A wonderful harbor town. Not too crowded. The hupper room was very clean and had a view from every window. There is no air conditioning and it’s on the third floor. However, it gets cool enough at night to be very comfortable. There is a fan in the room which is helpful as well if you want it very cool. There’s fresh coffee downstairs in a lovely sitting room. The hotel is so unique because of its history. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff is very responsive and so we felt comfortable at all times. They even ran extra towels to us at 9pm! Overall I would give this place 5 stars and I would highly recommend it. I also recommend breakfast at the general store. We took the early ferry into Monhegan island which was the highlight of our stay.

Ocean House Hotel Introduce

For those seeking an authentic and memorable coastal Maine experience, the Ocean House Hotel in Port Clyde, Maine, stands as a distinguished option under the "Hotels Near Of Me" category. Located at 870 Port Clyde Rd, Port Clyde, ME 04855, USA, this historic hotel, built in the late 1820s, offers a unique blend of old-world charm and attentive hospitality. You can contact them at (207) 372-6691 or +1 207-372-6691.

The Ocean House Hotel is not just a place to stay; it's an immersion into the tranquil rhythm of a working Maine harbor town. Its prime location at the very end of the St. George Peninsula means unparalleled access to the village's quintessential sights and sounds, including the nearby Monhegan Island Mailboat and the iconic Marshall Point Lighthouse. This makes it an ideal base for exploring one of Maine's most picturesque and less-crowded coastal areas.

Environment: Historic Charm with Breathtaking Views

The environment surrounding the Ocean House Hotel is one of its most captivating features. Situated directly on the harbor, the hotel boasts magnificent views from nearly every window. Guests frequently highlight the "wonderful harbor town" setting, noting its peaceful ambiance and lack of excessive crowds, which contributes to a truly relaxed vacation. The historic nature of the building, dating back to the 1820s, imbues it with a unique character and a sense of stepping back in time. While the hotel maintains its historic integrity, it thoughtfully integrates comforts for modern travelers.

The immediate surroundings are part of the charm. Guests can observe the daily life of a working harbor, with lobster boats coming and going. A short walk from the hotel leads to attractions like the famous Marshall Point Lighthouse, a scenic spot that was featured in the movie Forrest Gump, and the Monhegan Boat Line, offering ferry trips to the artistic Monhegan Island. Drift Inn Beach is also less than a mile away, providing a lovely spot for a walk and enjoying the beautiful water. The town itself offers a small, intimate feel, with local establishments like the Port Clyde General Store (though its current status as a dining option may vary, as per some reviews) and the Village Ice Cream Shop, contributing to the local flavor.

While the hotel does not feature air conditioning in all rooms, particularly on the upper floors like the "Hupper room," reviews indicate that the coastal Maine nights often provide sufficient cooling, especially with the aid of in-room fans. This contributes to the authentic, unpretentious charm of a traditional coastal inn.

Services: Responsive Hospitality and Thoughtful Touches

The service at Ocean House Hotel is consistently praised for its responsiveness and warmth. Guests frequently commend the staff for being "very responsive" and ensuring a comfortable stay. One customer highlighted the excellent service, noting that staff even "ran extra towels to us at 9pm!" This dedication to guest comfort helps create a welcoming and reassuring atmosphere, making visitors feel at home.

In terms of amenities, the Ocean House Hotel provides essentials for a comfortable stay. Guests can enjoy fresh coffee downstairs in a "lovely sitting room," providing a pleasant start to the day. The hotel also offers private bathrooms in its rooms. While some information suggests an on-site spa and art gallery, current detailed offerings for these might vary and it's best to confirm directly with the hotel. Guests also have access to free private parking, with overflow parking behind the hotel. The hotel is also dog-friendly, allowing service animals in all guest areas and welcoming non-service dogs in specific rooms for a nonrefundable charge, with policies in place regarding their care and behavior on the premises.

It's important to note some variations in information regarding dining services. While some sources mention an "Ocean House Dining Room - Port Kitchen" serving meals, other recent reviews suggest the Port Clyde General Store (which had previously served as a dining option) may no longer be standing or offering a full restaurant service. Therefore, guests should verify current dining availability directly with the hotel or research local dining options in Port Clyde prior to their stay. However, the presence of fresh coffee in the sitting room and the general responsiveness of the staff remain consistent positives.

Features: Historical Significance and Authentic Experiences

The Ocean House Hotel's unique history is a key feature. Built in the 1820s, it carries the weight of nearly two centuries of coastal Maine heritage. Staying here offers a chance to experience lodging in a structure that has witnessed countless seasons of Port Clyde life. This historical authenticity is often cited by guests as a reason they "really enjoyed stay," contributing to its unique appeal among "Hotels Near Of Me."

The hotel's rooms are described as "very clean," with amenities that ensure comfort. The "Hupper room," for instance, is noted for its cleanliness and "a view from every window," emphasizing the hotel's commitment to maximizing the scenic coastal setting. While air conditioning may not be a standard feature in all rooms, the provision of fans and the naturally cool Maine nights typically ensure a comfortable temperature. The individual character of each room, reflective of a historic inn, is part of its charm rather than a drawback.

Beyond the accommodations, the hotel's proximity to the Monhegan Island ferry is a major draw. Many guests highlight taking the "early ferry into Monhegan island" as a "highlight of stay," underscoring the opportunities for exploration and adventure that the Ocean House Hotel facilitates. The Marshall Point Lighthouse, another iconic local landmark, is also within easy walking distance, offering picturesque views and a glimpse into Maine's maritime history.

In summary, the Ocean House Hotel offers a compelling choice for those searching under "Hotels Near Of Me" in coastal Maine. Its deep historical roots, prime harbor-front location with stunning views, and commitment to responsive guest service create an authentic and memorable stay. Despite some minor variations in modern amenities like air conditioning, the overall charm, cleanliness, and the unique opportunity to experience a quintessential Maine village make it a highly recommended destination for a tranquil and enriching coastal getaway.

Stopped on a Sunday walk to grab drinks me lunch. Rudest person working there, bo greeting, no thank you and I waved goodbye as was ignored. I know we are from away, but this was ridiculous. Had decent food but asked for a can drink and bottled drink and was given glasses w/ no ice!!! Really? Not enjoyable

Conveniently close to the port. Very old quaint inn. 3rd floor has low ceilings and VERY low dinky shower. What you would expect from and old building. Bed was very comfy however. 1 nail sticking up from the beautiful wood floor, so had to watch that.
