I visited my son in Buffalo May 9-12, 2025 and booked the Lenox at his suggestion. The hotel was built in 1896 and has an antiquated radiator heating system which is difficult to regulate. Upon first entering the room, it was stiflingly hot. I turned off the heat and requested a fan and was told they do not have any fans. Air conditioning was not yet turned on for the season. I attempted to open a window and they were painted shut. My room was 812 which faces east and receives direct morning sunlight. There are no curtains in the room so the morning sun is blinding. Forget sleeping past 6:30 am (even with a sleep mask)! The restaurant is closed down and there are no other amenities besides a snack machine in the basement. I do not recommend this hotel and would pay more to stay elsewhere on my next visit.

Lenox Hotel & Suites Introduce

For those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Buffalo, NY, the Lenox Hotel & Suites offers a unique proposition as a historic property with a prime location. Situated at 140 North St, Buffalo, NY 14201, USA, the hotel can be contacted at (716) 884-1700 or via mobile at +1 716-884-1700. As a building constructed in 1896, the Lenox Hotel carries a distinct character and history, which influences both its charm and some of its practical aspects.

Environment and Ambiance

The Lenox Hotel & Suites embodies the architectural style and essence of a bygone era. Its historic nature means guests will encounter elements that differ from modern hotel constructions. The building itself is old, contributing to a unique ambiance that can appeal to those who appreciate historic structures. While it provides a sense of stepping back in time, this also translates to certain infrastructure limitations. For instance, it features an "antiquated radiator heating system which is difficult to regulate." Guests have reported rooms being "stiflingly hot" and the inability to open windows, as they are "painted shut." Furthermore, air conditioning is not always active seasonally, which can lead to discomfort during warmer periods. Despite these challenges, the hotel generally maintains a clean environment within its rooms. One guest noted that their "room was very clean," and there was "no evidence of bed bugs," which are crucial aspects for any hotel stay. The common areas, including the parking lot, are monitored with cameras, contributing to a sense of security.

However, the overall dated nature of the hotel is a recurring theme, with the elevator specifically mentioned as "old but worked no problem." While some guests find this charming and part of the hotel's character, others might perceive it as a sign of needing updates. The hotel’s proximity to downtown Buffalo means it's located in an urban setting, which offers convenience but also means guests are immersed in city life rather than a secluded retreat.

Services and Guest Experience

The Lenox Hotel & Suites operates with a focus on providing basic, yet essential, services for its guests. The front desk service generally receives positive remarks, with one reviewer stating that "the service at the front desk was great." This suggests that guests can expect friendly and helpful interactions with staff, which is a significant factor in overall satisfaction. The hotel is pet-friendly, allowing pets for an extra charge, which is a valuable service for travelers with companions. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided, enabling guests to stay connected. Laundry facilities are available on-site for guest use, adding convenience for longer stays. The hotel also has an ATM and provides luggage storage. For business travelers, fax and photocopying services are available. While the hotel once featured a restaurant, current reviews indicate that "The restaurant is closed down." Other amenities are reportedly limited to a "snack machine in the basement." This means guests should not expect extensive on-site dining or recreational facilities. The ability to manage heating and cooling, particularly the lack of fans and seasonally activated air conditioning, can be a major challenge for guest comfort, as highlighted by a guest who "forgot sleeping past 6:30 am" due to direct morning sunlight and no curtains.

Features and In-Room Amenities

The rooms at Lenox Hotel & Suites are described as clean, though they reflect the hotel's historic nature and can be "very dated." Standard in-room amenities typically include a flat-screen TV with cable channels, free Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom with a shower/tub combination and complimentary toiletries. Rooms are air-conditioned, though the seasonal activation of the system has been a point of concern. The presence of radiators is a clear indicator of the building's age, and their regulation can be a challenge for guests. A notable absence in some rooms, as reported, is the lack of curtains, which can lead to "blinding" morning sun and affect sleep quality. Windows being "painted shut" also prevents natural ventilation. Despite these issues, the fundamental cleanliness of the rooms is a positive aspect that guests have acknowledged. Some rooms might be equipped with a microwave and refrigerator, which would be beneficial for guests planning longer stays, but this information is not consistently available in reviews. The hotel also offers suites, which typically provide more space and potentially additional amenities suitable for an extended stay.

Promotional Information and Location Advantages

The Lenox Hotel & Suites' primary promotional advantage lies in its strategic location in Buffalo. It is situated in the heart of downtown Buffalo, offering excellent walkability to many key attractions and districts. Its proximity to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus makes it a practical choice for visitors with appointments or those working at the medical facilities. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of the vibrant Allentown and Elmwood Village neighborhoods, known for their unique shops, diverse restaurants, and lively nightlife. This allows guests to immerse themselves in Buffalo's local culture and cuisine without needing to drive.

For those interested in exploring further, the hotel offers convenient access to Buffalo's main attractions, such as the KeyBank Center, Sahlen Field, and various museums and cultural institutions. Niagara Falls, a major international tourist destination, is also within a reasonable driving distance, making the hotel a potential base for a day trip to the falls. The Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) is accessible via a short drive. The hotel provides free self-parking, which is a significant advantage for guests traveling with a vehicle, as parking in urban areas can often be costly. While the hotel's historical nature presents certain quirks and limitations, its budget-friendly pricing, combined with its central location and commitment to cleanliness, makes it a viable option for travelers who prioritize accessibility and cost over modern amenities and extensive on-site facilities. However, prospective guests are strongly advised to consider the detailed reviews regarding heating/cooling, window functionality, and amenity limitations to ensure their expectations align with what the hotel currently offers.

This is an old hotel in a great location. If you're looking for a place just to sleep for a night, this hotel was great and the price was right. This was our 2nd time staying here, and although I had some concerns about some recent reviews I read, we had no issues. They have cameras on the parking lot, and there was no evidence of bed bugs. It is a very dated hotel, the elevator is old but worked no problem. Our room was very clean and the service at the front desk was great. Would stay here again.

This hotel is historic, and beautiful. It is one of those places where you wish you could've been there, during its Prime. Would definitely stay again. Very quiet rooms, very comfortable. Love the fact that I could actually open a window. Room 845 had a beautiful view of the skyline.

There’s a few pros and cons. Let’s go first with the pros. Great location, there’s a pharmacy close where you can get basic stuff that you may need. The receptionist was very nice and helpful. Our room was clean with clean towels and sheets. The cons.. it’s a very old building that is both hotel and apartment rentals so you may find people hanging around. The receptionist told me that the parking lot is not secure. There was not even a water bottle in the fridge which I really think it should be mandatory in all hotels. Our room had a locked door that seems to connect to another room. That room from the hallway had a very weird symbol hanging which made us feel weird. I’m not sure we would stay there again
