At first looking at the reviews, I thought people where being dramatic. Upon staying not even the first night but booked for two due to work (Both myself and daughter) We decided to bring my grandson and the sitter. This hotel is horrible. I knew it was going to be issues at the very beginning. First the front desk lady did not want to document the methods of payment on my receipt. Then the phone in the room did not work. And she kept telling me it did and when i told her it didn’t. She said why don’t you just use your cellphone. I told her the reason because I have an infant child and I want to have two moods of communication with the sitter. The sink was clogged. The toilet was running. It looked like the toilet had just been used because it looked as if it had fecal matter still there. The whole hotel smelled of marijuana… I mean the whole hotel which is utterly ridiculous. I regret even booking this room but I was scheduled to do shifts at the local rehabilitation center and I live out of town. I will NOT be staying another night.

Airport Plaza Hotel JFK Airport Introduce

For local users searching platforms like "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Jamaica, Queens area, the Airport Plaza Hotel JFK Airport is an establishment that frequently appears, primarily catering to travelers in transit or those needing convenient access to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Located at 13909 Archer Ave, Jamaica, NY 11435, USA, its name clearly indicates its core appeal. However, an objective introduction necessitates a balanced view, incorporating both the hotel's intended offerings and the varied experiences reported by past guests. While the hotel aims to provide essential services for airport travelers, customer reviews suggest a complex reality that potential guests should consider.

Environment:

The Airport Plaza Hotel JFK Airport is situated on Archer Avenue, a major thoroughfare in Jamaica, Queens. This is a highly urbanized and active environment, typical of a busy New York City borough. The immediate vicinity is characterized by a mix of commercial establishments, residential buildings, and significant transportation infrastructure. Guests can expect a dynamic streetscape with constant vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and the associated city sounds. A key aspect of its environment is its unparalleled proximity to major transit hubs. The hotel is within walking distance of the Sutphin Boulevard – Archer Avenue – JFK Airport subway station and the Jamaica Station, which serve the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), several NYC Transit subway lines (E, J, Z), and the AirTrain JFK. This offers excellent connectivity to JFK Airport terminals, as well as direct routes to Manhattan and other parts of New York City, making it highly convenient for those prioritizing airport access.

However, customer reviews frequently highlight aspects of the surrounding environment that can be challenging. Some guests have described the neighborhood as "unsafe" at night, suggesting a need for caution when venturing out after dark. Reports of "people on drugs" in the lobby and "prostitutes awaiting their ride" indicate a potentially less polished and more raw urban atmosphere than some travelers might anticipate. The presence of non-stop police sirens, honking, and yelling, as noted by one guest, suggests a high level of urban noise and activity that can impact sleep quality. While the hotel's location is undoubtedly convenient for airport access, the immediate street-level environment, as described by some, warrants careful consideration, especially for solo female travelers or families with young children.

Services:

The Airport Plaza Hotel JFK Airport aims to provide essential services to its guests, focusing on the needs of airport travelers. Based on typical offerings for hotels in this category and information from various online sources, the hotel generally provides:

  • 24-Hour Front Desk: A front desk that operates around the clock is crucial for guests arriving on late flights or departing early, facilitating check-ins and check-outs at any hour.
  • Airport Shuttle Service: While some sources indicate a shuttle service, it is often available for a surcharge (e.g., around USD 18). This service is a key amenity for airport hotels.
  • Free Wi-Fi: Complimentary internet access is available in rooms and public areas, typically with a speed of 25+ Mbps, allowing guests to stay connected.
  • Breakfast Options: The hotel offers breakfast, though it is often a "to-go" option and typically comes with a surcharge (e.g., around USD 18 per person). There is also an on-site American cuisine restaurant called Idlewild Restaurant that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner.
  • Parking: Free self-parking is available on-site, a valuable amenity in an urban area. Valet parking is also offered for a surcharge (e.g., USD 25 per day), though parking capacity might be limited.
  • Basic Room Amenities: Rooms are generally equipped with air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with premium channels, desks, and sometimes full-sized refrigerators/freezers. Private bathrooms come with designer toiletries and shower/tub combinations.
  • Housekeeping: Daily housekeeping is typically provided.
  • Other Conveniences: These may include an ATM, grocery/convenience store on-site, luggage storage, vending machines, and limited room service.

However, customer reviews present significant concerns regarding service quality. Issues reported include unhelpful or rude front desk staff, as highlighted by one guest who was asked for a PIN directly rather than being given the card machine. Problems with room amenities such as non-functional phones, clogged sinks, and running toilets were also noted. The widespread smell of marijuana throughout the hotel, as reported by a guest, suggests a lapse in maintaining a desired atmosphere and potentially enforcing hotel policies. These inconsistencies in service delivery are crucial for potential guests to consider.

Features:

The features of the Airport Plaza Hotel JFK Airport are designed to provide fundamental accommodation, prioritizing location and basic amenities.

  • Strategic Location for JFK Access: Its primary feature is its close proximity to JFK Airport and the AirTrain, making it highly convenient for quick transits, early departures, and late arrivals.
  • Connectivity to NYC: The hotel's location near subway and LIRR stations provides relatively easy access to Manhattan and other parts of New York City, despite the area not being a traditional tourist hub.
  • On-site Dining: The Idlewild Restaurant offers a convenient dining option for guests who prefer to eat within the hotel premises.
  • Fitness Center: A 24-hour fitness center is available, allowing guests to maintain their exercise routines.
  • Business Center and Meeting Rooms: The hotel offers business services and has multiple meeting rooms, catering to business travelers.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: Pets are allowed for an extra charge (e.g., USD 75 per pet, per stay), with service animals exempt from fees.
  • Soundproofed Rooms: Some rooms are described as soundproofed, which could be a significant feature in a noisy urban and airport-adjacent environment, though the effectiveness can vary.

Despite these intended features, customer feedback often indicates that the actual state of the facilities can be a drawback. Reports of rooms feeling "old and rundown," "a bit dirty," and issues like "fecal matter" in toilets or graffiti on walls, suggest that maintenance and cleanliness standards might be inconsistent. Concerns about security, including reports of attempts to enter rooms by unauthorized individuals and questionable activity in the lobby, also impact the perception of the hotel's features from a safety standpoint.

Promotional Information:

For local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me," the Airport Plaza Hotel JFK Airport would likely promote itself on the basis of its convenience, particularly for airport travel, and its basic amenities. Promotional messaging would typically emphasize:

  • "Your Closest Stay to JFK Airport": Highlighting its primary advantage for airport travelers.
  • "Easy Access to NYC via AirTrain and Subway": Promoting its connectivity to the city's public transportation network.
  • "Free Parking and Essential Amenities for a Practical Stay": Emphasizing the value of complimentary parking and core services like Wi-Fi.
  • "On-Site Dining and Fitness for Your Convenience": Highlighting the available restaurant and gym.

However, given the consistent themes in negative customer reviews, potential guests should approach promotional claims with caution. For the most objective decision, it is recommended to directly contact the hotel at (718) 480-3917 or +1 718-480-3917 to confirm current conditions, services, and any specific concerns. It is also advisable to consult multiple recent reviews across various booking platforms to form a realistic expectation of the current guest experience. While some travelers might find it suitable for a very short, functional stay due to its location and parking, others may find the reported issues regarding cleanliness, staff demeanor, and ambient environment to be significant deterrents.

Look I’m not going to lie - I felt a bit scared staying here as a female travelling solo. The hotel smelt like smoke, I was constantly hearing people in the halls, as I was checking in it seemed like people on drugs were coming down from the rooms. I was even asked for money while I was in the lobby. The woman at the desk when I checked in was rude - she asked for my PIN instead of giving me the card machine so I could enter it… but the staff in the morning were very friendly. The room itself was basic, it seemed old and rundown and a bit dirty but overall I slept okay. Another girl at the hotel said someone tried to get into her room at 10pm. All in all, don’t expect too much. Be conscious that Jamaica is apparently an unsafe area that you shouldn’t walk around at night. Not the hotels fault, but important to know.

100% accurate with the rest of the 1 star reviews. If I could give NO stars, I would. I have never in my life witnessed or been inside of a worse hotel. First, the area seems sketchy. Upon entering the hotel, you can tell it hasn’t been cleaned in ages- floor disgusting, old couches in the lobby. It REEKS of pot and cigarettes. Got to our room and there was a ton of noise from neighboring rooms and banging on doors. Inside of the room- holes in the blanket/comforter, old party decorations on the ceiling, hair on the floors and towels, stains on sheets, nightstand was disgusting with jelly-like substance and looks like it hasn't been cleaned, and also REEKED of pot/cigarettes. Honestly don’t know how this place is up and running, or how it even has 3 stars. We stayed for 5 minutes to rebook at a legit hotel and left within a total of 10 mins of checking in. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

As I stay in this dungeon of a "hotel" tricked by my lack of due diligence and poor travel lodging plans I write this with disappointment in myself. I'm a Cyberpunk 2077 fan but I did not know that I would be staying in a "hotel" that one would find in Night City Mega Block. Regardless of the beautiful days that I've had traveling about New York on my trip this place is the forever darkness. Ran down, deprived, ages of grit from the uncleanliness baked into every wall, floor and fixture is the only way to visually describe it. As you walk in the automated doors the feeling of a rabbit walking into a caged trap is unpreventable. If that doesn't trigger your flight reflex their "guest food center" which consists of an old soda machine that you would like in a laundry mat and one ( 1 ) highly used, questionable $35 microwave. I would feel bad for a fly if it were to venture in it for a snack let alone a human placing actual food in it that they intend on consuming. If you find the courage to venture out of your quarters at night into the decrepit hallways of this structure called a "hotel" brace yourself for anything and be prepared to possibly have to fight or run. I will not go any further into details regarding this place. For lack of other options last minute at a reasonable price I am stranded until my flight tomorrow. I write this as I sit at what appears to be the cleanest space in the room as I hear an argument in the next room between a "lady of the night" and her "customer" over money. You've been warned...

Made reservations and when I arrived they give a key. The room was not clean. Bed dirty and unmade, towels in the floor. When I told him he offered 2 other room keys. Both rooms where dirty and he try to give me sheets and towels so I have to make the bed. At least the desk guy refunded me. That is at 130 am and I have to walk and find another hotel who can take me.!! Get out of this business
