I did not stay here, I simply had some food and drinks. The crab cakes were excellent.
For individuals searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with a distinctive character in the charming coastal town of Niantic, Connecticut, the Morton Hotel offers a truly unique option. Located at 215 Main St, Niantic, CT 06357, USA, this establishment stands apart from typical hotels, providing a blend of short-term and extended-stay accommodations that lean more towards a boarding house or apartment-style living. The hotel can be contacted via phone at (860) 739-1913 or mobile at +1 860-739-1913.
The Morton Hotel boasts an enviable location directly across from Niantic Bay and the picturesque Long Island Sound. This prime waterfront position means many rooms likely offer captivating ocean views, and guests are just steps away from the famous Niantic Boardwalk, a perfect spot for leisurely strolls, fishing, or simply enjoying the seaside ambiance and stunning sunsets. Being situated right on Main Street, the hotel is at the heart of Niantic's vibrant downtown. This allows for excellent walkability to a variety of local amenities, including shops, restaurants, bookstores, and grocery stores. The historic nature of the building, originally built in 1868, adds to the charm, having been recently renovated to maintain a timeless oceanfront mansion feel with a hotel-like convenience. The surrounding area of Niantic itself is known for its friendly and inviting community, offering a classic seaside village experience with easy access by foot, car, or even train. Major nearby attractions include the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut (a short walk away), McCook Point Park & Beach, and Rocky Neck State Park (a short drive). The hotel's location also provides reasonable driving access to larger cities like New London (approx. 12 min drive), Old Saybrook (approx. 19 min drive), and Mystic (approx. 26 min drive to Mystic Amtrak).
The Morton Hotel's operational model diverges from that of a conventional hotel. It is often described as more of a "boarding house" or offering "apartments" for rent, rather than traditional short-term hotel rooms with daily turnover and extensive services. This implies a focus on longer-term stays, making it particularly suitable for individuals or professionals seeking extended lodging in the Niantic area. While specific details on daily services like housekeeping frequency are not widely publicized, customer feedback suggests that rooms/apartments are generally clean, and the housekeeper is regarded as a "wonderful person."
In terms of amenities, the Morton Hotel offers features that support a more self-sufficient style of living. These can include:
It's important to note that unlike typical hotels, direct reservations for short stays might not be available or straightforward. The establishment appears to primarily cater to a clientele seeking more permanent or extended accommodations. Additionally, it has been mentioned that the Morton Hotel is "not kid friendly," which might be a consideration for families traveling with children.
While the Morton Hotel itself is not extensively advertised as having a full-service restaurant or dining amenities on-site in the traditional hotel sense, its Main Street location is a significant advantage for dining. Guests have highlighted that the hotel is "beside a beautiful restaurant, 5 Churches on the bay restaurant and bar," implying immediate access to quality dining options. Furthermore, the pedestrian-friendly nature of downtown Niantic means that "several shops, restaurants, book stores, grocery stores all in walking distance," providing ample choices for meals and provisions.
The unique aspect of being directly across from the ocean means guests can easily enjoy activities along the Niantic Boardwalk, whether it's a morning walk, an evening stroll, or simply relaxing on benches to take in the views. The proximity to local beaches, such as Hole-in-the-Wall Beach and McCook Point Beach, offers opportunities for swimming and sunbathing.
Given its unique operating model as more of a boarding house or apartment rental than a typical hotel, promotional information for the Morton Hotel is not usually found in the same vein as major hotel chains. Instead of seasonal discounts or loyalty programs, pricing tends to be structured around monthly rent for apartment-style units, with reported ranges for one-bedroom, one-bath efficiencies being in the $1,200 - $1,400 range per month. This cost is often justified by the prime oceanfront location. Since reservations are not typically made in the same way as a standard hotel, prospective guests interested in staying at the Morton Hotel should directly contact them via phone at (860) 739-1913 or +1 860-739-1913 to inquire about availability, rates, and the specific terms of stay. It is crucial to clarify the nature of the accommodation (short-term vs. long-term, specific room features, and included utilities) as well as any policies regarding children or pets, as pets are generally not allowed based on available information. The lack of standard online booking channels reinforces the direct inquiry approach. For those seeking an immersive, long-term, and historically rich coastal living experience in Niantic, the Morton Hotel provides a distinctive alternative to conventional hotel stays.

Jul 21, 2024 · Devin ShanahanThis is not a normal "hotel". It is more of a boarding house. You cannot make reservations to stay here and it is not kid friendly. Rooms/ apartments are clean, and the housekeeper is a wonderful person. Prices are a bit high, but living directly across from the ocean carries $$$.
Apr 02, 2018 · Deb LaCourseThe rooms are a bit small but the place use to have a bad rep it is now clean due to the wonderful cleaning/manager lady and the male manager is attentive and will do his best to help you right away. It’s hard to get into because the place is always full of long term tenants due to location and price
