Quick Review: Beautiful space with mixed service; food did not justify the price. My family and I recently visited the Yorktowne Hotel for a birthday breakfast. While the front desk was warm and welcoming, some staff members were noticeably unprofessional. We were directed to a private dining room with a partially obstructed view due to valet staff taking smoke breaks outside. The waitress was kind and attentive, informing us that the special was a brisket omelet. When a family member asked for clarification on the meat, the kitchen staff loudly berated the waitress through the door—a jarring and unprofessional interruption to our celebration. Several of us ordered the brisket omelet, expecting a quality dish given its feature as the special. Unfortunately, it was poorly prepared, resembling scrambled eggs rather than a proper omelet. Service also declined as the restaurant appeared understaffed, with only 2–3 servers managing over 30 guests. To add to the discomfort, some family members were met with attitude when asking to use the restroom. While the renovated space is visually appealing, the inconsistent service and subpar food do not reflect the hotel’s intended reputation. Regrettably, we will not be returning.

Guests are often captivated by the aesthetic appeal of the updated interiors, which blend historic grandeur with contemporary design. The hotel aims to create an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication. However, the urban environment of downtown York can also present challenges. As noted in a review, a private dining room experienced a "partially obstructed view due to valet staff taking smoke breaks outside," which can detract from the intended ambiance. Despite these minor external interferences, the interior design and overall visual presentation of the hotel are generally well-received, aiming to offer an elevated experience within a historic shell.

The "front desk was warm and welcoming," and the check-in process is described as "very easy," indicating a commitment to smooth arrivals. Attentive and friendly staff are appreciated, with one reviewer noting "the attending staff were friendly and welcoming." However, some guests have reported inconsistencies in service quality, with "some staff members noticeably unprofessional." Issues such as kitchen staff "loudly berating the waitress through the door" and "attitude when asking to use the restroom" highlight areas where service consistency could be improved. The hotel also faced challenges with staffing, with only "2–3 servers managing over 30 guests" during a breakfast service, which led to a decline in service. These points suggest that while the hotel strives for high service standards, execution can vary, impacting the overall guest experience.

The guest rooms are described as "beautifully renovated decorated" and feature "very soft bed," contributing to a comfortable night's sleep. However, a significant concern raised by guests pertains to the "AC units which pinged and pinged and were so noisy," severely impacting sleep quality. This suggests that despite the extensive renovations, certain functional aspects, like the air conditioning, may not have been updated to the same modern standard, leading to discomfort. As a Hilton property, guests would typically expect high-quality climate control. The hotel also boasts dining facilities, including a restaurant where breakfast is served. While some find the breakfast "delicious," others describe the food, such as the brisket omelet, as "poorly prepared, resembling scrambled eggs rather than a proper omelet," and the price as not justified by the quality. This indicates a potential inconsistency in culinary execution.

May 11, 2025 · Joshua W.I’m writing this review because I feel like this beautiful Historic hotel deserves it. I ate the morning breakfast after spending the night in a beautifully renovated decorated room with a very soft bed. It was delicious. The check-in process was very easy and the attending staff were friendly and welcoming. None of this makes any difference If you do not get a good night sleep and things are noisy. such great care, time and money was spent on every detail of renovating this beautiful hotel except for the renovation of AC units which pinged and pinged and were so noisy. My husband and I could not sleep. I should’ve brought my earplugs so shame on me but for a hotel that is on this level owned by Hilton I expect . Get rid of room units!!!!
May 06, 2025 · Nancy ArthurWe stayed one night for New Year’s Eve. It was a great time. The staff was super courteous and helpful. The access to the parking garage was easy, just across the oneway street. The room was spacious and clean. The architecture and atmosphere of the place were beautiful and well maintained. The bartenders were very attentive, conversational, and made excellent drinks. Breakfast was delicious and our server was incredibly nice and accommodating.
Jan 24, 2025 · Jeffrey WilsonWe had the most delightful weekend at the Historic Yorktown Hotel . The staff was all quite cordial and friendly, The property was impeccable with lots of beautiful architectural details and art. We loved sitting in the lobby, having a drink or cappuccino at night, listening to the piano player. and watching the digital fireplace.
Mar 21, 2025 · Dr. Donna GoldsteinHotel is in a great location. It is walkable to most downtown locations with a parking garage right across the street. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only issue was with the actual room. The handicap rooms were the farthest from the elevator and quite small to maneuver in a wheelchair.
