My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time at the York Harbour Inn. The staff at the front desk were exceptional and very accommodating. The room we stayed in was charming with our own Jacuzzi, fireplace (with provided clean burning log), and a comfortable bread. Everything felt very spacious. The view of the ocean was great, and we could hear the waves of the ocean crashing by opening a window. We ate in the restaurant and had a great time with great food. The staff in the restaurant were super nice as well. Overall we would recommend the York Harbour Inn to anyone looking for a nice little getaway in a nice little Maine town by the ocean.
For those navigating the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform in search of a sophisticated and enchanting coastal escape, the York Harbor Inn stands as a distinguished choice. Located at 480 York St, York Harbor, ME 03911, USA, this historic and elegant property offers a unique blend of classic New England charm, luxurious amenities, and breathtaking ocean views, making it a highly sought-after destination for romantic getaways, special events, and discerning travelers seeking a refined experience on the Maine coast.
The York Harbor Inn is nestled in the picturesque village of York Harbor, a serene and upscale part of York, Maine. Unlike the more bustling atmosphere of York Beach, York Harbor offers a quieter, more refined coastal experience, characterized by its charming harbor, historic architecture, and scenic coastal walks. The inn's location at 480 York Street provides stunning "view of the ocean" from many of its rooms and common areas, with guests able to "hear the waves of the ocean crashing by opening a window," a truly immersive coastal experience.
The surrounding environment is one of quintessential New England beauty, featuring rocky shorelines, elegant homes, and a sense of timeless tranquility. While York Harbor is peaceful, it remains conveniently close to various attractions. Guests can enjoy strolls along the Marginal Way Cliff Walk, explore the charming shops and galleries in Perkins Cove (a short drive), or visit the sandy expanses of Long Sands and Short Sands Beaches. The iconic Nubble Lighthouse is also within a reasonable driving distance. The inn's setting is ideal for those who appreciate a more intimate and sophisticated coastal experience, with opportunities for quiet reflection and scenic exploration.
The York Harbor Inn is not a single building but a collection of six distinct and charming buildings, each offering a unique character and selection of rooms and suites. This distributed layout allows for a variety of accommodation experiences, from historic charm to modern comfort. The buildings include the Main Inn, Harbor Hill Inn, Yorkshire Inn, Chapman Cottage, Harbor Cliffs, and the Carriage House. Many rooms and suites across these buildings are designed to provide a luxurious and romantic ambiance, featuring a range of amenities to enhance the guest experience.
Common features in many of the rooms and suites include:
Beyond these romantic amenities, rooms typically include a private bathroom, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and complimentary Wi-Fi. While one guest noted a room that was "unbearably too warm" initially, the staff quickly resolved the issue, suggesting that heating and cooling systems are responsive. Another guest mentioned that while the cleanliness was good, the "overall condition" compared to the price was a slight negative, indicating that while the charm is evident, some areas might show signs of age despite being well-maintained.
The various buildings offer different styles: Chapman Cottage features 12 stylish rooms, some with full ocean views, others with garden views, and many with gas fireplaces. Harbor Cliffs offers a secluded escape with panoramic ocean views, private decks, and most rooms with two-person Jacuzzi tubs and gas fireplaces. The Yorkshire Inn has 10 rooms, all with private baths, and a guest common room with a fireplace. The Main Inn, dating back to 1637, offers traditional New England charm. The Carriage House provides modern amenities with views of the York Harbor Village. This diversity ensures a wide range of options for discerning travelers.
The York Harbor Inn prides itself on delivering exceptional service, which is consistently highlighted in guest reviews. The "staff at the front desk were exceptional and very accommodating," and the "staff in the restaurant were super nice as well." This strong emphasis on customer service contributes significantly to a positive and welcoming guest experience. The prompt resolution of a room temperature issue demonstrates their commitment to guest satisfaction.
A key service offering is the on-site dining. The inn features an award-winning restaurant that is highly regarded by guests for its "great food" and "great time." This provides a convenient and high-quality dining experience without needing to leave the property. The "Sunday breakfast" situation, where it was moved to a smaller room, indicates that while the food itself was satisfactory, the presentation and comfort were affected by a larger event (Easter brunch). This suggests that while core services are strong, guests should be aware that special events might impact the standard breakfast experience, though the staff's overall accommodating nature usually mitigates such issues.
Beyond dining, the inn also offers a full-service day spa, providing an opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation during your stay. This adds another layer of luxury to the guest experience. The inn also hosts various events, including weddings and conferences, indicating its capability for larger gatherings. Daily housekeeping is provided, ensuring rooms are kept clean and comfortable. The availability of amenities like fireplaces and Jacuzzis directly contributes to the romantic and relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a "nice little getaway."
When featured on a "Hotels Near Of Me" platform, the York Harbor Inn's promotional appeal is built upon its historic charm, romantic ambiance, exceptional ocean views, and fine dining. It targets travelers seeking a sophisticated coastal experience, particularly couples on a "nice little getaway." Their marketing often emphasizes their "six unique inns," each offering a distinctive style and set of amenities. The award-winning restaurant and full-service spa are significant selling points, positioning the inn as a destination for both culinary delights and relaxation.
The inn frequently offers various packages and specials designed to enhance the guest experience. Examples include "Romance Packages" with dinner and flowers, "Spa Packages" combining accommodations with treatments, and "Golf Packages" for enthusiasts. They also cater to specific events, such as offering an "Elopement Package" for intimate weddings. While one guest expressed concern about the "price (a little under 1000 for 3 nights) in comparison to the overall condition," indicating a need to manage value expectations, the consistently positive feedback on staff, food, and views often outweighs this for many guests who are seeking a premium experience.
It's important for guests to be aware of the specific building and room type they are booking, as amenities and views can vary significantly. While generally not explicitly pet-friendly in all areas, some select pet-friendly rooms might be available; direct inquiry is advised. The York Harbor Inn positions itself as a timeless New England retreat, offering a blend of historic charm and modern luxury for a truly memorable coastal escape in Maine.

May 07, 2025 · Rich MartelWe visited Thursday-Sunday of Easter weekend. We have stayed previously and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The first room we were checked into was unbearably too warm; we spoke to the front desk and the issue was resolved quickly. They had us move rooms for the duration of the stay. I generally liked the second room more. The staff was very accommodating and went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied. Our only two negatives we had when we left was the price ( a little under 1000 for 3 nights) in comparison to the overall condition (the cleanliness was good, though) of the room and Sunday breakfast. Apparently there was an Easter brunch planned for later in the day, so the breakfast which had previously been in the dining room and was quite nice, was moved to on off to the side, much smaller room with about 4 tables. To be frank, although the food was satisfactory, it seemed like we were an afterthought since we weren't part of the Easter event. It was significantly uncomfortable and we felt like a bother. Chairs were crowded around the few tables, table linens were dirty (perhaps from previous guests?) We ate quickly, left a tip, and checked out. Overall, the stay was fine, but don't feel the value for the price was there.
Apr 21, 2025 · Alicia JohnstonThe place is gorgeous, every bldg. Is spotless. The bar was cozy , with a beautiful atmosphere, food was top shelf. The buffet, breakfast was perfect. We didn't tell them our ages, 80 and 82,but when we got our room keys , it was for a 3rd floor scenic view. However climbing the spiral stairs was going to be a problem. We explained to the front desk , and they cordially changed us to a first floor room. That's a way to run a business. Worth every cent we spent.
May 07, 2025 · Cliff ThompsonWe had the most amazing stay! The staff were all incredibly welcoming and kind and went out of their way to make our stay special. Our room was beautiful (and very spacious), the view was stunning, and the food at the 1637 Main Dining Room was perfect! We also thought the complimentary breakfast was lovely. We can’t wait to return and plan on making a visit to the York Harbor Inn an annual tradition.
Apr 02, 2025 · Meghan MurphyMy husband and I have been celebrating our anniversary every May for the past five years at the York Harbor Inn, and it has become an incredibly special tradition. The charm of this inn, with its stunning Victorian and Georgian architecture, makes it a wonderful place to unwind and reconnect. What I love most about the inn is how so many of the buildings have been preserved as homes. The living room areas—full of historical character and charm—are often so quiet and underused. I never quite understand why, because there’s nothing better than curling up with a good book by the fireplace, enveloped by the cozy atmosphere. Over the years, we've had the pleasure of staying in a few of the beautiful inns on the property. We’ve spent time in The Chapman Cottage, The Harbor Crest Inn (twice now, once with our dog Gatsby), and The Harbor Hill Inn. So far, The Harbor Crest Inn holds a special place in my heart. The downstairs living rooms provide a peaceful retreat, and being able to bring our dog made it all the more special. One of the highlights of our stay is always the delicious breakfast served each morning. The dining area, with its beautiful views, makes even the simple act of enjoying a meal feel like an event. Whether you're admiring the stunning wallpaper or the charming fireplace, there’s always something lovely to take in while you enjoy your meal. This year, we dined at the restaurant upstairs a few times, and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff—especially Noelle—was beyond kind. Noelle was an angel sent from above; her warmth and kindness were truly touching, and her presence made the experience even more memorable. There was another staff member at The Harbor Crest Inn who was incredibly kind, and her genuine warmth touched my heart in a deep way. Sometimes, I believe God places angels in our paths to offer kindness and comfort, and she certainly did that for me. I'll never forget her kindness. The beach area across from the inn is another wonderful gift. Watching the sunrises and sunsets while walking along the shore was truly peaceful. The walks back to the Harbor Crest Inn were lovely too—there are so many safe, car-free areas to explore, and we even ventured out to the island, which was both relaxing and exhilarating. In fact, my heart rate dropped to 67, a sure sign of how deeply relaxed and present I felt during this anniversary getaway. This trip was exactly what my husband and I needed, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience it at the York Harbor Inn. It’s a perfect place to rest, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of Maine. I’m already looking forward to our next visit!
