You can reach them at (413) 549-6000 or +1 413-549-6000 for inquiries and reservations.
Hotel UMass boasts an undeniable advantage in its location. Being literally on the UMass Amherst campus, it provides immediate access to academic buildings, speaking venues, and various campus amenities. This is a significant draw for anyone whose destination is the university itself, eliminating the need for extensive travel once you arrive. While the hotel’s direct surroundings are primarily academic, it offers a distinct collegiate atmosphere. Guests can easily walk to campus landmarks like the Mullins Center and the UMass Fine Arts Center. The hotel is integrated into the Campus Center, which means you might find other campus facilities like a food court in the basement, offering additional dining options, albeit potentially at a price point that some reviews note as high for the value. While the immediate vicinity is campus-focused, exploring further afield into downtown Amherst or nearby Northampton would require a car, or utilizing the local bus system which is available, though expect some walking.
Hotel UMass provides a range of services designed for a comfortable stay. The service quality is generally very good, with friendly and helpful staff noted by guests. The front desk operates 24 hours, ensuring assistance is always available. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided throughout the hotel, allowing guests to stay connected. For dining, the hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast, which, while described as "okay but limited" and "American heavy sugar" by some, includes options like bagels, bread, a toaster, waffles, and yogurt. There is also an on-site restaurant, The Commonwealth, which serves lunch and dinner, and a coffee shop/cafe for lighter fare. A bar/lounge is also available for guests to unwind. Limited room service is also offered. For those driving, secured self-parking is available for a fee of approximately $6 per night. Guests also have access to a nearby health club or the campus recreation center, though it is located about 0.4 miles away. Other amenities include a library, coffee/tea in a common area, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services (though note that guest laundry facilities are not on-site; the closest coin-op laundry is nearly 2 miles away). Rooms typically include a 37-inch LCD TV with premium cable channels, an iPod docking station, a coffee/tea maker, iron/ironing board, and a hairdryer. While rooms are generally described as cozy and comfortable, it's worth noting that they may not have modern USB charging options, only traditional outlets.
A key feature of Hotel UMass is its integration within the university environment. This is perfect for those attending events, conferences, or visiting students and faculty. The rooms, while lacking some modern conveniences like USB ports or in-room laundry, are designed for comfort and practicality. The accessibility to campus dining options, including the chance to get a 50% discount on fresh takeout right before closing from some on-campus food outlets, can be a valuable tip for budget-conscious travelers. The hotel also accommodates families with free cribs/infant beds and offers connecting/adjoining rooms. The hotel has undergone recent renovations, with the most recent noted in 2023, indicating an effort to maintain its facilities.
While Hotel UMass offers significant advantages due to its location, it's important for potential guests to consider certain aspects. Customer reviews indicate that the limited amenities, such as the lack of in-room modern USB charging and on-site laundry, might not always justify a nightly rate that can exceed $200. The breakfast, while complimentary, is not extensive. However, the convenience of being on campus, the comfortable rooms, and the generally friendly and helpful staff are consistently highlighted as positives. For guests attending specific events at UMass Amherst, the proximity alone can outweigh some of the amenity limitations. Those traveling without a car should be prepared for reliance on the campus bus system and a fair amount of walking, as off-campus attractions are not immediately within reach on foot. If your primary purpose is deeply tied to the UMass Amherst campus, Hotel UMass remains a highly convenient and well-regarded option within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category.

Mar 30, 2025 · Suraj YengdeLocation: If your destination is UMass Amherst then this is basically the only hotel option there is. Not that it is bad, it is a good hotel, but unless you have a car, there is nothing within reach that is worthwhile (they charge about $6 daily for parking if you do). They do have a good bus system, but expect a lot of walking. There are on-campus options ($20 for lunch/dinner at their cafeterias, a food court in the basement that is okay but again pricey for what it offers, etc.). If you go to the takeout "late" (ie right before closing) you may be able to get a 50% discount on fresh stuff. The limited amenities do not justify the price charged either. You can use the campus rec center, but it is .4 miles away. The rooms don't have modern USB charging options, only outlets. The breakfast is okay but limited but at least it is complimentary. There are no laundry options; the closest coin-op laundry is nearly 2 miles away. These things wouldn't be that big of a deal but they are when you are paying more than $200 a night. Service is very good; friendly staff.

Apr 03, 2025 · Jenna D'AntonaThe guest rooms at Hotel UMass were fine--roomy enough, clean, and comfortable enough for a pleasant night's sleep. Breakfast was acceptable, but the hotel has limited space for eating. The clerks were efficient and professional. The location--lawdy! If one is not familiar with the campus, as we are, then the hotel is a challenge to locate and an even larger challenge to find a place to park and even more challenging if a roof rack on top of a SUV makes it necessary to park outdoors. Be prepared to hump luggage up and down hills! If we ever need to over-night in Amherst again, we are giving this place a hard pass.
Sep 09, 2024 · Jayme HowlandNot great, particularly for the in-season price. The good is that the location is obviously ideal for anything Umass related. But the list of bad is very long: Rooms do not have a fridge unless you specifically ask for one. The thermostat does not go below 65 degrees, so you don't get to stay cool in the warm months. The TVs are pretty ancient and are not smart TVs. No notepad or pen were provided in the room. The bathroom: Tiny, the door is in the way of everything. The towels were very scratchy and not soft at all. The shower rack is useless everything falls off of it. They provide little bottles of shampoo and body lotion, but no conditioner or body wash for some reason. Overall, it was cleaner than a cheap motel, but not much nicer. As a Umass alumni, I am surprised they don't try harder to put their best foot forward with this hotel, especially considering it is supposed to represent the work of their own hospitality majors.
