As a Marriott fan for life, staying here was not the quality I have come to expect from this hotel chain (especially, at a Renaissance). The lobby is nice enough, but my room (on a high floor), had A/C that never actually cooled it off, and a mildew smell in it. I turned the thermostat down as low as it could go, and still woke up sweating every night. The whole hotel is very humid and a bit dated. From what I gathered, it’s a luck of the draw, in terms of what your room will be like. I had peers who had nice and cool rooms. The best part of this hotel is the location. It’s walkable to so many spots in downtown Asheville.
For North Carolinians seeking an elevated experience in the heart of one of the state's most vibrant cities, the Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel stands as a prominent choice. As a distinguished Marriott property, this hotel is designed to offer a sophisticated and comfortable stay, blending modern amenities with a prime location that truly immerses guests in the unique charm of Asheville. It's more than just a place to sleep; it's a gateway to the eclectic culture, culinary scene, and natural beauty that defines Western North Carolina.
The hotel aims for a high standard of quality, which is reflected in its amenities and services. However, like any large establishment, guest experiences can vary. One guest, a self-proclaimed "Marriott fan for life," noted some inconsistencies, specifically mentioning a dated feel and issues with air conditioning and mildew smell in their room, suggesting it can be "a luck of the draw" regarding room condition. Despite these concerns, the unparalleled "location" and its walkability to "so many spots in downtown Asheville" were highlighted as the best features.
In contrast, another guest's recent two-night stay painted a much more positive picture: "The hotel staff were wonderful even as a large group of us started coming in for a summit. The room was a perfect size with a king bed. The bathroom lighting was so much better than the last seven hotels I’ve stayed in. The shower pressure felt like a spa. Also some of the best I’ve experienced in about the same time frame as the lighting. The bed was very comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised that my room was cleaned the day after checking in. It was nice not to have to ask for additional anything. The guy working the valet when I checked out also was working when I checked in, good guy! Professional, polite and helpful. Everyone was great and I highly recommend this hotel if you’re visiting Asheville!" This glowing review underscores the hotel's potential for delivering exceptional service and comfortable, well-appointed rooms, especially when the staff's dedication shines through. The Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel strives to provide a memorable visit, allowing guests to fully enjoy the essence of Asheville.

May 17, 2025 · Stephanie JohnsonI stayed two nights this week and valet my vehicle. The hotel staff were wonderful even as a large group of us started coming in for a summit. Mar 01, 2025 · Nicole PostChecked in and wanted to use valet but could not find them, asked the desk clerk who walked away presumably to get them 10 minutes later I parked my truck in back myself. In the room the chair has a split seem in the arm with stoffing showing. Tried to call the front desk to ask a question, dialed 0 rang 10 times no answer. Called guest services, rang 6 time before I got an answer. No spare blankets in room. We ended up in a weird corner room that had 2 rooms behind a door off the hall. The "isolation" door would not close or lock. The bathroom knobs are falling apart, after attempting to tightening i wanted to wash up. After about 5 minutes with just the hot water on i was able to wash with warm water as the pipes groaned. Not kudding. I would certainly not try a shower. Never saw an indication that the Cafe opened. Supposed to be an upscale hotel that we were staying in on a special occasion is a bust and money not well spent. Would change hotels but too tired and not sure we could find a room for the second night. Go elsewhere..... PS and most of the charging stations in the room do NOT work!!
Mar 18, 2025 · William PilcherExtremely dissatisfied all around. I had booked a King room and somehow wound up in some type of pod in a corner with another room like a damn dorm. I could hear their TV and dog, I’m sure they could hear me. Just not private at all to share a door with a stranger! No thank you. I came down to complain at 3am and at first was given attitude and told I booked a corner room. I did not, I just reconfirmed my booking. And saw that it should have been a King but I had two queens instead. The room itself wasn’t great and I couldn’t breathe. Zero amenities and paying $30 for parking, zero complimentary breakfast, zero booze or ability to even have a mimosa at the breakfast you pay for. What is the $200+ a night for??? I don’t see any value in this property and then they offered to change my room but told me they were all sold out of the King room that I actually paid for 🤣 What an absolute disaster
Apr 26, 2025 · Amanda palascianoSo, honest time. I don’t like the Asheville Renaissance hotel. I stayed at the Asheville AC Hotel (also a Marriott property) for a night before moving over to the Renaissance to be close to colleagues that were staying there. I wish I had stayed at the AC. First, the hotel and the rooms specifically are dated. Second, I had an experience at the front desk that wasn’t super. There’s plenty of parking but, on a cold day it can be too much of a walk. Also, the hotel has a sad bar with very limited drink options that’s right in the lobby very close to the front desk. There’s not a lot of space and it’s just not inviting. The bar itself will make you sad looking at it. One positive is that I had a great view from my room.
