I was pleasantly surprised to find a very nice room for a hotel that was rated two stars. It had been recently renovated and smelled fresh and clean. The room had the usual television, desk, coffee maker, and also included a small refrigerator (no freezer). The sink and mirror are outside of the bathroom which includes the toilet and a tub. It's very small so a very large person will have trouble navigating that space. It has a nice area for hanging clothes and storing luggage. The bed is fairly comfortable and had pillows of varying firmness. Unfortunately my room was right by an outside access door and between that and nearby guest room doors the door closings were very loud and startling. It didn't help that there was over an inch gap at the bottom of the door leading to the hallway. I am moderately deaf so I can't imagine what this will sound like to somebody with normal hearing. But I needed an inexpensive place to stay for a medical study nearby so this fit the bill. There is parking on site - a small lot in front of the lobby and a small parking garage on the other side of the building. I would stay here again.

The Inn on Arsenal Introduce

For those utilizing the "Hotels Near Of Me" search function and seeking an economical yet recently updated lodging option in the Watertown, Massachusetts area, The Inn on Arsenal presents itself as a viable choice. Located at 100 N Beacon St, Watertown, MA 02472, USA, this 2-star property aims to provide essential comforts for travelers, particularly those on a budget or needing convenient access to nearby Boston attractions and medical facilities. While experiences can vary, the hotel has undergone recent renovations to enhance its appeal.

Environment and Location

The Inn on Arsenal has seen recent renovations, with rooms described as having a "basic modern decor" and smelling "fresh and clean." This refresh is a significant plus, as it addresses common concerns about older hotel properties. Guests appreciate the absence of carpet in the rooms, a preference for many who prioritize cleanliness and hygiene. The overall environment strives for a straightforward, functional, and clean aesthetic, fitting its 2-star rating. The building itself is a multi-story motor inn.

The hotel's location is a strong selling point. Situated in Watertown, it offers a convenient base for exploring Boston and its surrounding areas without the higher prices often associated with downtown Boston hotels. It is well-connected to major points of interest: within a 5 to 7-minute drive, guests can reach Harvard University, Harvard Square, Boston College, and Boston University. Fenway Park is approximately a 10-minute drive away. Its proximity to medical facilities, such as St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, also makes it suitable for visitors with related needs. Public transportation via bus is easily accessible from the hotel, further enhancing its convenience for navigating the area. There is a wide variety of different cuisines nearby, offering ample dining options within walking distance or a short drive, including diners and coffee shops.

However, the environment can have some drawbacks. Some guests have noted issues with noise, particularly from outside access doors and adjacent guest rooms, which can be loud and startling. The presence of a gap at the bottom of room doors leading to hallways can exacerbate noise concerns. While rooms are generally described as clean, some specific instances of unsatisfactory bathroom cleanliness around toilet seat hinges, sinks, and floors have been reported, suggesting inconsistency in housekeeping attention to detail in these areas. The overall impression leans towards a functional stay rather than a luxurious one.

Services and Amenities

The Inn on Arsenal provides a range of essential services and amenities catering to the needs of its guests. A key feature mentioned by guests is the inclusion of a small refrigerator (without a freezer) and a coffee maker in the room. Each room also typically includes a flat-screen television with cable channels, a desk, and a safe. The sink and mirror are often located outside the main bathroom, which contains the toilet and a tub/shower combination. While the bathroom space can be very small, potentially challenging for larger individuals, it is functional.

Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and public areas, allowing guests to stay connected. The hotel also offers free self-parking, with a small lot in front of the lobby and a small parking garage on the other side of the building, which is a significant advantage in the Boston metropolitan area where parking can be costly and scarce. There is a microwave available in a common area for guest use. The property is entirely smoke-free, which ensures a fresh environment for non-smoking guests.

The hotel provides a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and a front-desk safe. Daily housekeeping is offered. While some guests have found the staff helpful, others have described them as neither rude nor friendly, suggesting a basic level of service that might lack warmth or strong incentive. The hotel website mentions a multi-function coffee machine in the lobby, offering various coffee beverages to guests. Cribs are available upon request, and children up to 17 years old can stay free of charge when using existing beds in their parents' or guardians' rooms, making it a family-friendly option for those traveling with children.

Features and Unique Aspects

One of the most appreciated features of The Inn on Arsenal is its affordability coupled with recent renovations. For travelers seeking a comfortable and clean place to stay without breaking the bank, particularly for extended medical visits or short business trips, it "fits the bill." The lack of carpet in the rooms is a deliberate choice that resonates positively with many guests. The beds are often described as "very comfortable" and come with "pillows of varying firmness," enhancing the quality of sleep. The presence of a Smart TV in the room has also been a pleasant surprise for some guests.

While the hotel offers fundamental amenities, some aspects are noted as needing improvement. For instance, the absence of a deadbolt or safety latch on room doors has been a concern for some guests regarding security. Instances of wallpaper appearing to be installed upside down are quirky observations, but generally don't impact the stay significantly. The hotel aims to be accessible, with features such as a wheelchair-accessible registration desk, grab bars in bathtubs, and well-lit paths to entrances.

The Inn on Arsenal caters well to the practical needs of travelers. Its location is particularly advantageous for visiting nearby educational institutions like Boston College and Harvard University, as well as accessing Boston's cultural attractions. The hotel also offers connecting/adjoining rooms, subject to availability, which can be useful for families or groups traveling together.

Promotional Information and Value

The Inn on Arsenal typically appeals to those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with a focus on value. Its competitive pricing, especially given its proximity to Boston, makes it an attractive option compared to more expensive downtown alternatives. The inclusion of free Wi-Fi and free self-parking significantly adds to the overall value proposition, as these are often additional costs in other urban hotels. While specific, ongoing "promotions" are not widely detailed, the hotel's inherent value lies in its balance of affordability, convenient location, and recently updated rooms.

The hotel is 5 miles from Fenway Park, 9 miles from Downtown Boston, and 11.5 miles from Logan International Airport, with public transportation easily accessible. This makes it a strategic choice for tourists, attendees of college graduations, Red Sox games, or the Boston Marathon, and for those participating in medical studies or business activities in the area. The "good location" and "good price" are frequently cited positives in guest reviews. The hotel states that its rooms were newly renovated in 2022 to meet the needs of the modern traveler, emphasizing its commitment to providing updated accommodations. For inquiries and bookings, guests can reach the hotel at (617) 926-2200 or +1 617-926-2200.

Rooms have been recently renovated with basic modern decor. I liked there was no carpet in the room because hotel carpets gross me out. The linens were clean. The bed was very comfortable. Smart tv was a pleasant surprise. The bad. No dead bolt or safety latch on the door. Bathroom was filthy. There was a strip of paper on the toilet to apparently indicate that it had been sanitized, so I know a housekeeper had been in the bathroom since the last guest. But it was filthy around the toilet seat hinges, the sink had not been wiped out, and the floor had long hairs and dirt on it. The desk staff wasn’t rude, but they weren’t friendly either. I can only assume they need to be paid more so they have incentive to care. I thought it was funny that the wallpaper appeared to be installed upside down. (To be fair, you can only tell when you look closely). Great location. Wide variety of different cuisines near by. Sheltered parking was a pleasant surprise.

We arrived much earlier than check in time, and they were very accommodating by allowing us in the room early. The room was spacious and very clean. IT had exactly what we were expecting. Our only issue/complaint is the lack of any housekeeping service, including replenishing towels, cloths, toilet paper and coffee/cups. We stayed 3 nights and every morning we asked for new towels to be put in our rooms and every night when coming back, hoping for a nice shower, we had no towels or cloths. We even left a note on the door one morning, asking for towels, coffee/cups and toilet paper to be replenished, and it was not done.

For the price I wasn’t expecting much but a place to sleep while I was in town. Room was comfortable but as other reviews stated, no dead bolt on door and made me nervous. Stayed four nights and not one day did they change sheets or provide me with new towels. I asked unfriendly young guy at front desk and he said did you want room cleaned?? I asked at least for more towels. He asked my room number but I never received. Shower water warm but no hot, shower bar was broken and floor was gritty like it was dirty when we arrived. A bit high for what was provided.

Family member had a medical procedure and needed a same night hotel. Tough to find an affordable hotel ($240) in Boston on a Friday night, but that's what the Inn at Arsenal provided. I'm typically a value-based hotel person, clean bed, shower, breakfast, that's what they're for, this place came up short. One of my worst hotel experiences. Room is updated and clean. Not a big deal, but TV didn't work, kept shutting off. True issues were I was woken up three times during the night due to incredibly loud exterior doors opening and closing and then couldn't take a shower in the morning because there was no hot water. I'd be fine with a lukewarm shower, but this was not even that. There were other value-based options out there within a 30-minute drive from the facility, but they were booked. If I had the night to do again, I'd spend the extra money for a decent sleep and shower.
