Wonderful historic property. Absolutely unique, even to this area. There has been an inn or hotel in continuous operation here since the 1700"s, with more than a few ghosts. ( They don't want to leave either!) Staff is always super- nice and accommodating. They say they are like a family, and mean it!

With roots tracing back to the 1700s, Poland Spring Resort has been in continuous operation as an inn or hotel, boasting a rich heritage that adds a distinct charm to every stay. It's a place where tradition meets recreation, making it an ideal choice for families, couples, and groups seeking a memorable Maine getaway.

Environment: Historic Charm and Scenic Beauty

Poland Spring Resort is set amidst a sprawling 500-acre estate, offering breathtaking vistas of the White Mountains and a tranquil, picturesque environment. The resort comprises multiple lodging options, including The Maine Inn, Presidential Inn, The Lodge, and several cottages, each contributing to the resort's diverse character. The property seamlessly blends its historic architecture with the serene natural surroundings, featuring beautifully maintained grounds, lush greenery, and access to nearby lakes. Guests often describe the atmosphere as relaxing and a perfect "stress-free zone." The historic buildings, with their unique architectural details and sometimes "actual key locks" as noted by guests, provide a quaint and authentic feel. High ceilings in some accommodations, like those in The Lodge, can contribute to a luxurious ambiance while retaining a sense of history. The resort is generally quiet, offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. While some of the individual lodging buildings, such as The Lodge, might show their age with "outdated decor" or "wrinkled carpeting" in some areas, the cleanliness is consistently maintained, and the staff are quick to address any issues. The natural setting means occasional encounters with wildlife or insects, such as ants, but these are typically minor in the context of the overall experience. The resort is also a smoke-free property.

Services: Attentive Staff and Comprehensive Amenities

The hallmark of Poland Spring Resort's service is its "super-nice and accommodating" staff, who embody a family-like atmosphere and genuinely strive to make guests feel at home. Despite the large scale of the resort, guests consistently praise the personal touch and responsiveness of the team, especially when addressing any needs or concerns.

  • Dining: The resort offers multiple food options to cater to various tastes. Guests can enjoy a complimentary buffet breakfast at The Maine Inn (confirming package inclusion as some reviews suggest a surcharge for adults and children). Other on-site restaurants include Mel's Hilltop Restaurant, offering lunch and dinner with views of the golf course and mountains from its veranda, and Rick's Pub, a casual spot for cocktails, beer, and wine, often featuring nightly happy hour specials. Cyndi's Dockside Restaurant & Boathouse provides indoor and outdoor dining with a focus on Maine lobsters, steaks, burgers, and also boasts great vegetarian options, with cauliflower bites receiving particular praise. A coffee shop/cafe and snack bar/deli are also available.
  • Guest Support: Even for satellite buildings like The Lodge where staff are not constantly on-site, a quick call to the main resort line results in prompt assistance.
  • Connectivity: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, including in guestrooms and public areas, with good speeds for multiple devices.
  • Additional Conveniences: The resort provides essential services such as a 24-hour business center, meeting rooms for events, a gift shop, and ATM/banking services. Laundry facilities are also available for guest use.
  • Pet-Friendly: Poland Spring Resort is a pet-friendly establishment, welcoming two dogs of any size in designated "Standard" rooms for an additional fee of $25 per pet, per night. Crated dogs may be left unattended, and there is a grassy area for pet relief. Proof of rabies vaccination is required at check-in, and certain aggressive breeds are not accepted. Cats are generally not allowed.

Just as relaxing as advertised. The room was very clean and the high ceilings in the Lodge gave the room a luxury feel while still being quaint and historic with actual key locks. It was quiet and the perfect night getaway. Next time I will stay longer!! The only con about this place is the lack of food options but I'm told that's common for Maine.

Our room was extremely small. The king bed took up 75% of the space. Bathroom was tiny as well. Quite outdated and far from quaint. Bed was comfortable. Door to hallway was a hollow core closet style. When lights in room were out you could see the hallway lights through the frame, a little unsettling. Price was right.

This place is a time capsule in a good way. I had no idea how expansive the grounds would be. Loved the world’s fair building, the pool, tennis courts, views… nice community vibe. Not fussy and dog friendly. People who worked there were exceedingly nice. For sure don’t want a thing to change — I liked hitting the bar for a drink and sitting on the porch. People all around laughing and talking is nice… but it was mostly an older crowd and there’s no noise late at night. Live music was nice too. It’s homey, a good value, and very glad we found it. Nonesuch brewery right down the road was also a great time.

My daughter had a fall wedding at the Poland Springs Resort with the reception in the Water Museum. Jen and Cindi were the most gracious hosts. They made this very special day magical and memorable. Everything went smoothly, the venues were lovely, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was spectacular!
