The owner is insane. My dog sniffed his building, and this guy busted through the door like the Kool-Aid man and started screaming at me, threatening to follow me home. I was terrified he was going to attack me on the street. Right after this, he put up a sign outside that looked like a ransom note demanding that everyone "REspEcT MY tEnAnTS." His tenants and repairmen throw broken glass into the tiny amount of grass we have in this neighborhood. I can only assume he hates dogs so much he wants them to cut their feet on the glass.

Academy Hotel Introduce

When searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Jersey City, New Jersey, the Academy Hotel at 168 Academy St, Jersey City, NJ 07306, USA, with phone numbers (201) 656-7835 and +1 201-656-7835, may appear in search results. However, based on available online information and direct customer reviews, it is crucial for prospective guests to approach this establishment with a high degree of caution and carefully manage their expectations. The following introduction provides an objective overview of the hotel's environment, services, features, and any available promotional information, largely shaped by candid customer feedback.

Environment and Location

The Academy Hotel is located in Jersey City, a vibrant and densely populated city in New Jersey, directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Its specific address on Academy Street places it in the Journal Square area. Journal Square is a major transportation hub, known for its diverse community, historic architecture, and convenient access to the PATH train system, which provides direct connections to downtown and midtown Manhattan, as well as Newark. This proximity to public transit is generally a strong positive for any accommodation in Jersey City, offering easy commutes for both leisure and business travelers seeking alternatives to higher-priced New York City hotels.

However, the immediate environment around the hotel, as described by a former tenant, raises significant concerns. One review explicitly mentions issues with the surrounding property, stating that "tenants and repairmen throw broken glass into the tiny amount of grass we have in this neighborhood." This suggests potential disregard for cleanliness and safety in the immediate vicinity, particularly for pedestrians or those with pets. While Journal Square itself is a bustling urban area with ongoing redevelopment, these specific accounts paint a less than ideal picture of the immediate surroundings of the Academy Hotel.

Unlike some hotel descriptions that highlight scenic views or pleasant outdoor spaces, the provided information does not offer any positive details about the hotel's exterior environment beyond its address. Therefore, guests should anticipate a typical urban setting, potentially with the aforementioned issues, rather than a picturesque or tranquil ambiance.

Services and Amenities

Based on the extremely limited and critically negative customer reviews provided, specific details about the standard services and amenities offered by the Academy Hotel are largely absent. Hotels typically offer a range of services from front desk assistance to housekeeping, but the feedback points to significant deficiencies that overshadow any presumed standard offerings.

Guest Rooms:

The most alarming information regarding guest rooms comes from a former resident who states, "For $800/monthly, the cost every month isn't worth it. How can you collect money from people and have them in a place with rodents, bedbugs, and mold? This place needs to be shut down permanently." This review, if accurate, indicates severe issues with hygiene, pest control, and structural integrity that fall far below acceptable hotel standards. The presence of "rodents, bedbugs, and mold" suggests a profound failure in basic sanitation and maintenance, which would render any other amenities meaningless for the majority of guests. There is no information provided about specific room types, in-room features (like Wi-Fi, TV, private bathrooms, or climate control), or housekeeping schedules, which are typically standard details for hotel introductions. Given the severity of the complaints, it would be irresponsible to assume any level of quality or consistency in these areas.

Staff and Management:

The reviews offer a highly concerning portrayal of the hotel's management and staff interactions. One review describes the owner as "insane," recounting an incident where the owner allegedly "busted through the door like the Kool-Aid man and started screaming at me, threatening to follow me home" because a dog sniffed the building. This reported behavior indicates an extremely unprofessional, aggressive, and potentially threatening environment for guests and visitors. The subsequent placement of a sign demanding "REspEcT MY tEnAnTS" further illustrates a confrontational and erratic management style. Such accounts are highly detrimental to any perception of customer service, hospitality, or safety within the establishment.

Other Services:

Beyond these severe criticisms, there is no information available regarding common hotel services such as dining options (restaurants, cafes, breakfast services), fitness centers, business facilities, parking, or airport/local shuttles. Given the nature of the reviews, it is improbable that guests would be able to rely on or even comfortably utilize such services, even if they were nominally available. The lack of positive or even neutral information about these aspects further emphasizes the critical issues reported.

Features and Promotional Information

Based on the provided information, the Academy Hotel does not present any features that would typically be highlighted in a positive promotional context. The critical reviews entirely overshadow any potential redeeming qualities or unique selling points. The phrase "for $800/monthly, the cost every month isn't worth it" from a former tenant indicates that even at a potentially lower long-term stay rate, the value proposition is extremely poor due to fundamental living conditions. There is no mention of promotional offers, loyalty programs, or special packages, which is unsurprising given the severity of the negative feedback.

In fact, the existing information serves more as a cautionary tale than promotional material. The "features" that emerge from the customer reviews are overwhelmingly negative:

  • Aggressive Management: As described in the incident with the dog, indicating a hostile environment.
  • Unsanitary Conditions: Reports of "rodents, bedbugs, and mold" in rooms are major health and safety concerns.
  • Unsafe Surroundings: Allegations of broken glass being deliberately thrown in grassy areas.
  • Poor Value: Despite a potentially low price point, the conditions are deemed unacceptable, making it a poor investment.

It is important to reiterate that this introduction is based solely on the provided customer reviews and publicly available contact information. If these reviews are representative, the Academy Hotel at 168 Academy St, Jersey City, NJ 07306, USA, appears to have significant issues with management, hygiene, and overall living conditions, making it a highly questionable choice for accommodation. Prospective guests searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Jersey City are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consider alternative options that can provide a safe, clean, and professional environment.

Given the nature of the reviews, particularly the serious allegations of unhygienic conditions and aggressive behavior, the hotel's operational status and adherence to public health and safety standards would be a primary concern for any potential guest or authority. The information unequivocally suggests that any stay at this establishment would likely involve considerable discomfort and potential risks.

I lived at Academy from 2017 - 2020. By far the worst place I've lived. For $800/monthly, the cost every month isn't worth it. How can you collect money from people and have them in a place with rodents, bedbugs, and mold? This place needs to be shut down permanently.
