I wanted to book a nice get away for my husbands birthday. Mansion on Delaware was recommended, so I looked it up and read about each room. I called and asked for a premium grand room. To say I was excited for this weekend was an understatement. That was until we got there and saw the room. We walked in and I was completely disappointed. I went down stairs and asked the women at the front desk if I had booked a premium room with a fire place. She kindly looked it up and said “yes you did”. I said “ok well on the website it advertises that premium grand rooms have fire places”. She took a look to see if there was another option to which there wasn’t and her response was “unfortunately at this time we are booked, but not all premium grand rooms have a fire place, and not all the fire places work.” To much of my surprise I told her that the website was very miss leading”. I then asked her about the butler service and saw something about a car service. She replied that the car service was no longer provided since they have been under new management for 2 years. Ok not a problem. My irritation is new management has been involved for 2 years and the website has yet to be updated as to what the rooms offer. The room was freezing cold. We turned the heat up from 68 to 72. We had left for about 4 hours. When we got back, the room did not heat up at all. It took until the next morning to get up to 71. Thank goodness we had an extra blanket. It is also advertised that we get a multi head shower, which is also false is there is only one shower head. When we got back to the room, we thought taking a hot shower would help warm us up. The water was lukewarm to cold. Our toilet stopped working as well at one point. I understand that this is an old building, I personally think there needs to be carpeting or something extra in the rooms to make them warmer. The website needs to be updated because what is said is not what you get. I have provided pictures of what is advertised, what I thought our room was going to include and what I book (premium grand room )vs. what grand queen and classic room is and that is basically what we ended up with. My husband and I made the best out of the trip. But it definitely was not what I had anticipated.

The Mansion on Delaware Avenue Introduce

As a premier option within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, The Mansion on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, NY, stands as a distinctive and appealing choice for local users seeking a luxurious and unique stay. Located at 414 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, NY 14202, USA, and reachable at (716) 886-3300 or +1 716-886-3300, this historic boutique hotel offers a blend of old-world charm and contemporary comforts, making it a compelling destination for various occasions, from romantic getaways to group stays and special events.

Environment and Ambiance:

The Mansion on Delaware Avenue is housed in a meticulously restored George Allison-designed Second Empire structure, originally built in 1869. This historic building, once known as "The House of Light" due to its numerous windows, is registered with the Historical Society for the preservation of its 19th-century American Gothic Second Empire design. The architecture itself is a defining feature, with its mansard roof, porticos, and grand rounded windows. The hotel exudes an atmosphere of refined elegance, combining classic luxury with sophisticated modern touches. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a grand residential countenance, lush city gardens, and a serene urban escape right in the heart of downtown Buffalo. The common areas, including the lobby lounge, bar, and billiards room, are designed to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere, often featuring fireplaces and carefully selected art that celebrates Buffalo's creative spirit. Some recent renovations have introduced a fresh look to certain areas, though some guests note that some rooms may still retain a more traditional, perhaps less "cozy" feel as they are updated.

The interior boasts high ceilings, intricate plaster moldings, and hand-milled black walnut or white oak wainscoting, reflecting its opulent past. The property maintains a balance between preserving its historical integrity and incorporating modern conveniences. Guests can appreciate the historical significance of the building while enjoying contemporary comforts. The location on Delaware Avenue, part of what was once known as "Millionaire's Row," contributes to its upscale and charming environment, placing it within walking distance of key downtown attractions.

Services and Amenities:

The Mansion on Delaware Avenue prides itself on offering unparalleled amenities and personalized services. A standout feature is its signature 24-hour butler service. These "new-fashioned butlers" are trained to cater to guests' every need, from making restaurant reservations with pairing recommendations to arranging private excursions. They offer thoughtful touches like turn-down service, champagne service, and assistance with various requests. It is important to note, however, that while some older information might mention a car service within a 3-mile radius, recent customer feedback indicates that this particular service may no longer be consistently provided under the current management. Guests are advised to confirm specific services directly with the hotel.

For dining, guests can enjoy a complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast served daily from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM, which is frequently praised by guests for its freshness and deliciousness, with options like French toast and breakfast sandwiches. There is also a bar/lounge on-site, offering complimentary evening cocktails nightly, as well as a coffee and tea bar in common areas. While there isn't a full-service restaurant for lunch or dinner, guests can enjoy in-room dining (24-hour room service) or have butlers plate and serve delivery from local restaurants in spaces like the Billiards Salon, providing flexibility for dining preferences.

Other general amenities include complimentary self-parking on-site, free in-room Wi-Fi (with a reported speed of 250+ Mbps, suitable for multiple devices), and wired internet access. The hotel also features a 24-hour fitness center, an art gallery on-site showcasing local craftspeople, and a serene garden. Concierge services, dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and a 24-hour front desk are also available. For those planning special events, the Mansion offers wedding services and boasts versatile meeting and event spaces, including the Grand Salon and Library, which can accommodate various group sizes for both seated and stationed affairs, making it a popular choice for intimate and grand events alike.

Features:

The Mansion on Delaware Avenue offers 28 individually decorated guest rooms and suites, each with a unique character. Standard room features typically include climate-controlled air conditioning and heating, 42-inch LED TVs with premium channels, coffee/tea makers, and designer toiletries, bathrobes, and hair dryers. Many rooms feature high ceilings and historical architectural details, adding to the Mansion's charm. While the website may advertise certain features like fireplaces and multi-head showers in specific room types, recent reviews suggest that the presence and functionality of these amenities can vary. For instance, not all premium grand rooms may have a functional fireplace, and some rooms advertised with multi-head showers might only have a single shower head. Guests are strongly encouraged to contact the hotel directly to confirm specific room features when booking a particular room category to avoid disappointment.

Rooms are generally furnished to offer a comfortable stay, with amenities such as hypo-allergenic bedding, blackout drapes, and the option for connecting rooms, catering to both individual travelers and groups. While the building is historic, the hotel aims to provide modern comforts. However, some guest feedback indicates that certain rooms might experience issues with heating consistency or water temperature, which guests should be aware of. The overall design emphasizes a blend of historic charm with contemporary luxury, with each room offering a distinct experience.

Promotional Information and Guest Experiences:

The Mansion on Delaware Avenue actively promotes itself as a distinctive luxury hotel offering "new-fashioned butlers" and an experience that combines Buffalo's rich history with modern sophistication. Their motto, "Our Hotel is Your Hotel," encapsulates their commitment to personalized service and making guests feel at home. The hotel emphasizes its prime location, steps away from great restaurants, theater venues like Shea's Performing Arts Center, and other downtown attractions, making it a convenient base for exploring Buffalo. Its status as Buffalo Niagara's first and only AAA rated Four Diamond hotel also serves as a significant promotional point, highlighting its commitment to high standards of service and quality.

Guest reviews consistently praise the staff for their exceptional friendliness, attentiveness, and willingness to go above and beyond, making stays memorable for many. The complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast and evening cocktails are frequently highlighted as excellent perks. Guests often appreciate the unique ambiance of staying in a historic mansion and the overall quiet atmosphere despite its downtown location. Many couples recommend it for romantic getaways or special occasions.

However, an objective introduction also necessitates addressing areas where guest experiences might fall short of expectations based on current information. As noted in customer reviews, there have been instances where advertised room features (such as functional fireplaces or specific shower types) were not present or fully operational in the booked room. Similarly, the previous car service within a 3-mile radius, while advertised in some older materials, appears to have been discontinued for about two years under new management, and the website may not be fully updated to reflect these changes. Some guests have also mentioned concerns regarding room warmth or water temperature in older parts of the building, suggesting that while renovations are ongoing, certain rooms may still require further attention. Therefore, while The Mansion on Delaware Avenue offers a generally positive and luxurious experience, potential guests should consider confirming specific room amenities and services directly with the hotel to ensure their expectations are met.

We were coming in town from Texas for my husband’s 60th Birthday. We had a group of 9 pp. My husband and I have stayed at the Mansion before and thought this would be a great place for all of us to stay at this boutique hotel due to the coziness and the proximity of it being close to the area we wanted to stay in. We had nothing but a great experience . Starting from the staff to the service we had experienced and how accommodating they were. We did notice that some rooms were renovated which we knew the hotel was going through renovations but that is a good thing . The new rooms just lacked some coziness but understood it was coming along . The staff went above and beyond to make us and our friends stay very memorable . The breakfast every morning was very fresh and delicious ! The one way I can describe this hotel is “Our Hotel is Your Hotel” Can’t wait to come back . Thank You

The hotel is beautiful and above that is the staff. They are very attentive and helpful to make your stay the best ever. They made my first time in Buffalo memorable. I will come back and I will stay here.

Ok great service and beautiful hotel but this place is definitely haunted. I woke up at 1 Am to my automatic closet light, lighting up multiple times. Others then that, breakfast was good and it is a decent downtown location.

Had a rocky start to my stay: my room wasn't cleaned from the last tenant (found a dirty washcloth in the bathroom) and then I got locked out once they did clean the room (had to get new keys). Front desk staff acted quickly to resolve my issues. I would have liked an additional complimentary drink or something similar for the inconvenience, though. Minus one star for the room and getting locked out afterwards. Great location, walking distance from a bunch of restaurants. Parking lot available across the street for patrons. Beautiful building. Room was perfect and faced a quiet street. Staff is attentive and friendly. They were willing to work with me in case I needed to stay an extra day, which was nice. Overall, I'd recommend. Just check your room and keys first before you settle in.
