while sometimes described as amazing, can also be noted as creaky or noisy. This suggests a blend of renovated elements and areas that might still retain their historical, less modern feel. The inn strives for a well-kept appearance, and many guests appreciate the tasteful decoration of the rooms. The general atmosphere is often described as peaceful and comfortable.
The Grafton Inn offers a range of services designed to enhance a guest's stay, with hospitality often cited as a strong point. The staff, from the welcoming hostess to the wait staff and bartenders, frequently receive commendation for being amazing, lively, and attentive to guests' needs. This personal touch in service is a consistent highlight for those who have positive experiences at the inn, especially during events like weddings.
Dining is a prominent feature at The Grafton Inn, with on-site restaurants like Phelps Barn and the Tavern offering a unique and often praised culinary experience. The food is frequently described as delicious, unique, and consistently "on point," with chefs and cook staff commended for their skill and speed of service. Guests often enjoy a variety of food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, indicating a comprehensive dining program. Complimentary breakfast is also mentioned as a positive amenity, offering a convenient and satisfying start to the day.
Beyond dining, the inn provides various amenities. Guests can access free Wi-Fi throughout the property. For recreation, there are outdoor tennis courts and an outdoor pool (seasonal). The inn also features a games room with billiards and ping-pong, and a fitness center. Laundry facilities and massage services are also available. For business needs, there are meeting rooms. The inn generally operates with a 24-hour reception, although some severe guest experiences have highlighted a lack of on-site staff availability during off-hours, which is a critical point for potential guests to consider. This inconsistency in reception services, especially late at night, is a significant concern reported by a few visitors.
In-room amenities generally include air conditioning, and some rooms may offer fireplaces, coffee makers, microwaves, and refrigerators. Rooms typically have private bathrooms with a hair dryer and complimentary toiletries. The inn also offers a library and ticket services, contributing to a comfortable and engaging stay.
The Grafton Inn's historical character is its most distinctive feature. Operating since 1801, it is deeply rooted in the village's heritage and contributes to the preservation of Vermont's rural landscape, being owned by The Windham Foundation. This connection to local history and community, through its support of local businesses and organizations, adds a unique layer to the guest experience. The inn offers 42 individually decorated rooms and suites, providing a personalized touch to each stay.
The culinary offerings, particularly at Phelps Barn Pub and the 1801 Tavern, are significant draws, featuring farm-to-table pub fare and seasonal menus with locally-sourced ingredients. The Phelps Barn, originally a carriage house, offers a rustic dining experience, sometimes with live music, adding to the inn's charm. The availability of outdoor dining on a patio during warmer months and cozy fireplaces during cooler ones further enhances the ambiance.
The Grafton Inn is also pet-friendly, allowing pets on request, though additional charges may apply. This can be a valuable feature for travelers with animal companions. The inn also offers outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, and cycling, with trail passes and equipment rentals often available seasonally. The presence of an electric vehicle charging station is a modern convenience that appeals to a growing segment of travelers.
However, it is crucial to address a critical aspect of the inn's operation highlighted in recent negative reviews. Instances of significant difficulty with check-in processes, including issues with lockboxes and keys not working, combined with a complete lack of on-premises staff or a working emergency contact number, are severe concerns. While these appear to be isolated, yet impactful, incidents, they highlight a potential vulnerability in guest support, especially during non-standard hours. This contrasts sharply with the overwhelmingly positive descriptions of staff hospitality during other times and dining experiences. Guests should be aware that while the inn generally aims for a high level of service, there can be unforeseen challenges with operational aspects of check-in and support.
The Grafton Inn is often described as offering a great value, particularly when considering the quality of its dining and the charming, historic setting. While specific widespread promotional offers aren't always explicitly detailed for the "Hotels Near Of Me" search, the comprehensive experience, especially for events and dining, is a significant draw. The inn sometimes offers packages such as "Romance in Grafton" or "Mid-Week Winter Stay & Play," indicating a focus on curated experiences. It is part of the AAA inspection program, meeting certain industry standards, and is also a member of Select Registry and Distinctive Inns of New England, suggesting a commitment to quality in unique properties.
The average price can vary, with October often being the high season. Guests looking for potential savings might find lower prices during the off-peak months. The inn's appeal extends to those seeking a unique wedding venue or a charming retreat for a special occasion. For bookings and direct inquiries, the phone numbers are (508) 839-5931 and +1 508-839-5931. While many guests have had outstanding experiences, particularly with the food and staff during regular hours, it is prudent for potential guests to consider the reported inconsistencies in after-hours support and room access as part of their decision-making process.

May 11, 2025 · Thomas ForrestAn unbelievable experience. After 9 hours of driving I arrived to have much difficulty getting the lockbox to open to get the key. FINALLY, after many, many tries, I got the lockbox to open and retrieved my key - only for the KEY TO NOT OPEN THE ROOM DOOR!!!! I found a couple down the hall who tried to help me. The key simply WOULD NOT open the room door. AND- there was NO ONE ON THE PREMISES. AND- the “phone number” left taped to a door is “no longer in service”…. No one to call. No one to help me. The kind gentleman (another guest) went and got other keys from the lock box to see if the would open the door to my “assigned room”. Nope. So- as a last resort so I would not have to sleep in my car, he tried one of the keys marked for another room. That one opened that designated door. Never, in nearly 7 decades have I EVER experienced anything like this. And. I. Paid. For. This. Whatever you do, do not stay here.
May 17, 2025 · Patricia CaseyI was very surprised to learn that the bar was in the process of being gutted and the building was not staffed. It was definitely a little weird grabbing the key out of the lock box but the room was clean enough and came with a mini fridge. Thoughtful coffee station directly outside room. For the price over the holiday it was fine.
Nov 29, 2024 · Mary Kathryn LabenskiWas able to get ahold of someone pretty easily and issue a refund quickly without any issue. ********** DONT STAY!! I booked this hotel as a treat for my husband for Valentine's Day and now he's considering divorcing me just kidding but seriously do not stay here! Here are the facts in quick bullets: -Entrance to the building is unsecure there are no locks on the outside ( we retrieved our room key number seven in a lock box upon receiving instructions in a text message). - There's no front desk or receptionist or anyone watching The Doors. -The building looks like it's falling apart the floors and walls are all uneven and creek with every footstep. The floors are so uneven it's visible to your eye it honestly looks like a fun house walking through the hallway. - When we entered into our room ( no 7) it was FREEZING!! And it was below 50° in our room. My husband immediately tried to fix the thermostat to discover nothing helped. We have a picture showing that we tried setting it to 70 however I can't emphasize enough there is no heat. Because there was no heat we slept in multiple layers. I'm not exaggerating I actually put on my outfit I was planning to wear the next day and my husband slept with his hat on and three layers of pants. Had it not been late in the evening we would have left. My husband was not happy and also we both didn't feel safe we ended up propping the chair against the door because the door did not fit the frame and the locks felt unsecure. You can see the hallway in between the door and the frame. Please, please look at all my pictures and please also take into consideration this is the first time that I'm even writing a poor review for any place I've ever stayed. Sincerely, survivor of the Grafton Inn! PS- the rooms aren't clean there's dead bugs amongst the floor walls. 😑
Feb 18, 2025 · Mari RichardsThe building needs some love. The restaurant/bar was under construction. I think it has a lot of potential. The second floor smelled like mildew which our room wasn’t on but if you use the stairs you have pass it. The room was not very clean. There’s clumps of hair all over the bathroom. The trashcan in the bathroom still had trash left in it from the last guest. We didn’t sleep in the sheets we slept on top of them. To pay cash we had to slip the cash under a door and never interacted with the owner/manager. It was a bit expensive for what we got. There was a window in our room that looked into another room and the blind wouldn’t close all the way. The lamps turned on, but they were very fragile. There was no overhead lighting. The room was very spacious, which was nice. Would stay here again if things were fixed/updated. We were walking distance to the wedding we were attending at the golf course so it was convenient.
