I was there to see the Original.Pinettes Perform. The experience felt like going to anew venue that had just opened. It seemed disorganized. I had a hard time opening the door to get in. They asked for my ticket but as a visitor to the city I didn't have access to a printer and there wasn't an option to add it to my phone wallet. It did say I could pick my ticket up at Will Call but there wasn't a system in place for that. I waited 20 minutes to order a drink at the bar and there was only 1 person ahead of me.. There is limited seating, but it was a cool spot to watch a great performance. I did read that they do a Buffet Lunch and history tour of the establishment and I would likely go back and do that on another visit to NOLA.
For those of us in Louisiana, a visit to New Orleans is often about more than just sightseeing; it's about connecting with the soul of the city, its history, and its unparalleled music. The "Dew Drop Inn Hotel & Lounge" at 2836 Lasalle St, New Orleans, LA 70115, USA, offers a truly unique opportunity to do just that. This isn't just a hotel; it's a living legend, impeccably restored to its former glory as one of the most culturally significant music venues in American history. What began in 1939 as a barbershop and hotel, and later expanded to become "the South's swankiest spot," is now an intimate boutique hotel with 17 themed rooms, a vibrant music lounge, and a new Haven Pool Club.
The Dew Drop Inn holds a revered place in music history, serving as an incubator for rhythm & blues and early rock & roll. Iconic Black musicians like Ray Charles, Little Richard (who famously improvised "Tutti Frutti" here), Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, and countless others graced its stage. It was a crucial hub during the Jim Crow era, not only offering entertainment but also providing respectable lodging for Black artists and acting as a haven where diverse audiences could mix, often in defiance of segregation laws. Frank Painia, the original owner, was a pioneer, even challenging discriminatory laws in court. Today, the Dew Drop Inn stands as a testament to that rich past, a "museum-hotel" that beautifully blends its historic roots with modern amenities.
While some past customer reviews mention initial growing pains with ticketing or minor room issues like a sticky lock, it's clear the spirit of the Dew Drop Inn is alive and well. The excitement of seeing performances by groups like the Original Pinettes, and the draw of experiences like the Buffet Lunch and history tour, speak to the unique allure of this establishment. It's a place where you can sleep in a room dedicated to a music legend, then walk out and experience live music where history was made. For anyone in Louisiana looking to deeply connect with the heart and soul of New Orleans' musical legacy, the Dew Drop Inn Hotel & Lounge is an unparalleled destination.

Apr 27, 2025 路 Ceaux ChittyWas excited about the cool history of this place and love the black aesthetics. Decent, clean and interestingly decorated room, but pretty barebones regarding amenities. Also, the door would not lock. I asked them to look at it the first day and no one did. The second day I was directed to lift the handle and push really hard but every time I tried it took about 3 minutes to get locked. Doors that lock seem pretty basic.
Mar 27, 2025 路 Liz HarrisThis place is such a hidden gem in the city. Live music, great drinks for a good price, and even free food sometimes. The staff is super nice and I love that they have nights where anyone can join the band on stage. Theres even a little museum so you can learn the history. Can鈥檛 wait to go back
Jun 04, 2025 路 Jessica AWe went for Saturday Brunch. It was a delightful experience! The music, the food, the staff all deserve a Gold 馃専. So much history. The tour of the museum was so detailed and so much information. Everyone needs to visit this place, and experience for themselves.
May 19, 2025 路 MarthaDropped in for a Dip at the Dew Drop 馃挦馃憴馃彁 nice small, quaint pool and patio space. They could use some more poolside Chaise lounge chairs. Six of that style isn't enough.
