The perfect place to wind down after a few frenetic runs on the Tail of the Dragon - far cheaper than resorts closer to the Tail. Blissfully peaceful and right in the woods. It was really clean, well-kept, and had all mod cons, including strong wif-fi. The complimentary coffee was also great. I booked just an hour before I arrived, and apart from a slightly delayed door code e-mail, my stay went without a hitch. There is no one on site, but the owner's telephone number was answered promptly. Very glad I rode the couple of extra miles south from the Tail.

The resort's environment is particularly appealing for outdoor enthusiasts. It's just a mile from the beautiful waters of Lake Santeetlah, renowned for boating, fishing, swimming, and various water sports. For those who love a thrill, the resort is conveniently located right off Highway 129, offering easy access to the world-famous "Tail of the Dragon" with its 318 curves in just 11 miles, and the scenic Cherohala Skyway, which winds a mile high through mountain-top ridges of the Cherokee National Forest. Guests can also explore hiking trails, go white-water rafting on the Nantahala River (or the more challenging Cheoah River during releases), zipline, mountain bike, or go horseback riding. Even for those not bringing fishing gear, the resort is happy to provide some, along with walking sticks for hikers, ensuring every guest can embrace their inner adventurer.
The common areas further enhance the natural appeal, featuring a barbecue area perfect for outdoor cooking, comfortable Adirondack chairs for relaxation, and inviting fire pits stocked with firewood and kindling for cozy evenings under the stars. Picnic tables are also available, along with a horseshoe pit and cornhole for some lighthearted fun. A nature trail leads directly to the river, offering great fishing opportunities.

Each treehouse is a private retreat, ensuring a comfortable and pampered stay. The resort surprisingly provides daily room service, a detail that delighted many guests. While there isn't staff permanently on-site, the owner's telephone number is provided and answered promptly, ensuring assistance is readily available. This blend of independence and support is a key feature of the service model.

A table for two, microwave, mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, and hair dryer are also standard amenities. This thoughtful touch demonstrates the resort's understanding of its clientele's needs.
The check-in process is designed for ease, often handled online, with door codes provided to guests. This streamlined approach allows for flexibility and minimal fuss upon arrival. One of the six treehouses, named Persimmon, is even ADA compliant, featuring a wheelchair lift, showcasing the resort's commitment to accessibility. The resort also offers complimentary coffee, a small but welcome detail. While pets are welcome, there is a fee ($65 for the first dog, $25 for a second, max 2), allowing guests to bring their furry companions along for the adventure.
The defining feature of River's Edge Treehouse Resort is, of course, its treehouse accommodations. These are not merely elevated cabins but meticulously designed tiny homes that offer comfort and style while putting you closer to the treetops. Each treehouse has a unique name and character, often inspired by the trees that grow through its deck. For example, White Pine boasts a secluded deck surrounded by trees, Yellow Pine is named for the twisted tree embracing it, and Poplar offers a great riverfront view with a beautiful tulip poplar extending through its deck. Black Walnut features two trees through its deck, and Cherry offers one of the largest decks.
Beyond the individual treehouses, the resort provides a range of amenities to enhance the stay. The outdoor barbecue area, fire pits, and picnic tables encourage communal enjoyment of the natural surroundings. The horseshoe pit and cornhole offer opportunities for friendly competition. The direct nature trail to the Cheoah River opens up possibilities for fishing and simply enjoying the riverside tranquility. The covered and paved parking underneath each treehouse is a significant feature, especially for guests with sports cars or motorcycles, ensuring their vehicles are protected from the elements. This attention to detail for specific guest needs is a notable characteristic.
The resort's dedication to creating a unique experience is evident in its thoughtful provisions. The inclusion of eco-friendly toiletries speaks to a commitment to sustainability. The availability of fishing gear and walking sticks for guests who may not have brought their own demonstrates a desire to facilitate enjoyment of the local activities. Apr 27, 2025 · Andrew KeenWe stayed in the White Pine & absolutely loved it! Super cozy. Room service daily (which surprised us!); secluded and perfect for a marriage getaway! My husband especially loved that he had a place to park his car our of the elements AND they provided car washing supplies! We would definitely stay here again! Thank you!!
May 03, 2025 · Carol AdamsLOVE! Quiet, beautiful and cozy stay! I stayed in unit 4, the black walnut. I haven’t seen the other units, but I feel this one is the best. It’s like 100 ft from the river and the communal fire pit is like 50 ft away. I was traveling alone and felt very safe and comfortable. It was 19 degrees and I was very warm with the fireplace heater. Parking was great, I parked right under the treehouse. The directions they send are very detailed and easy to follow. Also, the trails to drive to your treehouse are properly labeled and make it so easy to navigate there. The porch is a great size and comes with a grill. Perfect for morning coffee relaxation and river view. I would definitely come back and highly recommend!
Dec 01, 2024 · Jenna GervasioPerfect for a motorcycle adventure! Located a bit south of the Dragon on 129, very close to the main skyway entrance. Clean, quiet, safe location. Highly recommend.
Apr 17, 2025 · Richard MadsenWe have paid for a room, Confirmation ID: 420069164, and have tried calling your number and emailing via the confirmation email. We have been waiting at your gate for 30 minutes, calling 828-735-2228, and getting only voicemail. The building that appears from the map at the gate to be the office appears to be abandoned. There are no lights. Once we got in, climbing up an outside staircase to a deck and the door, still with no lights to guide our way, the room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. It might be worth pointing out to visitors, however, that at least during the quiet season, the property is not staffed.
