Stayed here several times over the years, last time everything had been updated. Comfy beds, the view is to die for and close proximity to everything in York. Will add more pictures as I find them. Nice staff, great indoor pool, seats outside for watching the sunrise/sunset. I love it here. Try and stay on 1st floor if possible.

Grand View Hotel Introduce

For those utilizing the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform to find an exceptional coastal stay in Maine, the Grand View Hotel is a highly recommended option. Located at 800 York St, York, ME 03909, USA, this family-owned and -operated oceanfront hotel boasts an unparalleled location, offering direct access to the beach and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Its commitment to providing clean, comfortable lodging and a welcoming atmosphere has made it a favorite for both first-time and returning guests for over 50 years.

Environment and Location

The defining feature of the Grand View Hotel is its truly magnificent location directly along Long Sands Beach. Every room at the hotel offers full, unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean, providing a spectacular backdrop for your stay. Guests can literally step right onto the sand from this oceanfront property, making beach access incredibly convenient for swimming, sunbathing, or leisurely strolls. The soothing sounds of crashing waves are a constant companion, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, and guests appreciate falling asleep to them.

Beyond the immediate beachfront, the hotel's position on Route 1A, or York Street, ensures "close proximity to everything in York." This means that while you're immersed in the tranquility of the ocean, you're also just minutes away from the vibrant attractions of York Beach. The iconic Nubble Lighthouse is within easy reach (about 2.5 miles or an "easy 2 miles to lighthouse" walk along the beach), offering breathtaking views. Other nearby points of interest include Short Sands Beach, York's Wild Kingdom, the Museums of Old York, and the charming shops and restaurants of downtown York. This balance of serene oceanfront living and convenient access to local attractions makes the Grand View Hotel an ideal base for exploring the Southern Maine coast.

Accommodation Details and Features

The Grand View Hotel features 36 accommodations, including standard rooms and cottages, with many having been "updated" over the years, as noted by a long-term guest. Rooms are designed to maximize the ocean view, with every single room boasting full, unobstructed views of the Atlantic. The accommodations typically include options with one king bed or two queen beds, catering to various traveler needs.

In-room amenities are designed for comfort and convenience. Each room is air-conditioned (with guests noting that "the AC worked great"), includes a refrigerator, and a flat-screen Smart TV (often 43-inch) with cable channels. Complimentary wireless Internet access keeps guests connected, although one review noted "Internet sketchy at times" for a different property, it's not specific to Grand View. Many rooms feature a private balcony or patio, which guests highly appreciate for "watching the sunrise/sunset" and simply enjoying the "breathtaking view." The "balcony is great," as one guest enthusiastically shared. "Comfy beds" are also a consistent highlight, with one guest describing the bed as "like a marshmallow," providing ultimate comfort.

While rooms are consistently praised for being "flawlessly clean and smelled amazing as soon as we walked in," one guest mentioned the "only thing that was missing was a light in the room," finding there were "only night lights." This suggests that while overall illumination is sufficient, perhaps additional brighter lighting options could enhance the guest experience. However, this was not a "deal breaker" for them.

Beyond the individual rooms, the Grand View Hotel offers a range of property-wide features:

  • Indoor Pool: A major highlight is the heated indoor pool, which also offers "stellar views of Maine's legendary rocky coastline and the expansive Atlantic Ocean." It's described as "cozy" and very much enjoyed by guests, especially children. The pool is typically open from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
  • Outdoor Spaces: The hotel provides "seats outside for watching the sunrise/sunset," including a terrace and a garden, offering tranquil spots to unwind and soak in the ocean atmosphere. There's also a picnic area and barbecue grills for guest use.
  • Conveniences: Guests benefit from free self-parking on-site. The lobby typically provides complimentary coffee and water, a welcoming touch. The hotel maintains a smoke-free environment for the comfort of all guests.
  • Cottages: In addition to hotel rooms, the Grand View Hotel also offers "cozy cottages" that can feature full kitchens, private yards, and fireplaces, providing a more home-like experience. These options cater to guests seeking extended stays or more space.

It's important to note that the Grand View Hotel has a strict "no pets allowed" policy, which is crucial information for travelers with furry companions. Also, upper floors are accessible by stairs only, as there is no elevator, which could be a consideration for guests with mobility challenges.

Services and Guest Experience

The Grand View Hotel prides itself on its "nice staff" and excellent guest service, as repeatedly mentioned in reviews. Guests have found the staff to be "friendly and accommodating," with one instance of a microwave being provided "right away" upon request. The check-in and check-out process is usually smooth, with check-in from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. They also offer contactless check-in/check-out and express check-in/check-out for added convenience.

Daily housekeeping service is provided, ensuring that rooms remain "flawlessly clean" throughout the stay, a point that guests consistently praise. The hotel's emphasis on cleanliness, comfort, and attentive service contributes to a highly positive guest experience. The amenities, particularly the indoor pool, are a significant draw, especially for families and during cooler weather or off-season, offering a recreational option regardless of outdoor conditions. The ability to enjoy the beach directly across the street and take long walks to the lighthouse enhances the overall stay. The hotel is suitable "even with kids," indicating its family-friendly atmosphere.

While the hotel does not offer on-site dining (beyond perhaps coffee/tea makers in rooms and the availability of a refrigerator), its central location means "delightful dining experiences" are just "steps away," with numerous restaurants in York Beach to choose from, ranging from casual to fine dining. This allows guests the flexibility to explore local culinary delights.

Promotional Information and Considerations

When searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," the Grand View Hotel's primary promotional strength lies in its unparalleled oceanfront location and the "grand view" that its name suggests. The hotel consistently highlights that "every room boasts full, unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean," a rare and highly sought-after feature in coastal lodging. The heated indoor pool is another strong selling point, allowing for year-round enjoyment of water activities, even during the off-season. The fact that the property has been family-owned and operated for over 50 years also speaks to a tradition of hospitality and commitment to guest satisfaction.

The Grand View Hotel often offers seasonal rates and specials. For instance, off-season rates (April-June and September-October) are considerably lower than peak season rates (June-September), making it an attractive option for those looking for value. They may have a minimum stay of two nights during peak months and holiday periods. Guests should note the 14-day cancellation policy for full refunds. The hotel emphasizes its updated rooms and comfortable amenities, ensuring a pleasant stay. The "highly recommended" reviews for short getaways, especially for families, reinforce its appeal. For travelers prioritizing ocean views, direct beach access, a comfortable and clean environment, and friendly service in York, Maine, the Grand View Hotel offers a compelling choice for a memorable coastal vacation.

I was hesitant initially to stay at this hotel but I am so glad we did! The room was flawlessly clean and smelled amazing as soon as we walked in! The view is breathtaking. The staff is friendly and the hotel was perfect even with kids. The rooms were spacious and had a microwave and a mini fridge (we asked for a microwave and got one right away!) The balcony is great and the AC worked great as well. Only thing that was missing was a light in the room! Not a big deal but sometimes I felt like we needed more light since there were only night lights in the room. Not a deal breaker for us so we still enjoyed our stay. The pool was cozy and my son enjoyed it a lot. We loved our experience here! Highly recommended. It was perfect for our mini long weekend getaway. York is also such a cute lively town!!

We came to the Grandview back in 2018 we were driving by needed a place to stay for the night. We loved the location and the view but the hotel and especially the rooms really need some upgrades. I am pleased to say we decided to go back this past week we stayed on the third floor room #310 great choice nice corner balcony and we absolutely loved it. Especially all the renovations outside and inside congratulations on a great job. Yes there is a little more to do but we love it and will back again. Oh ya and the woman at the front desk was absolutely great. Thank you so much for a great experience….:)

Horrid. Pictures were deceiving and didn’t portray the firetrap with rickety steep skinny wooden steps to the second and third floors. No help with luggage - outdated tiny bathroom, no closet - could go on and on. Worst part was the price. $402 per night for this dump. Love traveling and never complain about a high price - WHEN ITS WORTH IT. They charged my AMEX for $82.15 for stealing a pillow and a blanket. When I called to dispute this with them - the rude lady said “housekeeping said you took them”. I’m really gonna steal a crummy pillow and blanket to pack in a suitcase and fly back home. Jeez 😡 Just thankful we didn’t perish in a fire while there because didn’t see sprinklers etc and the front desk was closed from 9 to 9. With no phones in rooms would have been hard to call 911 if couldn’t get to cell phone. Worst overpriced hotel I’ve ever stayed in. EVER.

10/10 would recommend. Especially for the price. The rooms look exactly like the pictures. Very clean. They had extra towels out on the bed. Perfect location. Can't beat waking up to the ocean outside your door. Big mini fridge. Beds/pillows were the most comfortable I've slept on in a hotel. The lady's were all friendly. Smart TV I could connect my Netflix to. My 7yo loved it as well. My only complaints are that there was supposed to be a microwave and when we got there the room had no microwave, and I would feel safer if the old school locks were replaced with a card system. But this is definitely one of my new favorite hotels. I Especially loved how large the balcony is. You could easily do some morning yoga there. Loved it there and wish I didn't have to leave.
