I do know some unfortunate souls that do live here. What these other negative reviews say are 100% accurate. I can't blame them per say because Social Services is willing to pay so extravagantly much for the disenfranchised to be here. I live in a very nice neighborhood in a 2 story, finished basement, 4 bedrooms, garage, huge backyard and screened in porch on a dead end street and it costs less to maintain and pay all bills in my house than Social Services pays these people to house 2 adults and 1 child in a room the size of the smallest bedroom on my home. I gave service 4 stars because I talk to the individuals that work there and they do seem very nice. I can't blame them for accepting these ridiculous pay outs that I and we the tax payer have to pay for. This motel is not the problem, Social Services is the problem. To rent an entire house in my rather exquisite neighborhood costs less than Social Services pays this motel for 3 people to exist in one medium sized room. This makes me sick!

Vanderbilt Motel Introduce

For individuals searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Hyde Park, NY, the Vanderbilt Motel, located at 2 Linden Ln, Hyde Park, NY 12538, USA, is a lodging option that may appear in search results. The motel can be reached by phone at (845) 229-7100 or +1 845-229-7100. It is crucial to provide an objective and detailed introduction to this establishment, considering its publicly available information and candid customer reviews, which shed light on its primary function and current state. This introduction will cover its environment, services, features, and relevant insights from guest experiences, as accurately as possible based on the provided information.

Environment and Location:

The Vanderbilt Motel is situated on Linden Lane in Hyde Park, a town renowned for its historical significance, including the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. While the town itself is generally picturesque and attracts tourists interested in American history, the specific environment surrounding the Vanderbilt Motel, as indicated by reviews, appears to be different from that of a typical tourist-oriented hotel. The location on Linden Lane suggests a more residential or less trafficked area compared to main roads. However, the reviews primarily focus on the internal conditions and the motel's role in housing individuals through social services rather than its immediate external surroundings or proximity to tourist attractions.

The motel's physical environment, as critically assessed by guests, is described in terms that suggest a decline in maintenance and cleanliness. Descriptions such as "Disgusting" and mentions of "Cockroaches and other nasty things" paint a picture of an environment that is not up to typical hospitality standards. This indicates that while the motel is physically present in Hyde Park, its internal environment may not align with the expectations of leisure or business travelers seeking comfortable, clean, and well-maintained accommodations.

Services and Amenities:

Given the nature of the reviews, the services and amenities at Vanderbilt Motel appear to cater primarily to its role in providing temporary housing through social service programs, rather than offering a full suite of services expected from a conventional motel. While specific amenities are not detailed in the provided reviews, a motel typically offers basic lodging, which would include:

  • Guest Rooms: The reviews indicate that rooms are used to house "2 adults and 1 child" and are described as "a room the size of the smallest bedroom on my home" or "one medium sized room." This suggests that rooms are compact and intended for basic shelter. The presence of a bed and basic furnishings would be standard, although their condition is called into question by the negative cleanliness reviews.

  • Staff Interaction: Interestingly, one reviewer, despite severe criticism of the motel's condition and its financial model, acknowledges the staff, stating, "I gave service 4 stars because I talk to the individuals that work there and they do seem very nice." This suggests that while the physical infrastructure may be lacking, the human element of staff interaction remains polite and potentially helpful to its residents.

  • Basic Utilities: Standard motel services like electricity, heating, and running water would be expected. However, the overall condition suggests that these might be functional but not necessarily accompanied by a well-maintained or clean environment.

It is highly unlikely that this motel offers amenities such as on-site dining, a fitness center, business facilities, or recreational areas that are common in more tourist-focused "Hotels Near Of Me" establishments. Its operational model seems to prioritize housing over traditional guest services.

Features and Distinguishing Aspects:

The most distinguishing feature of the Vanderbilt Motel, as revealed by the customer reviews, is its primary function as a facility for social services housing. This significantly differentiates it from motels and hotels that cater to typical tourists or business travelers. Key features include:

  • Social Services Accommodation: The motel reportedly houses individuals and families referred and paid for by Social Services. This is a crucial distinction, as it shapes the motel's operational priorities, pricing structures, and clientele. The reviews strongly imply that the generous payments from Social Services may be a primary driver for the motel's operation, rather than attracting and retaining general public clientele through competitive pricing and quality service.

  • Budget-Oriented, Long-Term Stay Potential: While not explicitly stated as a feature, the arrangement with social services implies that rooms are often used for extended periods, functioning more as temporary residences than short-term hotel stays. This positions it differently from typical tourist accommodations.

  • Condition Concerns: A prominent feature, albeit a negative one, is the reported poor condition of the rooms, including "cockroaches and other nasty things." This is a significant factor for anyone considering this motel for a stay, irrespective of the purpose.

  • Staff Demeanor: Despite the severe criticisms of the property's condition, the perceived "niceness" of the staff is noted, suggesting a level of human decency and professionalism even within challenging operational circumstances.

The motel's role in the community, providing shelter for the disenfranchised, is a notable aspect. However, the reviews highlight concerns about the value for money, not for the residents, but for the taxpayers funding these arrangements, as the cost for a single room is reportedly higher than renting an entire house in a "very nice neighborhood."

Promotional Information and Guest Experiences:

Given its described primary function, the Vanderbilt Motel is unlikely to engage in extensive public promotional campaigns targeting leisure travelers for the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in the traditional sense. Its "promotional" activity seems to stem from its relationship with local social services. Booking through conventional travel sites for a standard tourist stay might not be its main channel, and direct inquiries would be necessary for availability.

The provided customer reviews offer very direct and critical insights into guest experiences. The first reviewer, identifying as someone who knows "unfortunate souls that do live here," validates the negative sentiment found elsewhere. This review explicitly states that "What these other negative reviews say are 100% accurate." The core of this feedback revolves around the perceived exorbitant cost paid by Social Services for what is described as a very small, basic room, contrasting it sharply with the cost of renting an entire house in a much nicer area. This reviewer expresses strong moral objections to the financial model, calling it "sick" and pointing blame towards "Social Services" rather than the motel staff, who are described as "very nice" for "accepting these ridiculous pay outs."

The second review is stark and brief: "Disgusting. Cockroaches and other nasty things. Don't go here it's terrible." This directly confirms severe issues with cleanliness and pest control, reinforcing the impression that the motel's physical condition is a significant deterrent for any guest, regardless of their purpose of stay.

Collectively, these reviews suggest that while the Vanderbilt Motel provides housing, its environment is severely compromised by cleanliness and maintenance issues. For local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," it is critical to understand that this motel functions primarily as temporary housing for vulnerable populations under social service programs, and its conditions, as reported by customers, are far from what one would expect from a standard hotel or motel stay. Therefore, for most travelers seeking comfortable and clean accommodation in Hyde Park, the Vanderbilt Motel would likely not be a suitable option based on the objective information available from these customer experiences.

This is a homeless shelter that taxpayers pay $8000 a month (through Social Services) and it should be shut down immediately. The wiring is bad, there's bedbugs, broken toilets, broken refrigerators, broken microwaves, broken AC, no hot water, no wifi. It's filthy and no children should be there. Dutchess County Social Services pay this dump $8000 a month but won't give these women enough money for an apartment far less cheaper! Some women have more than one child and they get about $700 a month for housing. Where will you find an apartment for 3, 4, 5 people for $7, $8, even $900 a month? It can't be done! Taxpayers need to know where their money is going! And across the street the Hyde Park Inn is a shelter too and they get upwards of $2000 a week! These places are not fit for humans.

Honestly considered sleeping in my car. Dirty, run down. Leaky shower, drain wouldn’t stay open, toilet took 30 minutes to fill. Credit card machine “broken” same as 2 years ago so had to pay cash. Not willing to give us a receipt. Just nasty.
