Tilton Inn Introduce

For those seeking a distinctive lodging experience in the "Hotels Near Of Me" category within New Hampshire's scenic Lakes Region, the Tilton Inn presents itself as a charming and historically rich option. Located at 255 Main St, Tilton, NH 03276, USA, this 19th-century inn offers a blend of classic New England hospitality and modern conveniences, making it an appealing choice for travelers looking for character and a personal touch.

Environment and Location

The Tilton Inn is ideally situated on Main Street in the heart of historic downtown Tilton, New Hampshire. This central location places guests within a vibrant, yet quaint, village setting, offering a unique local experience. The inn itself is housed within a charming 19th-century building, constructed in 1875, contributing to the area's historical ambiance. Its architecture and design evoke a sense of nostalgia and old-world charm, distinct from more contemporary hotel chains.

The immediate environment around the inn features local shops, other dining establishments, and a walkable village center. While not directly on a lake, its strategic location in Tilton means it's a short drive from key Lakes Region attractions. Tanger Outlets Tilton is just minutes away (approximately 4-minute drive), offering extensive shopping opportunities. Lake Winnisquam, one of New Hampshire's beautiful lakes, is also within easy reach (around a 9-minute drive), providing access to water activities and scenic views. For outdoor enthusiasts, Highland Mountain Bike Park (about a 12-minute drive) and various hiking/biking trails are also nearby. Downhill skiing and snowboarding options are available in the winter months at resorts like Gunstock Mountain Resort (approximately 16 miles away). This blend of historic town center and proximity to natural recreation makes the Tilton Inn's environment both convenient and appealing for diverse interests.

Services and Amenities

The Tilton Inn emphasizes a personalized and welcoming approach to hospitality, often highlighted in customer reviews. Guests frequently praise the owners, Allan and Kathy, and their staff for their exceptional warmth, smiles, and dedication to ensuring an excellent stay. This focus on individual guest experience and feeling "welcomed and valued" sets a strong tone for the service offered.

Key services and amenities at the Tilton Inn include:

  • On-Site Dining: A significant feature is Onions Pub and Restaurant, conveniently located on the first floor of the inn. This establishment serves American cuisine for lunch and dinner, with some sources suggesting a free breakfast may also be offered. It offers a cozy atmosphere for guests to enjoy meals and drinks without leaving the premises. While some reviews mentioned that the chicken parm "wasn't very good (to us)," the bangers and mash were noted as "yummy!" and the food generally receives positive comments.

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi and Parking: Guests can expect free Wi-Fi access in their rooms and public areas, along with complimentary self-parking, including options for RV/bus/trucks. This adds convenience for travelers.

  • Comfort and Convenience: The inn offers 11 air-conditioned accommodations, each individually furnished and decorated, featuring premium bedding for comfort and flat-screen TVs with cable channels. Private bathrooms are equipped with bathtubs or showers, rainfall showerheads, and designer toiletries. Daily housekeeping is also provided.

  • Common Areas: The inn provides inviting common areas such as a library, a fireplace in the lobby, and a terrace, offering spaces for guests to relax and socialize. A bar/lounge is also available for drinks.

  • Pet-Friendly: The Tilton Inn is a pet-friendly establishment, allowing dogs (up to 1 total pet) upon request for an additional charge of $100 per accommodation, per night, plus a one-time cleaning fee of $100 and a deposit of $100 per day. Service animals are exempt from fees. This is a valuable service for travelers with animal companions.

  • Guest Services: The inn offers luggage storage, tour/ticket assistance, and wedding services.

While the inn focuses on a charming, intimate experience, it's worth noting that it does not feature a swimming pool, which might be a consideration for some guests. Check-in typically starts at 2 PM and ends at 8 PM. Guests must contact the property in advance (at least 24 hours before arrival) for check-in instructions if arriving outside these hours, as the front desk has limited hours (7 AM - 8 PM) and the property is locked nightly from 10 PM to 6 AM. This indicates a more personalized, less round-the-clock service model than larger hotels.

Features and Accommodations

The Tilton Inn offers a selection of 11 individually decorated guest rooms, each with its own unique theme and character, contributing to the inn's charming and quaint atmosphere. Room types include Queen, King, Double, and Standard Double or Twin Rooms, providing options for various traveler needs. Each room is named after people affiliated with the Tilton area, adding to the local charm. Key features of the accommodations and the property include:

  • Unique Room Decor: Each room is individually furnished and decorated, creating a distinct and memorable stay. This is a significant draw for guests seeking a departure from standard, chain hotel aesthetics. Some rooms have fireplaces, and others may feature a "nice side section for sitting."

  • Comfortable Bedding: Reviews consistently highlight the comfort of the beds, with one guest stating, "Bed was amazingly comfy." Premium bedding is a standard offering.

  • On-Site Restaurant & Pub: The presence of Onions Pub and Restaurant downstairs offers a convenient dining and social hub for guests. It's often praised for its food and ambiance, providing a pleasant evening option.

  • Historic Charm: The inn, dating back to 1875, retains many features of that era. This historic character is a key element of its appeal, offering a glimpse into New England's past. Some areas include a terrace and a charming exterior. There are 5 stairs to reach the property entrance, and upper floors are accessible by stairs only, as there is no elevator.

  • "Haunted" History: Intriguingly, some reviews mention the inn's reputation for being haunted, with guests reporting "encounters with a male spirit." Specifically, the inn is believed to be home to the spirit of a 12-year-old girl named Laura, who is said to have perished in one of the fires that previously ravaged the building. For those interested in paranormal experiences, this adds a unique and perhaps thrilling dimension to their stay.

  • Personalized Service: The strong emphasis on friendly and welcoming staff, particularly the owners Allan and Kathy, is a recurring theme in positive reviews. This personal interaction makes guests "feel like family" and "valued."

Promotional Information and Considerations

The Tilton Inn, as a local "Hotels Near Of Me" option, promotes itself through its unique historic charm, personalized hospitality, and convenient location. Their phone numbers, (603) 286-7774 and +1 603-286-7774, serve as direct contact points for reservations and inquiries. Promotional efforts would likely highlight the inn's cozy atmosphere, its on-site restaurant, and its proximity to Lakes Region attractions like Tanger Outlets, Lake Winnisquam, and various outdoor activity areas such as hiking, biking, fishing, and skiing. The inn also offers wedding services, making it a potential venue for special occasions. They often highlight the convenience of being able to stay in a comfortable inn while enjoying meals at the on-site restaurant.

While the overall sentiment from recent customer reviews is overwhelmingly positive, emphasizing the "excellent" hospitality, cleanliness, and the welcoming nature of the staff, it's important for prospective guests to be aware of certain considerations. Some older reviews indicated that rooms might be "small" for some tastes. The lack of an elevator means upper floors are accessible by stairs only, which could be a factor for guests with mobility concerns. Additionally, some specific food items at Onions Pub and Restaurant might not appeal to everyone, as one review pointed out with the chicken parm, although the bangers and mash were enjoyed. The presence of smokers on a "back deck" impacting the use of space for non-smoking guests is another practical consideration mentioned in a review. Some guests have also noted the lack of a phone or clock in the room, or that the hot and cold water in the bathroom might be reversed in some older sections. Despite these minor points, the consistent praise for the inn's character, cleanliness, friendly staff, and the comfortable beds, along with its unique historical and perhaps paranormal appeal, make it a highly recommended choice for those seeking a unique and welcoming stay in Tilton.

Stayed in the Tilton Room. Bed was amazingly comfy and we had 2 encounters with a male spirit. We had dinner at the Onion. The chicken parm wasn't very good (to us), the bangers and mash were yummy!

I enjoyed a pleasant 3 night stay at the Tilton Inn while attending a camp at Highland Mountain Bike Park. I was greeted by Kathy would made me feel right at home. The Inn is quaint. The room was nicer than I had anticipated; bright and charming. The bed was sufficiently comfortable. Renovations are needed in a few areas, which apparently are under way. There was no easily accessible plug next to the night stand for me to plug my items in. The bathroom was clean but could use some updating. I really enjoyed relaxing on a rocker on the large balcony that overlooks the Main Street in town and found myself up there an hour or two every evening. All in all in was a delightful stay and with a few updates this place would be a true gem.

What a lovely stay in the quaint town of Tilton. Alan and Kathy are ever the gracious hosts, making you feel so welcome. The room was perfect, bed comfortable and Henry Ford room was very spacious. We had our daughter stay on the air mattress and she slept so well. They made it very comfortable for her. The Onion Pub is another level of amazing food. Everything is fresh and done in house, DELICIOUS! I had the special; Seared scallop pasta. The scallops were huge and cooked to perfection. Absolutely fantastic time and highly recommend!

We were there for lunch and the meal was delicious. The owners made us feel at home in the very friendly atmosphere. I am wheelchair bound so parking right out front was great. Overall a great experience. BTW deserts are to die for.
