Location was perfect. The owner (Gary) was nice enough. However, I will not be returning. The smell of the room was terrible, small stained towels, the light in the bathroom stopped working the first day, the beds were not comfortable, the sheets and pillows felt like cardboard. We did get locked out and he opened the door for us, very nice. It was late at night. We also lost the key and was charged 450$. I get we lost the key we should pay, BUT 450$????

Long Beach Motor Inn Introduce

For those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the iconic coastal community of York Beach, Maine, the Long Beach Motor Inn stands as a unique and authentic option. Located at 271 Long Beach Avenue, York Beach, ME 03910, USA, this establishment offers a distinctive "page out of the past history book," providing what many guests describe as "honest, real accommodations" that resonate with a long-standing love for the sea. Operated by Gary Grossman and his mother, Thelma Grossman, since its opening in 1978, the inn embodies a commitment to traditional hospitality and a steadfast charm that sets it apart.

Environment and Location

The environment of the Long Beach Motor Inn is defined by its enviable location directly across from Long Sands Beach. This prime spot offers guests immediate "quick access to the beach," allowing them to easily enjoy the "fine hard-packed sand beach" and the "gentle roar of the Atlantic waves." Many rooms offer "ocean views," providing a constant connection to the sea and the opportunity to witness "glowing ocean sunrises" and "the shimmering reflection of the stars and the moon" at night. In the distance, both Boon Island Light and the famous Nubble Lighthouse are in full view, adding to the picturesque scenery.

Despite its beachfront position, the inn is praised for its "quiet, comfortable, and friendly surroundings." The property spans 2 acres of "beautifully landscaped – rock-studded rolling lawns," creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. It features a seasonal outdoor pool with sun loungers and pool umbrellas, a badminton court, shuffleboard, tetherball, and BBQ areas, offering ample outdoor recreation. The setting, complemented by "yearly 9000 annual begonias" and gazebos, fosters a tranquil and relaxed coastal experience, away from the immediate bustle of the most crowded areas of York Beach, yet still convenient to them.

Services and Amenities

The Long Beach Motor Inn offers 32 individually decorated and furnished guestrooms, prioritizing comfort and convenience for a traditional motel stay. A significant feature of many accommodations is the presence of "spacious efficiency units" or kitchenettes, which come equipped with a refrigerator, stovetop (two-burner), microwave, coffee/tea maker, cooking exhaust fan, and dinnerware/cookware for stays of 7 nights or longer. This allows guests the flexibility to prepare their own meals, potentially saving on dining expenses, as noted by the owners.

All rooms are designed for comfort, featuring air conditioning, ceiling fans, and individually controlled electric heat. Entertainment is provided by 32-inch LCD televisions with satellite channels and complimentary wireless Internet access, ensuring guests can stay connected. Bathrooms are private and include shower/tub combinations, free toiletries (shampoo, soap, toilet paper), and hair dryers. Some rooms may have an in-room safe and iron/ironing board. The inn prides itself on "daily housekeeping services," ensuring a clean and tidy room throughout the visit.

Key on-site amenities include the "seasonal outdoor pool," which is solar-heated and typically open from 9 AM to 9 PM (Memorial Day to Labor Day). The grounds offer a picnic area, charcoal grills, and outdoor furniture for guest use. Complimentary self-parking is available, with each room receiving one designated numeric parking location. Extended parking may be available for a surcharge. The front desk operates during limited hours (typically 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM), requiring guests to contact the property in advance for late check-in arrangements. The inn has a strict non-smoking policy throughout all rooms and outdoor grounds. While the property generally does not allow pets, it is important to confirm specific policies, as some sources may indicate variations.

Features and Highlights

The most striking feature of the Long Beach Motor Inn is its dedication to providing a "piece of past history" with "honest, real accommodations." Unlike many modern hotels, it consciously retains a classic, colonial motel aesthetic from its 1978 opening, offering a nostalgic and charming experience that resonates deeply with guests seeking a less commercialized stay. As one review eloquently states, "This resort is a page out of the past history book. Honest, real accommodations with only a piece of history that Gary provides. Things done the way they should be done. He doesn't change for popular demand but demands unchanged for his guests that seek what he offers."

The personalized service provided by the owner, Gary Grossman, and his family, is a consistent highlight. Guests describe him as "nice enough" and "very nice" in challenging situations, and his business approach, rooted in respect and tradition, is highly valued by a loyal customer base. The "clean and cozy" nature of the rooms, despite being "not luxury," is often emphasized, particularly the comfortable beds and the functional kitchenettes. The tranquil atmosphere, complemented by the ocean breeze and waves, contributes to a truly relaxing stay.

The inn's policies, such as the preference for longer stays (7 consecutive days or more during peak season) and specific room assignments for families with children away from those without, contribute to the peaceful environment valued by its clientele. The owners' hands-on approach and dedication to maintaining the property's unique character create a sense of familiarity and "feeling like they're coming home" for many repeat guests.

Promotional Information and Guest Experience

The Long Beach Motor Inn, while not heavily promoting through typical online discount channels, often provides value through its unique offerings and pricing structure, particularly for longer stays. For instance, for the 2025 summer season (June 7 to September 1), they have announced a "Create your vacation week 2025!" promotion. This allows guests to choose any check-in and check-out day for a minimum of 7 consecutive days, with a promotional rate of $205.00 per night for specific first and second-floor accommodations (compared to normal rates of $290.00 and $300.00). This special offer is restricted to 100% non-smokers/vapers, requires cash payment only, and is non-transferable. It also applies to registered guests only, with visitors not permitted under this program.

Guests interested in specific promotional rates or availability should contact the Long Beach Motor Inn directly via phone at (207) 363-5481 or +1 207-363-5481. The emphasis on direct booking and the unique terms of their promotions reflect their commitment to their established clientele and their preferred operational model.

The overall guest experience at Long Beach Motor Inn is a distinct one. While some reviews might mention minor issues with older facilities, a significant number of guests express profound satisfaction and loyalty, praising the "quality resort" for its "quiet, comfortable, and friendly surroundings." The personal touch of the Grossman family and the feeling of stepping back in time to a simpler, more authentic Maine vacation are what truly resonate. For travelers seeking a genuinely "unchanged" and respectful coastal retreat with easy beach access, the Long Beach Motor Inn offers precisely "what we look for," making it a memorable and frequently revisited choice for "Hotels Near Of Me" in York Beach.

Unhappy at another facility real close to Gary's place made us experience this quality resort. Being a vacationer/now family at Long Beach Motor Inn is all due to Gary's Mom teaching him the right way to do business after coming to the USA from Quebec in the 70's. He has continued to let his mother shine in the exceptional way he carries himself, his unwavering business sense and his ability to treat his guests the way they treat him. Respect is number one in life. Unlike the rest of this fading world. Most believe in today's world that you should be able to expect things to be done your way. If you are older or experienced enough you would understand that this resort is a page out of the past history book. Honest, real accommodations with only a piece of history that Gary provides. Things done the way they should be done. He doesn't change for popular demand but demands unchanged for his guests that seek what he offers. If this resort is not the right fit for you so be it but for some it is what we look for. Quiet, comfortable, and friendly surroundings with an ocean breeze and the gentle roar of the Atlantic waves. Gary and Susan due to the tutelage of Gary's mom, they provide all that is necessary to rest and recover from the busy lifestyle any individual deals with. Kudos to the Grossman's for making Long Beach Motor Inn our kind of place for as long as time allows. John and Diane

We enjoyed our stay and Gary was very attentive and helpful. He is definitely a hard worker!! If you are looking for a place convenient to the beach and within walking distance to decent food etc than this is great fit. Room is clean and kids stayed entertained with the shuffle/tetherboard and pool. No drinks allowed in pool area which I found to be a little bonkers. We were asked to leave with our ice water but respected the rules. Would stay here again for sure!!!!!

NOTE: 5/5 REVIEWS ARE FROM ONE-TIME REVIEWERS, LIKELY FRIENDS. VERY MISLEADING* We paid top dollar to stay at this place because it is peak season to be here. We were here on an impromptu trip to visit family. We passed Long Sands Motor Inn several times before arriving because the lights on the sign were UNLIT! Once at the office, we let them know and were told they don't turn their sign lights on during the busy season. We were let into the office area and promptly CHASTISED for showing up outside the one-hour check-in window. (We MISTAKENLY set the wrong check-in time because the site used MILITARY TIME, thereby sending us there at 05:00 which is a very honest mistake, Mr. Grossman!!!) Gary also reprimanded us for using a third-party online booking app as it forces them to raise their rates to pay the fees they have to pay out for the reservations. We were kept in the office for what seemed like a long time —after a very grueling day with family — to get registered, as we were given all of the rules and regulations of the property, even given a slide presentation of all the hundreds of rules they have in place. We were told if we needed anything all we had to do was ask and it would be provided to us because they can't keep rooms stocked with these items. Also we would have to request a housekeeper because they wouldn't be automatically entering the rooms to clean them during the day. The proprietor then had to go into our room ahead of us in order to turn on the POWER for us. We just wanted to get into the room and relax. Once settling into our room we were in need of ice. Went back to the office to find out where the ice machine was, and told since Covid, the closest ice could be found somewhere down the road!!! (How does everyone else on Long Sands Beach deal with the ice situation 3 years post-Covid???) The next morning, I went to the office to ask for coffee for our IN-ROOM COFFEE MAKER! We were then told they "don't have a license to dispense coffee in the state of Maine!!!" Among the list of rules, if we went to the beach we were asked to rinse off with the hoses provided outside each room. This includes any beach chairs, etc. Then we were asked if we had any beach chairs in the car. (No, we responded, we are here to visit family and don’t have beach chairs.) The room, for the price, was very sub-standard. Seventies style wallpaper, furnishings, etc. Much worse, a very strong musty smell in the room, the carpet was damp. The small fridge was not cold enough to MAKE our own ice. *Be very careful to read the proprietor’s responses to any negative reviews. They openly denigrate their customers online and accuse them wrongly. Proprietors: Go watch your videos more carefully, and don’t make stuff up about your guests! For sure, this one wins as of the worst properties we ever visited.

My mother in law and I just stayed for 2 nights and three days. I honestly can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay! Our room was immaculate! Our beds, so comfortable we slept so soundly! And our host Gary was so accommodating with asking if we needed anything every time he saw us. He provides the most relaxing atmosphere for you that you feel like you are the only ones he’s catering too. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Can’t wait to make my next reservations!
