We loved it. The on-site parking is really convenient, and you can stay parked in the garage until 4 on the day you check out, so you can go to a museum or use the pool. Staff was really friendly. However, no amenities after 11, not even a vending machine. If you want something to eat after 11, you have to hoof it.

Let's explore what makes the Washington Plaza Hotel a recommended destination in the District.

Location and Accessibility

The Washington Plaza Hotel boasts a prime address at 10 Thomas Cir NW, Washington, DC 20005, USA. For those of us familiar with the District of Columbia, this location immediately signifies incredible centrality and convenience. Thomas Circle is a key intersection in downtown D.C., offering excellent access to multiple facets of the city.

One of the most praised aspects of its location is its walkability to major D.C. attractions. Guests consistently note that the hotel is "central to monuments and museums," with many within a "20 minutes walk." This means iconic landmarks like the White House, the various Smithsonian museums on the National Mall, and the vibrant Embassy Row are all comfortably accessible on foot, allowing for an immersive experience of our nation's capital without relying on transportation. Some rooms even offer a "unique and unexpected view of the Embassy of Hungary," adding a special touch to the stay.

Beyond walking, the Washington Plaza Hotel offers fantastic accessibility via public transportation. It's within a short walking distance to several Metro stations, including McPherson Square (Orange, Silver, Blue Lines) and Farragut North (Red Line). These connections provide quick and efficient routes to virtually any part of D.C., from Capitol Hill to Georgetown, making it simple for both locals and visitors to navigate the city. For those traveling by car, the hotel provides on-site parking in an underground garage. While the cost is "a little steep at $43 per night," it's generally consistent with typical D.C. hotel rates, and the significant perk of being able to "keep the car in the lot until 6pm after checking out" (or even 4 PM based on another review) is incredibly convenient for enjoying a full last day in the city without worrying about parking. There are also "stores and restaurants nearby," ensuring that necessities and dining options are always within easy reach. This combination of prime location, walkability, and convenient parking makes Washington Plaza Hotel an exceptionally well-situated choice for exploring the District.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For us residents of the District of Columbia, the Washington Plaza Hotel stands out as a highly suitable and practical choice for a variety of needs, whether it's a convenient staycation, hosting visiting family and friends, or a comfortable base for local business engagements. Its appeal to locals is rooted in a unique combination of prime location, thoughtful amenities, and excellent service.

Firstly, the central location at Thomas Circle NW is an undeniable asset. As locals, we understand that being "central to monuments and museums" with many within a "20 minutes walk" is incredibly valuable. This means less time commuting and more time enjoying the city's rich history and cultural offerings, whether you're exploring the National Mall or visiting the diverse embassies along Embassy Row. The ease of access to nearby Metro stations further enhances its convenience, allowing for seamless travel throughout D.C. without the hassle of navigating traffic or expensive taxis.

Secondly, the on-site parking with extended post-checkout privileges is a massive perk in D.C., where parking can be both scarce and costly. The ability to leave your car in the garage until 4 PM or 6 PM on your checkout day provides incredible flexibility, allowing you to maximize your last day by visiting a museum or enjoying the "outdoor pool" without worrying about parking fees or retrieving your vehicle immediately. This thoughtful amenity truly caters to the practical needs of locals and their guests.

Furthermore, the consistently praised "friendly" and "professional" staff contribute significantly to a welcoming atmosphere. From the moment of arrival, guests are greeted with "smiling faces" and helpful service, creating a comfortable and pleasant environment. While the lack of late-night amenities (after 11 PM) might be a minor consideration for some, the overall positive experience of dining ("Dinner was great tasting") and the availability of amenities like the "outdoor pool" and a 24-hour fitness center during standard hours more than compensate. The "clean and organized" appearance of the entire hotel also adds to a sense of comfort and reliability. For any District resident seeking a well-located, service-oriented, and amenity-rich hotel that understands the nuances of D.C. travel, the Washington Plaza Hotel offers a compelling and highly recommended option.

I had a one night stay but wished it was more. From arrival, you are welcomed with smiling faces and door held. Upon return, you are greeted and welcomed back. At the check in counter, the agents are pleasant and helpful. John helped me at first and provided great information. The hotel is central to monuments and museums (20 minutes walk). There are stores and restaurants nearby. Dinner was great tasting and very professional. The pricing was moderate. I swear, it seemed like everyone had a smile on their face the entire time. Parking is a little steep at $50 per night however, they allow you to keep the car in the lot until 6pm after checking out. The entire hotel appeared clean and organized. The outdoor pool was not open yet but this was clearly stated before booking. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. Please continue with the great customer service. I hope to return soon.

A generally nice place, nice rooms, within walking distance of Capitol area. The restaurant is good and reasonably priced. The staff are fantastic; in particular I'd like to give a shout-out to Mr Paul and Ms Nyesha in the restaurant, the lady tending bar on the night of 13 June, and Mr Ali the doorman, all of whom provided excellent and courteous service.

My room was gross. They told me they upgraded my room with a balcony, however, the room was extremely outdated and humid. The room next to me reeked of marijuana and was coming into my room, so I had to keep the air off (during police week). They had to eventually change my room, which they did. The room was bigger but still outdated. The air conditioner had a loud sound like an air compressor and was again, extremely humid and uncomfortable, and my room especially had mouse traps. For the price of this place, breakfast was also not included. The bed was also uncomfortable. It is not a quiet hotel at all. If you have a small child, they will not rest. You will hear every single conversation, and siren, etc.

I stayed for 4 nights. First of all, the staff is very kind and friendly. Even if you have a question, they will respond without making a bad face. Supermarkets and drugstores are nearby, so it's convenient. Although it is close to the National Mall, it is quiet because it is a little far away. There are also heated swimming pools, restaurants, and bars, and there are plenty of facilities. However, please note that there are no toothbrushes and slippers! Thank you very much, everyone! I want to stay again next time!
