Went for a nice night of karaoke and friends and arrived to what seemed like the entire Dubuque Police department. Then went in lobby to find some guy in the back with a child crying.. screaming crying! I looked around the corner to see this child(5-7) walking across a five foot tall wall of beer bottles!! What is this world coming to when the EMPLOYERS allow this type of behavior at the work place?!?!? Calls will be made on behalf of the child on Monday!! This can't be ok!!

Canfield Hotel Dubuque Introduce

For residents of Iowa, knowing the best places to stay in your own state is a great way to plan a memorable getaway or host visiting friends and family. In the historic city of Dubuque, the Canfield Hotel stands out as a lodging option with a unique character and a long history. This article is crafted for the Iowa local, providing a clear, engaging, and factual overview of this hotel. We'll delve into its location, the services it offers, and what real customers have to say about their experience, so you can make an informed decision about whether it’s the right place for your next stay.

The Canfield Hotel is a building steeped in history, located in the heart of Dubuque. A customer review highlights its historical aspect, noting, "It's a very old hotel with lots of history. If you enjoy antiques, you'll enjoy your stay here." This suggests that the hotel’s charm lies in its preservation of a bygone era, with its decor and atmosphere appealing to those with an appreciation for the past. The hotel’s unique character is a major part of its appeal, offering a different experience from the typical modern chain hotel. The same review also praised the "beautifully decorated" and "very spacious room," as well as the "decent" view and windows that "actually open and allow fresh air." These details paint a picture of a place that, despite its age, offers a comfortable and pleasant environment for guests.

However, as with any establishment, it's important to consider all public feedback. Another review provided a very different perspective, raising serious concerns about a chaotic and unprofessional environment. This guest described an incident involving police presence, a crying child, and a precarious situation with a "five foot tall wall of beer bottles." The reviewer expressed a great deal of concern for the child and the overall lack of professional behavior, stating, "This can't be ok!!" This feedback, while anecdotal, is important to consider as it highlights a potential for inconsistency in the hotel's atmosphere and management. This kind of information is crucial for an Iowa local who is trying to decide where to book a stay, especially if a peaceful and family-friendly environment is a priority.

The hotel appears to have a dual identity, offering a historic charm for those who appreciate it, while also having a reputation for a more lively and sometimes unpredictable atmosphere, as suggested by the karaoke and bar scene. The combination of these factors gives the Canfield Hotel a very distinct personality, one that will appeal to some while being a deterrent for others. For the local Iowan, it's about weighing the historical beauty against the potential for a less-than-serene experience.

It was beautifully decorated. Very spacious room (except the bathroom). The view was decent. Windows that actually open and allow fresh air are great! It's a very old hotel with lots of history. If you enjoy antiques, you'll enjoy your stay here.

I'm not sure where to start!! So I'll start here ..WHERE ARE THE OWNERS???? I refuse to believe that ANY owner would allow in Iowa with all the legal ramifications someone to bring their CHILD to work. Seeing this little guy run and jump off the beer bottles in back and all over the lobby furniture AT 1AM!!!! THIS PLACE IS A LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN!! None of the staff are professional at all!! They don't care about the place and it shows in the lack of concern for the guest. Wow is all I have left to say!! Shame on you OWNERS..this place used to be fun and had some life to it!!

Roaches in rooms. Receptionist sleeps on couch in lobby. No housekeeping. It’s always loud from other rooms and smells from other rooms. Large garbage bags just get tossed into hallways. Loy of sketchy people staying there.

UPDATE 9-13. No reply at all from the hotel in regards to the partial refund I was promised... Taking the dispute up with Expedia. Do not stay here This stay was a nightmare. Upon a lengthy check in with a disheveled but pleasant front desk worker (over 20 mins to hand write several receipts and various paperwork) we were informed there would be no hot water. It was 11:30pm & we were checking out fairly early so we agreed that we would be able to get by without it. Upon arriving in our room, it was freezing. The app on my phone told me it was 55° in the room & 62° outside. After 8 or 9 phone calls with the front desk, We were informed our complaint would first be logged in a log book, which I said was unacceptable, we were then told the manager could be texted because he "lived all the way in Wisconsin." If you are aware of the distance between Dubuque & Wisconsin it is approximately 5 minutes. Also we are from Wisconsin & can confirm there is phone service there. A phone call was eventually made to the owner who informed the front desk clerk to tell us that we could check out immediately, at this point it is 12:30 a.m. and get a full refund. I had also been messaging with Expedia and was told the same thing via their chat app. I was then offered a 50% refund if we decided to stay. Since it was so late we decided to ask for more blankets, bundle up, block the air ducts with towels, and hunker down for the night. It is now Monday night and I have heard nothing from the hotel in regards to my partial refund. The room was adequately clean and extremely dated. Would not recommend UPDATE. it's Wednesday. Still no communication from this hotel.
