For those exploring the scenic Thousand Islands region of New York and searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with a distinct historical charm, the Wellesley Hotel & Restaurant offers a truly unique experience. Located at 42809 St Lawrence Ave, Thousand Island Park, NY 13692, USA, and accessible by phone at (315) 482-3698 or +1 315-482-3698, this property is more than just a hotel; it's a piece of history contributing to the Thousand Island Park Historic District as the last remaining hotel in the park, representing its past as a quintessential summer resort.

Environment: A Step Back in Time on Wellesley Island

The Wellesley Hotel & Restaurant, built in 1903, immerses guests in a charming Victorian setting. It is situated in the center of Thousand Island Park, a private, historic resort community on Wellesley Island. This unique environment is characterized by its car-free policy, encouraging guests to explore the area on foot, by bike, or via golf cart, adding to its tranquil and nostalgic ambiance. The hotel boasts stunning views of the St. Lawrence River, as well as beautifully landscaped gardens and the iconic Guzzle building, depending on the room's location. Guests can enjoy relaxing on the upper porch overlooking the central park or the lower porch overlooking the river, perhaps with a book or a cocktail, truly reminiscent of an era gone by. The interior features quaint Victorian decor and comfortable vintage-style guest rooms, maintaining their original charm. The hotel operates seasonally, typically from late spring/early summer to Labor Day, aligning with the Thousand Islands' peak tourist season. This specific location offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle, providing a sense of historical serenity.

Services: Acclaimed Dining and Vintage Hospitality

The core of the Wellesley Hotel & Restaurant's offerings lies in its celebrated dining experience, which has garnered considerable praise from guests. The on-site restaurant and pub serve freshly prepared meals, and it's known for its fine dining, with a focus on world-class cuisine that reflects an honest interpretation of classics, utilizing local farm products and the freshest available ingredients. Reviews frequently highlight the exceptional quality of the food and the attentive, friendly service from staff, with individuals like "Rockstar Tammy" being specifically commended. The restaurant typically serves dinner nightly in the dining room or on the lower porch. For breakfast, guests can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast, and some reviews mention "endless mimosas" during breakfast, indicating a delightful start to the day. While traditional room service might not be as extensive as in larger, modern hotels, the focus is on the communal dining experience.

As a historic building, guests should note some traditional features. For instance, the rooms are located on the second floor, and there is no elevator in the historic building. The hotel does not have air conditioning or heating, but it provides fans for guests, and the refreshing river breeze is often a natural cooling system. Extra blankets are available upon request. Importantly, there are no televisions in the rooms, encouraging guests to disconnect and immerse themselves in the peaceful surroundings. Check-in and check-out times are typically from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and 11:00 AM respectively, with late check-in subject to availability and prior arrangements. The hotel contributes to the community's amenities, which include a marina, swimming beach, ball fields, and a library, all accessible by foot, bike, or golf cart.

Features: Period Charm and River Views

The Wellesley Hotel & Restaurant offers a modest number of guest rooms, each with a private restroom and maintained as originally built, showcasing charming Victorian decorations. While the exact number of rooms is not widely specified, it is understood to be a more intimate setting. The emphasis is on comfort and a vintage aesthetic rather than modern amenities. Guest rooms offer various views, including open green spaces leading to the river, beautifully landscaped gardens, and glimpses of the iconic Guzzle building. The hotel's communal areas, such as the downstairs parlor, offer comfortable seating and an enchanting bar, ideal for a game of chess or a pre-dinner cocktail. The absence of in-room air conditioning, heating, and televisions is a deliberate feature, aiming to preserve the historical ambiance and encourage guests to enjoy the natural environment and social aspects of their stay. This commitment to its historic roots provides a unique appeal for travelers seeking a different kind of accommodation experience. Each room is designed to offer a comfortable and simple respite from the 21st century, making it an architectural treasure.

Second straight year staying on the island but first time at hotel, will have to go back next year. Breakfast was really good and endless mimosas. Thick burger like places used to do

A few friends and I went on a week night for dinner and drinks. The building is beautiful and the porch was a perfect spot to sit and have dinner. I was underwhelmed by the menu selection. While there was enough variety, I didn't think that the options (sandwiches, salads, burgers, etc.) matched the ambience of the hotel. The wine menu was limited and none of the white wine that we ordered came chilled. The food itself was cooked well and tasted good.

We went to the hotel for dinner for our anniversary. The server was very nice. The food was terrible. I ordered linguine and clam sauce. The linguine was pasty and the clams were obviously from a can. When we ordered drinks, I asked for a Vodka martini. They didn’t have any vodka. I then asked for a seven and seven and they didn’t have the ingredients to make that either. Won’t go back.

Absolutely divine. A bunch of friends visiting from Toronto, went in, sat on the porch and indulged dinner: Oysters: fresh and tasty Clams appetisers: zesty, tasty, perfectly cooked Russian Eggs: inventive, with the best pickled cucumbers Smoked Walleye: unique. Homemade spaghetti with your choice of garnish: perfect. Wine pairing: judicious. Only reservation I had is where they seem to store their wines: red wine was served way too warm, like 75°F Pistachio cake was quirky, and tasty. Avoid the baked Alaska, a major miss. Other than that, this place totally rules ! Service is great and you will meet some locals there.
