This hotel has a cool decor vibe. Almost a speak easy feel. The staff was friendly and everything was very clean. This location is a bit of a stretch if you want to walk anywhere. Also felt like it is a bit on the cautionary edge of safety for some. It kinda sits out on its own without much else going on neat it. The alley to the parking area had lights on the wall but they weren't working. I hope the areas around this hotel will develop in the future and make its location feel more a part of the city. Enjoyed the brief stay.
For those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Louisville, Kentucky, Vu Guesthouse presents itself as a distinctive and intriguing option. Located at 822 S Floyd St, Louisville, KY 40203, USA, with contact numbers (502) 785-0815 and +1 502-785-0815, this boutique hotel offers a unique departure from conventional accommodations, aiming for a memorable and stylized stay.
Vu Guesthouse is celebrated for its "cool decor vibe," often described as having an "industrial-chic" or "speakeasy feel." This aesthetic is a major draw for guests looking for a hotel with character and a sense of individuality. The property embraces a moody and romantic atmosphere with dark hues, dramatic bed heads, and heavy drapes, creating an intimate setting that is appealing to many travelers.
Situated in the Old Louisville district, Vu Guesthouse's location is a point of frequent discussion among guests. While it's approximately a mile from downtown Louisville and offers relatively easy access to key attractions like Fourth Street Live! (about 1.5 miles away), the Kentucky International Convention Center (also 1.5 miles), and the KFC Yum! Center, its immediate surroundings are noted by some to be "a bit of a stretch if you want to walk anywhere." Some reviews indicate that the area around the hotel "sits out on its own without much else going on near it," and some guests have expressed minor "cautionary" feelings regarding safety, particularly concerning the alley to the parking area where lights were noted to be non-functional by one past visitor. It is important to note that public information from September 2024 indicates that the former Vu Hotel building is in the process of being converted into a family emergency shelter as part of the Community Care Campus, a larger initiative to address homelessness in Louisville. While the provided address aligns with the original hotel, potential guests should verify its current operational status for short-term stays, as its long-term use is shifting towards community services. Despite these observations regarding the surrounding area, the hotel itself, when operational, is designed to be a comfortable and stylish retreat.
The hotel's position, when it was fully operational as a guesthouse, made it a reasonable base for accessing various parts of Louisville by car or ride-sharing services. Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, is a short 10-minute drive away, and the Louisville International Airport is conveniently located just 5 miles from the property. While the surrounding neighborhood might not be bustling with immediate dining or entertainment options right outside the door, the hotel's distinctive interior aimed to provide a destination within itself.
When operating as a guesthouse, Vu Guesthouse offered a range of services designed to ensure a comfortable stay, though some traditional hotel amenities may be absent or managed differently. The staff consistently received high praise for their friendliness, helpfulness, and willingness to assist guests with anything they needed. This positive customer service was a recurring theme in reviews, contributing significantly to guest satisfaction.
Key amenities at Vu Guesthouse, as noted by past guests, included:
It is important to note certain omissions based on past guest feedback: rooms generally did not include mini-fridges or microwaves, and there were no self-service ice machines; ice had to be obtained from the front desk. The hotel did not offer an on-site restaurant for full meals, nor did it provide breakfast, beyond possibly tea and coffee. Guests with light sleep might have considered requesting rooms away from the elevator, as noise from foot traffic was mentioned in reviews, and loud music from above on one occasion was reported.
The primary unique selling point of Vu Guesthouse, during its operation as a boutique hotel, was its distinct aesthetic and boutique character. Unlike chain hotels, Vu Guesthouse offered a truly individualized experience, making it appealing to travelers seeking more than just a place to sleep. The "cool decor vibe" and "speakeasy feel" contributed to an ambiance that guests found memorable and enjoyable. It was described as an "adult-only stay, ideal for city exploring," though policies regarding children should always be confirmed directly with any hotel.
The hotel's design and attention to detail in its common areas, such as the lobby with its giant crystal chandelier and interesting wall art, created a visually engaging environment. The staff's dedication to making guests feel welcome and their friendly demeanor significantly enhanced the overall experience, often leaving a lasting positive impression despite any minor inconveniences.
While specific promotional offers can vary, Vu Guesthouse, in its previous capacity, positioned itself as a boutique hotel offering a unique experience. Pricing typically fluctuated based on demand and booking platforms. One guest review highlighted a situation where they received a notification for a significantly lower price after booking, suggesting that checking various booking channels or direct contact with the hotel for the best rates might have been beneficial. Generally, rates typically ranged from around $159 to $250 per night, depending on the room type and time of year.
The value of staying at Vu Guesthouse often came from its distinctive atmosphere and the personalized service, rather than extensive in-room amenities like mini-fridges or microwaves. For travelers who prioritized aesthetic appeal, a social lobby bar, cleanliness, and friendly staff over a full suite of in-room conveniences or immediate walkable neighborhood amenities, Vu Guesthouse offered a compelling and different type of stay in Louisville. Its close proximity by car to major Louisville attractions like Churchill Downs and downtown entertainment ensured that while the immediate vicinity might have been quieter, the city's highlights were easily accessible.
It is crucial for any potential visitor to be aware of the recent developments regarding the property. As of September 2024, the former Vu Hotel building is slated for conversion into a family emergency shelter as part of the Community Care Campus, a significant initiative by the city of Louisville to address homelessness. This transition suggests that the property's primary function may no longer be that of a public guesthouse for transient stays. Therefore, anyone looking for accommodation at this address should confirm the current operational status of the property directly via the provided phone numbers before making any plans.

Oct 20, 2022 · Robert SmiddyThe Hotel is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. The check in was a little rough because there was one lady that had to work the bar and the front desk and it made it difficult for her to be attentive and any customer. The heat and a/c unit is not very user friendly. No mini-fridge or micro wave in the room and you have to get your ice from the front desk because they do not have ice machines for you to use. Our room was directly across from elevator and the people coming in going were very loud and the people staying above use sounded like they were running all night long. Had to call from desk due to loud music at 1am. While we were there we received a notification from booking.com that we could stay at the hotel for $100 less than what we paid for our room. So no I feel like I was overcharged at it costing $250 for us to stay one night. We had birds nesting in our windows and they kept pecking on the glass. No breakfast. Only tea and coffee. The location is also not so good. It seemed to be a rough part of town. I will compliment the hotel on the decorations and the cleanliness. The staff does seem to also want to help you with anything you need.
Sep 27, 2021 · Penny BerryAmazing spot! If you don't understand what a boutique hotel is don't illustrate that in a poor rating. No, there is no fridge, there is no microwave... don't bring leftovers from your Applebee's dinner. Come here for the amazing vision, top quality furnishings, staff, and ambiance. The location is great! It's Louisville, nothing is far. The staff was friendly and attentive. Rooms are gorgeous and impeccably clean. Can't say enough great things.
May 17, 2022 · Tracy CaldwellMy stay at this hotel was so relaxing and enjoyable. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. I even had a few drinks at the bar in the lobby. The bartender was super cool and professional. I loved everything about my stay and will definitely be back. Thank you!!
Mar 19, 2020 · Tracey BowenRoom was very nice but small. Definitely much different than we were expecting. Lacked common amenities such as a coffee maker and mini fridge. Room was very dim. Overall much different than any other hotel experience in Louisville but not bad. Attached to a gay men's brothel in a not so nice part of town. Room was nice and the shower was amazing which made up for some of the akwardness.
