The room was incredibly depressing. The strong smell of cleanser kept me awake for hours as I tossed and turned on the poly sheets. Utterly creepy. One of the worst nights of my life. $155 a night!!馃ぎ RUN.

Hylan Inn Introduce

For local users exploring the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Hylan Inn, located at 1274 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10305, USA, is a lodging option that appears to position itself as a basic, budget-friendly motel. However, based on the provided customer reviews, prospective guests should exercise extreme caution and be fully aware of the significant concerns raised by previous visitors. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview, integrating the limited available information with the highly critical feedback to offer a realistic picture for anyone considering a stay.

Environment: A Busy Boulevard Location

The Hylan Inn is situated on Hylan Boulevard, one of Staten Island's longest and busiest commercial thoroughfares. This location places it in a well-trafficked area with access to various local businesses, including restaurants, convenience stores, and other retail establishments. Guests staying here would find themselves in a more urbanized, commercial environment typical of a major road. While this offers convenience in terms of accessibility to amenities, it also implies a certain level of ambient noise from traffic and commercial activity.

Hylan Boulevard stretches across a significant portion of Staten Island, connecting different neighborhoods and providing access to major transportation routes. From this location, guests can access local bus lines that run along the boulevard, potentially connecting them to other parts of the island, including the Staten Island Ferry Terminal for a free ride to Manhattan. Driving would offer more flexibility for exploring the island's parks, historical sites, or reaching the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge for access to Brooklyn. Proximity to local beaches, such as South Beach or Midland Beach, might also be a draw, as they are relatively close to Hylan Boulevard. However, the immediate surroundings of the inn itself are likely dominated by the commercial nature of the boulevard.

Services: Minimalist and Potentially Problematic

Information regarding specific services offered by the Hylan Inn is very limited from the provided reviews. As a basic motel, one would typically expect minimal services, likely including:

  • Front Desk: Likely a 24-hour front desk or one with extended hours for check-in and check-out.
  • Basic Cleaning: Rooms would be cleaned between guests, but the depth and consistency of this service are severely questioned by customer reviews.
  • Parking: Motels of this type often provide on-site parking for guests, though the specific availability or security is not detailed.

However, the customer reviews strongly suggest significant deficiencies in service quality and guest experience. The phrase "The strong smell of cleanser kept me awake for hours" indicates an attempt at cleaning, but one that is overwhelming and detrimental to guest comfort. The overall sentiment of "RUN" and "One of the worst nights of my life" implies a profound dissatisfaction with the environment and possibly the responsiveness of staff, although direct interactions with staff are not detailed in the provided snippets. The absence of specific positive comments on service, coupled with the dire negative feedback, paints a concerning picture of the guest support.

Features: Significant Concerns Regarding Room Condition

The features of the rooms at Hylan Inn are the most critical point of concern, based on the customer reviews. The descriptions paint a picture of rooms that are not only unappealing but potentially unsanitary and uncomfortable:

  • Depressing Rooms: Reviewers repeatedly used the word "depressing" to describe the rooms, indicating a poor aesthetic and perhaps a general lack of maintenance or inviting decor.
  • Overpowering Chemical Odor: The "strong smell of cleanser" that kept a guest awake suggests an excessive use of cleaning chemicals, possibly to mask other odors, and clearly made the room uncomfortable to inhabit.
  • "Poly Sheets": The mention of "poly sheets" suggests low-quality, potentially uncomfortable bedding material.
  • Bed Bug Bags and Mattress/Pillow Concerns: The most alarming feature mentioned is that "mattresses and pillows were covered in bed bug bags." This explicitly indicates a history or current concern with bed bugs, and the presence of such bags is a significant red flag for any potential guest regarding hygiene and pest control. Even if the bags are a preventative measure, their visibility creates immense discomfort and suspicion.
  • High Price for Value: The quoted price of "$155 a night!!" accompanied by "Utterly creepy" and "馃ぎ" strongly implies a severe disconnect between the cost and the perceived value or quality of the accommodation.

General motel room features typically include a bed, private bathroom, TV, and air conditioning/heating. However, the provided reviews focus almost entirely on the negative aspects of these features, overshadowing any standard inclusions. The lack of positive commentary on room features further solidifies the impression of a sub-par accommodation.

Promotional Information: Caution Advised for Local Users

Given the extremely negative and alarming nature of the customer reviews, any "promotional information" for the Hylan Inn would typically be challenged by objective reality. While the hotel may advertise itself as an affordable or convenient option on Staten Island, prospective guests, especially local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me," are strongly advised to heed the warnings from previous customers.

Hotels typically use promotions such as:

  • Budget-Friendly Rates: The price point of $155 per night, however, was explicitly deemed "insane" by a reviewer given the conditions, suggesting that even if positioned as affordable, it does not offer value.
  • Convenient Location: Its location on Hylan Boulevard might be promoted for accessibility to transportation and local amenities.
  • Basic Amenities: Standard advertising might mention free Wi-Fi, parking, or perhaps a TV, though the reviews don't support a positive experience with these.

However, the severe issues reported, particularly the strong smells, depressing atmosphere, and the very concerning mention of "bed bug bags," are critical factors that override typical promotional appeals. For any local user considering the Hylan Inn, it is paramount to understand that these are serious allegations from real customers. It is highly recommended to:

  • Read Recent Reviews Extensively: Look for more recent reviews on various platforms to see if these critical issues have been addressed.
  • Contact Directly: Call the hotel at (718) 979-7000 or +1 718-979-7000 to inquire about specific room conditions, recent renovations, and pest control measures. However, be aware that self-reported information may not fully reflect reality.
  • Consider Alternatives: Given the severity of the negative feedback, exploring other lodging options in Staten Island or nearby boroughs that have consistently positive reviews might be a more prudent choice for a comfortable and hygienic stay.

Ultimately, the Hylan Inn appears to be a property where potential savings in price may come at a significant cost to comfort, hygiene, and overall guest satisfaction, as indicated by the strong warnings from past visitors.

For the couple of hours I stayed for rest and personal, it was clean ,cozy, big TV, good channels, shower bathtub, could use a modern shower head, the one they have serves its purpose. I enjoyed the stay. Ice available, good service. The attendant was very polite. Thank you.

I definately would bot recommend anyone to stay here at this hell hole. The manager is nasty and rude and the rooms have bed bugs. Don't waste your money for a dirty bed bug house
