Absolutely Disgusting and Unsafe – Stay Away Don’t believe the pictures on their website — the reality in person is completely different and frankly inhumane. This was, without a doubt, the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I booked a stay at Candlewood Suites in Augusta, GA, and what I walked into was not just disappointing — it was dangerous. The room reeked of something awful. Within minutes, I found what looked like human feces smeared on the bathroom wall. Let that sink in — actual excrement. Beyond disgusting, it’s a serious health hazard. As someone with asthma, the air quality was immediately a problem. I had to use my inhaler almost as soon as I entered. It was clear the room had not been properly cleaned or maintained. The condition was unacceptable on every level. Here’s just a snapshot of what I found: A missing kitchen light fixture — just a bare bulb hanging Exposed electrical wires in multiple spots Dirty doors covered in greasy handprints A makeshift “kitchen table” made of plywood and visible screws A filthy, stained bathtub Sloppy, patchy paint jobs even in the hallways Leaking air vents with water dripping from the ceiling Filthy carpets throughout the entire building I reported everything to the hotel staff. No action was taken. No room change, no apology, and absolutely no refund offered. This isn’t about high standards or picky preferences — this is about basic hygiene, safety, and decency. I had to leave because staying there was a risk to my health. I’m requesting a full refund and have opened a dispute with my credit card company. Avoid this place at all costs. No one should be expected to sleep in conditions like this.

Candlewood Suites Augusta, an IHG Hotel Introduce

Hello, Georgia residents! When your plans bring you to Augusta for an extended period, whether it's for a temporary work assignment, military relocation to Fort Gordon, medical reasons, or a longer family visit, finding accommodation that truly feels like a home away from home is essential. Candlewood Suites Augusta, an IHG Hotel, is designed with extended stays in mind, offering amenities that aim to provide comfort and convenience for travelers settling in for a while.

Candlewood Suites, as an IHG brand, is specifically tailored for guests needing more than just a standard hotel room. The emphasis is on spacious suites equipped with full kitchens, complimentary laundry facilities, and a pet-friendly policy, all designed to make longer stays more comfortable and cost-effective. The idea is to provide guests with the independence and flexibility they would have in their own homes.

However, it is crucial to address recent guest feedback directly and transparently. While the brand promises comfort and convenience, some recent experiences at this specific location have raised serious concerns. Reviews describe issues ranging from strong odors and cleanliness problems, including alleged human waste, to safety concerns like exposed electrical wires and general disrepair. One guest’s account of "Absolutely Disgusting and Unsafe" conditions, detailing "human feces smeared on the bathroom wall," "missing kitchen light fixture," "exposed electrical wires," and "filthy, stained bathtub," indicates a significant departure from expected standards. Another review highlights issues with room capacity and lack of basic amenities like blankets, alongside inconvenient early morning room service attempts.

These detailed and alarming accounts suggest that while the concept of Candlewood Suites is appealing, the execution at this particular property may not always meet the brand's intended quality or even basic hygiene and safety requirements. As locals, we understand the importance of factual information and reliable experiences. It's imperative for prospective guests to be aware of such serious feedback. While the hotel generally boasts features like full kitchens and complimentary laundry that are highly valuable for extended stays, these reviews indicate that the actual condition and service can be inconsistent and, in some cases, severely disappointing.

It is important for any Georgian considering this hotel to weigh these concerns against the advertised amenities and make an informed decision, perhaps by contacting the hotel directly with specific questions about recent conditions or reviewing the latest guest feedback from multiple sources. A hotel's quality can fluctuate, and while some guests may have positive stays, these recent reviews warrant serious consideration for anyone prioritizing cleanliness and safety.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Georgians needing a place to stay in Augusta, particularly for extended periods, Candlewood Suites Augusta, an IHG Hotel, is theoretically designed to be a highly suitable option due to its focus on providing home-like amenities. The concept of an extended-stay hotel with full kitchens, complimentary laundry, and a pet-friendly policy offers significant benefits that align well with local needs.

The full kitchens are a major draw, allowing guests to save money by preparing their own meals, a practical consideration for any Georgian on a longer trip or managing a budget. This feature is especially beneficial for families or those with specific dietary requirements. The free self-service laundry facilities also provide immense convenience, preventing the need for costly hotel laundry services or searching for external laundromats.

The location is also a strong point. Its proximity to Fort Gordon makes it an excellent choice for military families and personnel, who often require extended lodging during transitions. For those visiting Augusta University's medical district or on temporary work assignments, the easy access from I-20 and nearby amenities like grocery stores and restaurants add to its practicality.

However, it is absolutely essential for any Georgian considering this hotel to be fully aware of the serious negative feedback from recent customers, as detailed in the provided reviews. Concerns about cleanliness (including human waste), safety (exposed wires), and general disrepair are alarming and cannot be overlooked. While the idea of Candlewood Suites is to offer comfort and convenience, these specific accounts indicate that the actual execution at this location may fall drastically short of basic expectations for hygiene and safety.

Therefore, while the hotel's features are inherently suitable for extended stays, any local planning a visit must exercise extreme caution. It would be highly advisable to contact the hotel directly to inquire about current conditions and management's response to these significant issues, and to review the most recent guest feedback from multiple sources before booking. The suitability for locals, in this case, hinges entirely on the hotel's ability to provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment, regardless of its advertised amenities. Without addressing these critical concerns, the potential for a negative and even unsafe experience appears to be high.

They called me at 7am the morning we were to check in, who calls someone at that hour?? The hotel room, booked for 5 people, could only accommodate 4. My oldest son slept on couch cushions pushed together, the other 2 were on the pullout couch. They didn't have blankets for the pullout couch or any extra in the hotel so we had to actually go to a store and purchase blankets. They tried to do room service at 7 something in the morning while we were sleeping. All and all great front desk staff - the lady was wonderful even though she could do nothing for us, but the hotel itself was poor quality.

Long story short: DO NOT STAY HERE !! YOU WILL REGRET IT FALSE ADVERTISING and the WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE I’d like to start by saying that I don’t leave negative reviews, I’m not a crazy Karen, I’m patient and understanding about things that are out of someone’s control - but THIS has tested every piece of patience I have. And if I could give ZERO stars, I would ! My family (2 adults, 3 small children) booked a Queen 1 bedroom suite (bedroom separate from living room with pull-out couch in living room) for our weekend stay. We booked about a month ahead of time (well in advance). When we arrived, we were told that they had *NO* suites available due to a busted water pipe. Okay, fine, there’s no way to prevent this, we were understanding. (I would’ve loved a courtesy call so that we could have a chance to make other accommodations but we did not receive that). The young lady at the desk offered us 2 separate rooms, but did not have any adjoining rooms. Okay, fine again. Then, we were told that instead of paying the $251 that we originally booked for, we would now be charged $430 for the 2 rooms. We’re patient people so again, we just dealt with it - it was 3pm on a Friday afternoon so we didn’t have many options. We get to the rooms and notice immediately that it smells like weed and cigarette smoke and the sheer/light curtains were handing off the track. Not wanting to be blamed for any of this, we immediately told the front desk just to make them aware. We told them the maintenance guy didn’t need to come fix it right now, we just wanted to let them know. (And we just wanted to finally get in our rooms and relax). A few minutes later a maintenance man who was CLEARLY HIGH out of his mind, tried to enter the room. We had to tell him twice to stop. A few hours go by and suddenly water starts POURING out of the ceiling light fixtures. We quickly moved our children’s belongings, only to see that the water started seeping under the floor into our 2nd room ! Trying to find someone to help was ridiculous but we finally found a lady named KIM, who is the worst customer service employee I’ve ever met. We didn’t get an apology or offered any other room until we tracked her down again and asked specifically. She finally moves us to 2 rooms down the hall - 1 room was still disgusting, full of previous guests trash, food, etc. and the 2nd room had no AC and was 80 degrees. Here we go to find Kim again. We tell her the new rooms problems and ask for a manager. Well, wouldn’t you know it? They don’t HAVE a manager even in town. Kim tells us that the manager is gone out of town, they can’t be called. and there’s nothing she can do to give us any refund or partial refund. She claims she doesn’t have the ability and there’s no one she can call. She has the most dismissive attitude, rolls her eyes, and then she’s gone again. After having to take 20 minutes to PROVE to her that the rooms AC wasn’t working and we did not have time to sit around and wait for the other room to be cleaned, we’re finally moved to 1 final room (we’d given up on even trying to have a second room/second bed for our kids to sleep in.) We finally move all of our bags and get into this last room. We were offered a rollaway bed and when we went to the front desk to get it, we’re told “Oh, it’s in maintenance and we don’t have a key to be able to get it.” Okaaayyy FINE - how about some extra blankets/sheets?? Nope, they “don’t have ANY clean linens”, we’re told. Again, we’re told this by Kim who has a blank stare, doesn’t apologize, doesn’t care, and looks like she’s ready to get rid of us so she can go have her smoke break again. At this point, I called corporate and opened a case to request a refund of my entire stay because we’re so dissatisfied. It’s been 48 hours and I’m now on the phone to see if corporate will make this right. Please save yourself and your family the headache of staying at this piss-poor establishment.

This location did not cancel my reservation in a timely manner. I met the criteria for my reservation cancellation. When I made the reservation, I as most people read the rules on cancellation. The inconsiderate manager refused to assist me and just want to keep my hard earned money. She stuck with a rule that didn’t exist at the time of my reservation on their website. I lost over $500.00 and never stayed at this hotel. I guess they want to “make money” no matter what. Everyone should be aware that the manager doesn’t care about potential customers. I guess I was nieve to believe in a company to do the right thing. If the IHG corporation hires these types of managers, I will never stay at any of their family of hotels. Times are challenging and many people don’t have that type of money to lose. The manager of the Augusta location doesn’t care about customer service. I’m very disappointed with their MANAGER. My overall rating for the facility is a total of zero. Maybe she need additional training on how to better assist customers. I will inform my retired military community of the lack of interest towards IHG assisting them with unclear information on their website.

Stayed there for 8 nights on business. Upon arrival i was told that the property had no water . The smell was terrible glad I had family in town to be able to shower . Owner refused to get propane for the grill . Was more worried about masters guest coming in at a 750.00 night rate . Upon checkout they told me I owed another 450 bucks because rates went up . Yeah right I wouldn't let a wounded animal stay at this place . Please if you happen to stay here put the deposit on a card that is not directly connected to your bank . They are thieves . This is by far the absolute worse hotel stay ever. Cops were at the property tazing some guy for terrifyingly guest omg I could go on and on but do not stay here . I'd sleep in my car before I had to stay here again.
