Terrible experience, very unprofessional, and unknowledgeable, no one was ever at the front desk even after our check out for our two-day stay, in which we ended up leaving the keys at the desk because no one was there. It took us forever to check in, and they charged our card triple. The guy at the desk, once he finally came, messed up our transaction, and the manager couldn't fix it; he didn't know what he was doing either, and he claimed he had no power to fix it. We have to dispute it now, and we'll get our money back. The bank confirmed the merchant had our money in their system and doesn't know why they acted as if they were stupid. Never will I ever book with them again. This was our first and last time. We recommend you choose another hotel, and the breakfast was horrible. I would rate this hotel a 0 if I could.

Its location on Rensch Road positions it conveniently close to the University at Buffalo's North Campus, making it a potentially suitable choice for prospective students, visiting faculty, or families attending university events. The surrounding area is typical of a suburban setting, characterized by commercial establishments and residential zones, rather than scenic landscapes. The focus of the environment is on ease of access to local points of interest, including the university and other amenities in the Amherst region, such as shopping and dining options. While not a destination in itself for its immediate surroundings, its proximity to key Buffalo-Amherst area facilities is a central aspect of its appeal.
The services offered at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott generally aim to provide a streamlined and consistent guest experience. Guests are typically provided with complimentary breakfast, which often includes a variety of hot and cold options. However, some customer reviews have described the breakfast at this specific location as "horrible" or "the worst Marriott breakfast," suggesting potential inconsistencies in quality. The hotel also typically offers free Wi-Fi, a standard amenity for modern travelers. Issues with front desk staffing and customer service have been raised in customer feedback, with reports of "no one was ever at the front desk" and staff being "unprofessional and unknowledgeable." Instances of billing discrepancies and difficulties in resolving them, as noted in reviews concerning "a $2k mix up" and charges being "tripled," indicate potential challenges in the service delivery at this specific location.
The features of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Buffalo Amherst/University are designed to meet basic lodging needs for both leisure and business travelers. Guest rooms are generally equipped with standard amenities such as a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, and a desk. While some reviews mention comfortable beds, there was a specific complaint about a "bed sunk in" and "yellow stains everywhere" on the duvet, which indicates potential inconsistencies in room maintenance or cleanliness. Hot water issues were also reported in a significant number of rooms by one guest, with "Seven out of the eleven rooms we occupied had hot water issues." These details suggest that while standard features are present, their consistent quality and maintenance may vary. The hotel typically provides an indoor pool and a fitness center, offering recreational options for guests. The general branding of Fairfield Inn & Suites emphasizes reliability and comfort, providing a consistent experience across locations, although individual property management can influence specific guest experiences. Marriott properties generally have standard check-in and check-out procedures, but the reviews suggest that execution at this particular location might be problematic, with one guest stating it "took us forever to check in" and having to "leave the keys at the desk because no one was there" at check-out.
Promotional information for Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, in general, focuses on aspects like complimentary breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and comfortable rooms, positioned as a reliable choice for value-conscious travelers. Specific promotions for this Buffalo Amherst/University location would likely align with broader Marriott marketing efforts, which often include loyalty program benefits for Marriott Bonvoy members, and potential discounts for booking directly through their channels. The hotel's proximity to the University at Buffalo is a strong selling point for targeted marketing campaigns, aiming to attract visitors to the university. However, the available customer feedback indicates that the actual guest experience might not always align with the brand's intended level of service and quality. The severe negative feedback from multiple guests regarding billing issues, poor customer service, and inconsistent room quality (e.g., stained bedding, hot water problems, unpleasant odors in other contexts for similar properties) suggests that prospective guests should exercise caution and potentially verify current conditions or policies when considering this specific property.
In summary, while Fairfield Inn & Suites Buffalo Amherst/University is positioned conveniently for access to the University at Buffalo and other local amenities, and theoretically offers standard hotel features like breakfast, an indoor pool, and a fitness center, the provided customer reviews indicate significant issues with service, billing accuracy, and room quality that prospective guests should be aware of. May 14, 2025 · Melissa CauseyBrought my team to stay there for several nights and experienced poor service. Upon arrival I was told something different about my bill than what was actually billed. This wasn't a minor error - it's more than a $2k mix up. I didn't bother to double check while we were there because I assumed the hired was as competent as they spoke. I am an averaged sized person and the bed sunk in. Not to the mention the duvet had yellow stains everywhere. Seven out of the eleven rooms we occupied had hot water issues. We probably experienced the worst Marriott breakfast. I attempted to call the front desk as they allowed kids to use the hallways as a racetrack all night while playing ding dong ditch on my team while we have important matches during our visit. My collegiate athletic department attempts to exclusively stay with Marriott, but we will be looking elsewhere. For how much my department spends, we've glossed over too much from Marriott's this year to keep continuity. But this billing issue is straw that broke the camels back. If I could put zero stars, I would.
Feb 24, 2025 · Devin WalkerWe made this reservation for a weekend getaway. We booked after calling to confirm they had a working pool and hot tub. We called again the day before check-in to make sure they were still in working order. The front desk clerk said they were. When we checked in, we asked about the hours that the pool and hot tub were open. We went to our room, ordered dinner, ate and then changed into our swimwear. We went down to the pool area only to find a sign that said the hot tub was under maintenance. It was clear that it had not been used recently. By this time, it was too late to and would have been too cumbersome to try to get a refund & find another hotel with a hot tub. We felt that we should at the very least, be reimbursed some reward points since that was the sole reason we chose the hotel. Had we been given honest and accurate information when we called or upon check-in, we would have chosen a different one in the area. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and were very much looking forward to the hot tub to sooth our muscles after dinner and a long day of riding bicycles. We contacted the management and were simply given an apology. They only wanted to know “who you spoke to that may have provided the spa/pool information so we may take corrective measures.” We were never offered any part of a refund or reward points for the inconvenience. An apology is not enough when we specifically called and asked your staff more than once and was told the hot tub was open. The hot tub was the sole reason we chose this hotel. Don’t believe what they say and don’t expect good customer service. Marriott used to be a name you could count on for having your satisfaction guaranteed, but not anymore!
Apr 02, 2025 · T SueThe only thing I wish they had here was all-day coffee service. They do provide a coffee maker in the room, but it's never quite the same. Great place, room, staff. Breakfast is served in the am.
May 13, 2025 · Hollie SandersonAn average hotel close to the UB campus. Hotel was clean, quick service, wallet key card worked fine and continental breakfast was good (waffles were a hit). Plenty of close parking and very close to the college and a short drive to restaurants. A lot of small issues that added up to make this just an ok stay. Remote for the tv didn’t work, bathroom fan sounded like a train and the sink was clogged. The shower sprayed water from the connection all over the room (I tightened it after the water warmed up and it was fine) and the ice machine on our floor was broken. I will look at other alternatives the next time I stay in the area.
