Very friendly staff. Prices are quite high. One cup and one bowl of soup (soup was very good and they had many soups) plus two sandwiches came to $49.00. A cheeseburger no chips, no fries $16.00. I realize small businesses are struggling but so are the customers
The American Hotel Of Lima, located at 7304 E Main St, Lima, NY 14485, USA, is much more than just a place to stay; it's a cherished institution in the heart of Lima, New York. Functioning predominantly as a beloved restaurant and bar, with a history of offering lodging, it embodies the spirit of a quintessential American small-town establishment. Within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, it serves as a central gathering place, inviting locals and visitors alike to enjoy its rich history, warm ambiance, and celebrated comfort food.
The American Hotel Of Lima boasts a deep and storied history, with a presence on its site since around 1790. The current building, constructed in 1840 and rebuilt in 1861 after fires, exudes an "old school principles" charm, giving it the feel of a "beautiful older hotel, restaurant and bar." This historical authenticity contributes significantly to its unique atmosphere, distinguishing it from modern establishments. It has been owned and operated by the Reynolds family since 1920, with generations of the family residing on the third floor, further cementing its familial and community ties.
Situated on East Main Street, the hotel is at the crossroads of Western New York, strategically located on what were once main routes between major cities like Boston and Buffalo. This central location in the historic core of Lima contributes to its role as a focal point for the community. While the specific decor is not detailed in the reviews, the "old school" description suggests a classic, perhaps traditional American pub or inn aesthetic, fostering a comfortable and familiar setting for patrons. The ambiance is generally described as inviting, with an emphasis on friendliness from both staff and fellow customers.
The core of the American Hotel Of Lima's services lies in its widely praised culinary offerings and its commitment to friendly, attentive service. Guests consistently highlight the "very friendly staff" and "nice folks" who make visitors feel welcome.
The restaurant is renowned for its "great comfort food." A particular standout, as recommended by a customer, are the "spiedies," which are marinated chicken, sautéed and served in an Italian hot dog roll, often with cheese and onions. This dish is a regional specialty and a must-try for new visitors.
Another major highlight is the extensive selection of "homemade soups." The hotel prides itself on having "over 200 soups to choose from," with eight fresh pots cooked daily, never frozen. This dedication to fresh, homemade fare is a significant draw.
While prices were noted by one reviewer as "quite high" (e.g., $16 for a cheeseburger without sides, and $49 for two soups and two sandwiches), the quality of the food, particularly the soup, was acknowledged as "very good." This suggests that while it might not be the cheapest option, patrons often find the quality justifies the cost. Current menu prices show a cup of soup at $6.00 and a bowl at $7.00. Hamburgers are listed at $15.00, and cheeseburgers at $16.00, with a small Speidie for $16.00 and a large for $18.00. The menu also includes a variety of sandwiches, salads, and wraps.
The dining hours are typically from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM for lunch and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for dinner from Tuesday to Friday, with Saturday hours also available. The hotel also has a bar, which serves beverages, indicated by the customer review mentioning "excellent Manhattans."
Regarding lodging, the American Hotel Of Lima does indeed offer rooms for rent, as indicated by its name and its official website. The second-floor rooms are available, and the hotel shares its home with guests, maintaining its "hotel" status. Room types include double beds and twin beds, with options for shared or private bathrooms. Rates are approximately $90/night for shared bathroom rooms and $100/night for private bathroom rooms, though these prices should be confirmed directly with the hotel. This provides a charming, historic, and affordable lodging alternative for those who appreciate character over conventional hotel amenities.

Apr 04, 2025 · Damon MankowskiEverything is excellent here, great variety of soups each time we've stopped. Only negative is the root beers have been flat multiple times! If you're a soup lover like me this is your place, and their "comfort food" nights always hit the spot. Even their tossed salads were on point, smaller menu but GOOD food!!
Mar 13, 2024 · kyle kuhnerThis is truly a local gem!!! The food is like a warm hug to the belly. Every soup is delicious (our favorite is the Split Pea so far). The turkey reuben is so flavorful, and the chicken spiedie is to die for. The service makes you feel like family. Rose & staff are some of the kindest people we've met. It's no frills, nothing fancy, just an incredibly historic, warm atmosphere.
