Located at 41 Mary Street, Newport, RI 02840, USA, this exquisitely restored Gilded Age mansion offers a captivating blend of historic grandeur and contemporary sophistication. This introduction will delve into the enchanting environment, comprehensive services, distinctive features, and alluring promotional information that make The Vanderbilt a must-visit destination in Newport, drawing from real customer reviews and available online details.

Environment: A Mansion Steeped in History and Character

The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection, occupies a magnificent 1909 mansion originally built by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt. This historic provenance is central to its unique charm, providing an environment that is "reminiscent of the Newport mansions" themselves, as noted by a delighted guest. The architectural integrity of the Gilded Age is meticulously preserved, yet it seamlessly integrates with modern elegance and comfort. The ambiance is one of sophisticated charm, where every detail, from handcrafted architectural elements to unique furnishings, contributes to a one-of-a-kind East Coast escape. The property has recently completed a "reimagination of 19 rooms and all public spaces," ensuring a fresh and stylish environment while honoring its historical roots.

The interior spaces exude character and a welcoming warmth. The Dining Room, for instance, is described as "dimly lit with a working fireplace," creating a "cozy" atmosphere perfect for pre-dinner drinks or a relaxing afternoon. The Conservatory, another dining area, is highlighted as a "pretty spot for breakfast," basking in natural light and offering views of the hotel's lush gardens. Beyond the dining areas, the hotel features inviting public spaces such as a library and a lounge with a fireplace, ideal for unwinding. The property also boasts a private Garden Terrace and a stunning rooftop terrace, offering sweeping views of the historic city and Newport Harbor – an ideal spot for enjoying sunsets and handcrafted cocktails.

The location on Mary Street, in the heart of downtown Newport, is another significant environmental advantage. Guests are just steps away from the vibrant nightlife of Brick Marketplace, Thames Street, Bowen's Wharf, and other key attractions. This central position allows for easy exploration of Newport's charming streets, boutique shops, and world-class dining, making it an ideal choice for those looking for "Hotels Near Of Me" that offer both luxury and accessibility to the city's highlights like Touro Synagogue and the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

The spa's unique hot stone massages using Atlantic Shoreline stones and signature body treatments are particularly noteworthy.
  • Unique Social Spaces: The hotel features a "secret bar tucked into a corner of the sumptuous Doris Duke-inspired parlor" and the reimagined Mezzanine with occasional tarot readings, contributing to a vibrant and "crackling" social scene. A library and billiard room also offer leisure options, and guests can enjoy amenities like a fireplace in the lobby and complimentary refreshments.
  • Thoughtful Touches: The hotel goes above and beyond with small details that enhance the guest experience. These include welcome drinks and amenities upon arrival, in-room coffee, house bicycles for exploring the town, and special considerations for families like children's menus and available cribs. Rooms feature thoughtful touches such as laptop-friendly workspaces and air conditioning, and some offer connecting rooms. Complimentary newspapers are available in the lobby.
  • Art and Design: The property is adorned with "specially-commissioned series of mysterious and moody old world still lifes," adding to its unique character and aesthetic appeal. The overall interior design is a blend of rich textures and deep colors, enhancing the luxurious feel. The hotel also boasts a valuable collection of American illustrative art, curated by Judy and Laurence Cutler of the National Museum of American Illustration.

What a lovely hotel, reminiscent of the Newport mansions. Unique and filled with character. I wish we could have stayed longer! The service was impeccable, friendly, and inviting. The Conservatory was such a pretty spot for breakfast. The Dining Room was dimly lit with a working fireplace. So cozy for mid afternoon or pre-dinner drinks! We had oysters and cocktails by the fire. The Servers and Bartenders were fantastic. So relaxing, and exactly what we were looking for.

Loved everything. The service was impeccable. Gorgeous, spacious rooms. The cocktails were perfect. Even the mocktails for my sister who was pregnant - perfect. They went above and beyond to make the experience special. The dark tones, the leather... a perfect winter getaway vibe. Haven't been in the summer - I'm sure extra lovely with the rooftop with a view of the harbor. Guess we'll just have to come back

Wonderful Stay at The Vanderbilt We had a fantastic stay at The Vanderbilt. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional, ensuring we felt welcome throughout our visit. The room was lovely, though a few minor maintenance details could be addressed. Dining at the restaurant was excellent, but a touch more attention to fine dining service standards would elevate the experience further. Overall, The Vanderbilt offers a luxurious and memorable stay in Newport, and we look forward to returning!

After an incredible Sailors Tea, I had to share we just fell in love with The Vanderbilt all over again! I sure hope the quality, prices and staffing don’t change under new ownership. We love escaping here for culinary experiences and more We absolutely love treating ourselves to lunch and breakfast here. We enjoy the bar and fireplace for drinks too! And, the sun room with tea or drinks is a special place to take people on occasion. The staff are all so sweet and full of warmth. My favorite are the door men and Bellhops who always greet us with a smile, or tease me into believing something silly. It’s a jovial and whimsical vibe the moment we walk up the steps. Going here makes an every day a special day. It is my self care go to! Alone, with my hubby or friends!
