Please don’t stay here! ********* First off this is not just a low budget hotel but it’s also a shelter for the homeless. This is important to know. So 75% of the hotel is a shelter. From the front door the staff are rude. The hotel smells like urine and animals in the hallway. There is an infestation of bugs. It was a horrible stay. For individuals in search of accommodations in the Piscataway, New Jersey area, particularly those exploring options through platforms like "Hotels Near Of Me," Extended Stay America - Piscataway - Rutgers University presents itself as a potential choice. Located at 410 S Randolphville Rd, Piscataway, NJ 08854, USA, with phone contact available at (732) 235-1000 or mobile at +1 732-235-1000, this establishment is designed to cater to guests requiring longer-term stays, often featuring amenities that differentiate them from traditional nightly hotels.
When considering an extended stay hotel, the "Hotels Near Of Me" category is particularly relevant as it directly addresses the immediate need for lodging within a specific geographical proximity. This platform aims to connect users with services and goods – in this case, hotel rooms – that are conveniently located to their current or desired destination. Extended Stay America, as its name suggests, is a brand specifically tailored to longer visits, offering features like in-room kitchens that can be highly beneficial for guests seeking to maintain some semblance of home life while away.
From an environmental perspective, the hotel is situated in Piscataway, a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The area offers a mix of residential and commercial zones, and its proximity to Rutgers University is a key selling point, potentially attracting visiting academics, students, or families. However, it's important to approach the objective assessment of the hotel's immediate environment based on available feedback. Some customer reviews indicate concerns regarding the cleanliness of the hallways and the presence of unpleasant odors, such as urine and animal smells, which suggests a less than ideal immediate indoor environment. There have also been mentions of "strange people standing outside the building" and frequent police presence, which could point to broader environmental or community challenges impacting the hotel's surroundings.
In terms of services, Extended Stay America properties typically aim to provide a more self-sufficient experience for guests. A notable feature often highlighted is the presence of a kitchen in each room, which includes a stovetop, microwave, and refrigerator. This allows guests to prepare their own meals, potentially saving on dining expenses and offering a more personalized stay. However, based on customer feedback, the provision of kitchenware can be minimal. One review specifically noted the need to ask for a kettle and cups, and even then, the "kettle" provided was a basic coffee maker not suitable for boiling water. This suggests that guests planning to utilize the kitchen extensively may need to bring some of their own supplies or be prepared for limited amenities.
Housekeeping services in extended stay hotels can vary; some offer weekly cleaning, while others may provide more frequent service upon request or for an additional fee. It is generally understood that daily maid service is not standard in extended stay models to help keep costs down for guests on longer visits. The hotel also advertises a "grab-and-go breakfast," which typically consists of limited, pre-packaged items. One guest mentioned missing the breakfast time but being offered some bars by a staff member, indicating some level of flexibility or courtesy, though the overall breakfast offering is likely quite basic.
Regarding features, the rooms are designed to accommodate extended stays, often including a living area separate from the sleeping area. A review mentioned a room with one queen bed and a pull-out sofa bed, which caters to small families or groups. While the bed was described as comfortable and the room looked clean upon initial inspection, a significant feature limitation noted was the lack of extra bedding for the sofa bed, requiring guests to request additional sheets. Another functional feature concern was the curtains not completely blocking out light due to gaps, which could affect sleep quality for some guests.
A critical aspect to address when evaluating this hotel, based on customer reviews, is its reported function as a shelter for the homeless. One review explicitly stated that "75% of the hotel is a shelter," and that this is "important to know." This information, if accurate, significantly impacts the overall environment and guest experience, potentially leading to a different clientele and atmosphere than a typical hotel. The presence of police "every week" and "strange people standing outside the building" as noted by a guest further supports this observation and suggests potential safety or comfort concerns that prospective guests should be aware of. This aspect directly impacts the perceived quality and type of "service" offered, moving it beyond a standard hotel offering to a more multi-faceted community resource, which may not align with all travelers' expectations when searching for a "hotel near me."
Promotional information for Extended Stay America chains often emphasizes value for longer stays, the convenience of in-room kitchens, and pet-friendly policies. While no specific promotional offers were provided in the prompt, it is common for these hotels to offer discounted rates for weekly or monthly bookings. Guests seeking long-term accommodation for work, relocation, or medical reasons might find the cost-effectiveness appealing. However, the available reviews provide a stark counter-narrative to typical promotional messaging. The recurring themes of rude staff, pervasive unpleasant smells, insect infestations, overflowing garbage, mouse traps, and stained sheets are significant deterrents that directly contradict the expectation of a comfortable and clean stay that any promotional material would aim to convey.
In summary, Extended Stay America - Piscataway - Rutgers University, when viewed through the lens of a "Hotels Near Of Me" search, presents itself as an option for extended stays, offering amenities like in-room kitchens. However, objective assessment based on customer feedback highlights significant concerns regarding the overall environment, including cleanliness issues, odors, and potential pest problems. Service aspects, while aiming for self-sufficiency with kitchenettes, may fall short on basic provisions like adequate bedding or proper kitchen appliances. The reported dual function as a homeless shelter introduces a distinct social dynamic that profoundly impacts the guest experience and safety perception. Therefore, while it may offer a budget-friendly option for long-term stays, prospective guests should be fully informed of these potential drawbacks and consider whether the trade-offs align with their individual needs and expectations for a comfortable and secure accommodation.

Mar 23, 2025 · KWe stayed for one night. We couldn't check in when we arrived due to their system was down. The lady tried to help us but it seemed busy so decided to go out eat first and come back later. The room has one queen bed and a pull out sofa bed. It looked clean, bed felt comfy. However, they didn't have extra bedding set for the sofa bed, there was no info warning us of this either. But they were able to provide us extra sheets so my adult son had something to keep himself warm. It has a kitchen as well. But nothing else was provided. We had to ask for a kettle and cups. We had to go to the front desk to pick up things and the kettle was the cheapest coffee maker which was not for boiling water. The curtain didn't block up the lights completely because the gap to the wall. It's quite annoying so I ended up sleeping in the opposite direction. We missed the time for grab-to-go breakfast. But someone in the office (not the one at the front desk) was nice to offer us some bars.
Dec 26, 2024 · F. ZhouOn a positive note, the bed was comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the location was close to many restaurants and stores. Also, the room surfaces are clean. However, the major downside was the place smells like smoke. There is very old carpeting in the rooms and hallways in which the smell is trapped. If you have asthma or allergies, be prepared.
Mar 14, 2025 · Kate MarroneChecked in Friday.01/17/25 around 6-7pm I asked the front desk lady if there is a late check out fee because I want to check out at 1pm she said they only charge extra after 1pm so I’m good. The room smelled really bad. No normal hot water. It’s stays breakfast included. Well I don’t know about you guys but a coffee and an energy bar is not a breakfast for me at a hotel. There goes Sunday 01/19/25 10:30am the front desk guy knocked on the door I told him we’re checking out at 12:30pm he said okay. Then an hour later 11:30am he came back I told him again I said 12:30pm then he said I have to pay the late check out fee immediately or he’s gonna call the cops on me even tho I told him what the lady told me and it’s on recorded camera. Unbelievably rude. We left the room at.12:15pm went to the front desk and the guy told me he charged me 1hr for late check out. I mean after all this. All I’m gonna do is never go back there ever in my life. And spread the word to everyone I know about that this place.
Jan 20, 2025 · Gergő Czető***********FIRST IMPRESSIONS ************ I am currently on my first night of possibly staying for a few weeks. Just writing this before I completed my stay for one reason, the way I was treated at check-in! Girl was rude and acted like I was bothering her when I came to counter! I had 2 or 3 questions and she acted more ignorant after each one! I asked if there was a discount for staying longer and her response, “sir I can only see that if I enter a reservation” was said sarcastically, again like I was bothering her?! It was raining and I had a few bags so I asked if there was an outside door closer to my room so I didn’t have to lug my bag’s through the whole building and her response, “sir you do realize this is a hotel not a motel there are no outside access rooms” was said so ignorantly and sarcastic I just stopped talking to her at that point because I don’t take disrespect well! Room was decent and pretty clean only exception were the burners on stove were rusty and looked VERY USED and hairdryer was very dirty, I only noticed cus it wasn’t in its wall holder and I saw the dirt when I put it back. Fridge, sink, stove, and bathroom were clean. I was planning on staying for an extended time and I will try not to allow my initial front desk experience to sway my decision. I will post another review after my stay is complete.
