Glad to see that is under new ownership. Previous owners were running it into the ground and grumbling all the while. Antiques, yes. Badly maintained furniture, rugs and good need of a scrub down and better maintenance. I'll stay there this summer and see what it's like now. I hope improvements have been made and there is some courtesy.

Hotel Pemaquid & Cottages Introduce

For those exploring the "Hotels Near Of Me" category and seeking a unique blend of history, coastal charm, and modern comfort in Midcoast Maine, Hotel Pemaquid & Cottages in New Harbor presents a compelling option. This establishment, comprising a historic main hotel building and various cottages and annexes, offers a distinct experience, particularly appealing to travelers looking for character and a prime location near iconic Maine landmarks.

The environment of Hotel Pemaquid & Cottages is deeply rooted in the picturesque coastal landscape of New Harbor, Maine. Located at 3098 Bristol Rd, New Harbor, ME 04554, USA, the hotel is renowned for its exceptional proximity to the famous Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park. While the hotel itself "does not boast an ocean view," it is remarkably situated just "150 yards from the rugged Pemaquid coast and lighthouse," allowing guests easy walking access to one of Maine's most cherished and photographed lighthouses. This iconic landmark, commissioned in 1827, is a major draw, offering stunning ocean vistas and a rocky shoreline perfect for exploration. The surrounding area of New Harbor is a quintessential charming fishing village, providing a quieter and more authentic Maine experience compared to larger tourist hubs. Guests can enjoy the serene atmosphere, explore nearby Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site, or visit the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Preserve. The sounds of the ocean crashing and distant harbor bells contribute to the tranquil ambiance. The property itself is spread across multiple buildings, including the original hotel (built in 1888, converted from a farmhouse), as well as separate cottages and annexes, each offering a distinct feel. The setting allows for a peaceful retreat while being conveniently located for exploring the Pemaquid Peninsula's natural beauty and historic sites.

Hotel Pemaquid & Cottages offers a range of services and features that cater to various traveler needs, with recent improvements enhancing the guest experience. The hotel provides 30 uniquely decorated rooms, spread across approximately 10 buildings, ensuring a diverse selection of accommodations. Room types range from "Small rooms" in the main hotel to "Amazing over-sized rooms" in suites, and more contemporary units in the newer Campbell Lodge building. Amenities generally include comfortable beds, air conditioning in many units (including the new rooms), private bathrooms, and flat-screen televisions. Some rooms in the main hotel or cottages may also feature a coffeemaker, microwave, fireplace, or a full kitchen/kitchenette. Free Wi-Fi is available, notably strong in public areas like the parlors of the main hotel, with good speed in rooms, though some older reviews mention spotty Wi-Fi in surrounding buildings. Complimentary coffee is typically available in a common area for guests. Each room, particularly the newer ones and many others, features a deck or patio, providing private outdoor space for relaxation. The front desk operates during limited hours, generally from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with check-in from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM. Free self-parking is available on-site. It's important to note that the hotel has been under new ownership since at least 2011, and more recent reviews confirm further "new rooms" and "gorgeous recent remodels." These improvements suggest a commitment to upgrading the property, addressing past concerns about maintenance. While the hotel historically embraced a "step back in time" aesthetic, the new rooms show a move towards modernized comfort, with spacious layouts. Housekeeping services are available upon request. However, it's worth noting that the hotel explicitly states pets are not allowed, and cash is not accepted for payments. Parties or events are also not permitted on the property.

From a promotional perspective, Hotel Pemaquid & Cottages emphasizes its historical charm, unique accommodations, and "exceptional value" given its proximity to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. The hotel prides itself on offering "the lowest rates in the area" for its distinct offerings. The recent change in ownership and ongoing improvements are significant promotional points, addressing previous guest concerns about maintenance and courtesy. Guests appreciate the "new owners" for being "kind" and for making "so many improvements," creating a "clean, bright, welcoming" environment. The existence of "new rooms" that are "spacious and air conditioned" and "worked well" for guests' needs is a testament to these efforts. The blend of "antiques" in the main building with "more contemporary" cottages allows the hotel to appeal to a wider audience, from those seeking a nostalgic experience to those preferring modern comforts. The direct walking access to Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park is a major draw, often cited as a "great location." While there isn't a traditional breakfast buffet, the provision of complimentary coffee and the proximity to the Sea Gull Shop and Restaurant (known for its memorable meals, right next door to the lighthouse) offer convenient dining options. The hotel aims to provide a memorable stay in one of the "most beautiful areas in Maine," at a rate that is considered "reasonable" and provides "exceptional value." The appeal of unique, historically rich accommodations in a serene coastal village, combined with ongoing improvements and competitive pricing, makes Hotel Pemaquid & Cottages an attractive consideration for those searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category for an authentic Maine experience.

Had a nice stay at the hotel in one of the new rooms. Since we were the first people to stay in that particular room, there were some things missing that I’m sure will be there next time, like art on the walls and table lamps and towel hooks. The room was spacious and air conditioned and worked well for our needs. I would return in the future.

Hotel Pemaquid was delightful. And the "Chauffeur Quarters" was an amazing room. The owners and staff are all lovely and welcoming. The surrounding area was also great for taking a stroll and watching the sunset. The Pemaquid light house is also only a 2minute walk from the property. The walkable dining options are limited, but many good options with a 10-15min drive. Would strongly recommend the property.

Very nice staff (except they didn't want us to charge our car). Room was clean but a bit spare. Sound insulation between rooms could be better, but our neighbors quieted down early enough. Location near the lighthouse is excellent, as was the nearby restaurant for breakfast (same owners, I think). The water in our room seemed a little discolored. Had a brief water pressure issue with the shower, but it corrected itself.

Quaint, charming, hosted by a true Inn Keeper. Fresh cut flowers from their garden. 4 minute walk to the awesome Seagull resteraunt for breakfast. Great view of Pemiquid Light House at breakfast. Less than 10 minute drive to Shaws Wharf for lunch or dinner. Perfect for my wife and I.
