Given the price and location of this hotel, I had much higher expectations for cleanliness and overall room quality. While parking isn't a huge issue—there's limited street parking, forcing you to either pay for valet or park across the street—what really stood out was the lack of cleanliness. I’ve included photos showing the poor state of the room, which was filthy. Most concerning, there was mold on the ceiling above the closet. Additionally, the elevator was in poor condition, with handprints all over the walls and garbage accumulating in the corners. The hotel does offer a Starbucks and a small restaurant, as well as an attached Jimmy D's, but that's about where the positives end. There’s no room service, and the TV was not a smart TV, so there were no streaming options like Netflix—just basic local cable. To top it off, I was promised a room with a water view, but I didn’t receive that, and honestly, I don’t even think a water view is available. Very strange. Considering the issues with cleanliness, amenities, and overall experience, I will not be staying here again and would not recommend it to others.
For those in Buffalo seeking accommodations under the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Hyatt Regency Buffalo / Hotel and Conference Center, located at Two Fountain Plaza, Buffalo, NY 14202, USA, presents itself as a significant option. While the provided address of "Richmond Avenue Porter Avenue South, Buffalo, NY 14201, USA" seems to be incorrect or an older listing, the primary and widely recognized address for the Hyatt Regency Buffalo is indeed Two Fountain Plaza, right in the heart of downtown. This hotel aims to provide a comprehensive experience for both business and leisure travelers, leveraging its central location and extensive facilities.
Environment and Location:
The Hyatt Regency Buffalo enjoys a prime and highly convenient location in downtown Buffalo, making it a central hub for various activities. Situated adjacent to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center, it is an ideal choice for convention attendees and business travelers. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of Buffalo's vibrant Theater District, including Shea's Performing Arts Center, and is close to numerous restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. Popular attractions such as the KeyBank Center, Canalside, and the Erie Basin Marina are also readily accessible, either by a short walk or via the nearby light rail train system. The hotel's position near Fountain Plaza contributes to a lively urban environment. While the location is generally praised for its convenience and safety, some guests have noted that the area can be quite active. Parking is a key consideration; the hotel offers valet parking for a fee ($29.50 per night) and provides self-parking options at the Owen B. Augspurger Ramp or an open lot directly across the street for a fee ($25.00 per night), both with in-and-out privileges. While self-parking is available, it might require a short walk, which can be inconvenient with luggage.
Services and Amenities:
The Hyatt Regency Buffalo strives to offer a full range of services to enhance the guest experience. The staff at the hotel, from the front desk to cleaning personnel, are frequently highlighted in reviews for their friendliness, helpfulness, and accommodating nature. The hotel features Genesee Public House, an on-site American bistro that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night bites, along with a well-stocked bar offering crafted cocktails, local craft beer, and New York State wines. There is also a Starbucks located within the hotel, providing convenient access to coffee and quick bites. However, it's worth noting that room service is not consistently available. For wellness and recreation, the hotel provides a 24-hour fitness center. While an indoor pool and spa are often listed as amenities for Hyatt Regency properties, direct specific confirmation and details for this Buffalo location regarding a spa are less prominent, but an indoor pool is typically available. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided throughout the hotel and in guest rooms. For business needs, the hotel boasts significant meeting and conference facilities, suitable for events of various sizes, with numerous meeting rooms and ballrooms. Other conveniences include luggage storage, an ATM/banking service, and accessibility features for guests with disabilities.
Features and Accommodations:
The Hyatt Regency Buffalo offers a variety of rooms and suites. While many guests praise the comfortable beds and the spaciousness of the rooms, some reviews indicate that the rooms, along with overall hotel areas like elevators, can appear dated and may be in need of refurbishment or more consistent deep cleaning. Concerns regarding cleanliness, including stained walls, worn carpets, and even mold, have been raised by some guests. Rooms typically feature a 65-inch flat-screen TV, though some guests have noted these are not "smart TVs," limiting streaming options to basic local cable. Each room also includes a work desk, coffee maker, minifridge, iron, and ironing board. Robes and slippers are available upon request. High-floor rooms and suites may offer impressive views of downtown Buffalo or Lake Erie, though "water view" promises have sometimes been unfulfilled according to some guest accounts. The hotel is pet-friendly, allowing up to two pets with weight limits (50 lbs for individual, 75 lbs combined) and a non-refundable pet fee. Accessible rooms with mobility features are also available.
Promotional Information and Value:
As a Hyatt property, the Hyatt Regency Buffalo participates in the World of Hyatt loyalty program. This program offers members exclusive benefits such as earning and redeeming points for free nights, member-exclusive rates, and access to various promotions. Guests can check the official Hyatt website or contact the hotel directly at (917) 623-5787 (if this is the current direct line) or (716) 856-1234 for the most up-to-date offers. Typical promotions might include seasonal discounts, packages combining stays with local attractions, and special rates for AAA and AARP members, as well as government/military and corporate travelers. World of Hyatt often runs global promotions allowing members to earn bonus points on eligible stays. While the hotel's prime location and brand name often command a certain price point, the value perception can vary based on individual guest experiences with room condition and amenity availability. Guests are advised to carefully consider recent reviews regarding cleanliness and maintenance, especially given the price, and to confirm specific room features or views when booking. Leveraging World of Hyatt membership can often lead to better rates and additional perks.
In summary, the Hyatt Regency Buffalo / Hotel and Conference Center offers a highly advantageous downtown Buffalo location with a range of amenities including on-site dining and a fitness center. Its staff are consistently praised for their service. However, potential guests should set expectations regarding the modernity and upkeep of rooms, and be aware of the paid parking options. It remains a viable choice for those prioritizing a central location and specific amenities provided by the Hyatt brand, while acknowledging that some aspects of the property may not meet the highest contemporary standards.
