3 stars because the staff was really nice, everyone I encountered, even the housekeepers. The hotel was in a good area. Food and shopping within walking distance. The shuttle picked me up from the airport and also back and forth to penn station with no problem. Also had breakfast delivered to my room from a nearby deli, which I liked. I had a beautiful view of NYC skyline from the 10th floor. However, the rooms do not have AC. heat only. I’ve never been to a hotel like this. The room had huge stains on the lamps shades and Sheets. Weed smell coming thru the vent in the bathroom and smelled like weed thru the hotel. The walls are thin, so you hear everything. I mean for the price, you get what you pay for.
For those local users seeking a reliable and well-located option under the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Robert Treat Hotel stands as a prominent choice in downtown Newark, New Jersey. Located at 50 Park Pl, Newark, NJ 07102, USA, and reachable via phone at (973) 622-1000 or mobile at +1 973-622-1000, this historic hotel offers a blend of traditional charm and practical amenities, making it suitable for a variety of travelers from business guests to tourists exploring the area.
The Robert Treat Hotel boasts an exceptional location directly overlooking Military Park, a beautifully revitalized green space in the heart of downtown Newark. This central position places guests within easy walking distance of many of Newark's most significant cultural and entertainment venues. The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), a premier venue for concerts, theater, and dance, is just across the street. The Prudential Center, home to the New Jersey Devils hockey team and a major concert arena, is also a mere few blocks away (approximately a 5-10 minute walk). Other nearby attractions include the Newark Museum of Art, and the vibrant dining scene of the Ironbound District is a short drive or a slightly longer walk away.
One of the most significant advantages of the Robert Treat Hotel's location is its proximity to major transportation hubs. It is conveniently close to Newark Penn Station, which is accessible via a short walk or the hotel's shuttle service. From Newark Penn Station, guests can easily access Amtrak, NJ Transit, and PATH trains. This connectivity allows for quick and efficient travel to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (just one stop away on NJ Transit) and direct access to New York Penn Station in Manhattan, making it an excellent base for exploring both Newark and New York City. Guests have reported beautiful views of the NYC skyline from higher floors, adding to the appeal of the location.
The surrounding area is generally considered a safe and active part of downtown Newark, especially during the day. While some guests have mentioned hearing external noise due to thin walls, this is common in urban environments. The presence of food and shopping within walking distance further enhances the convenience of the hotel's setting.
The Robert Treat Hotel provides a comprehensive array of services and amenities designed to cater to the needs of its diverse clientele. The hotel features a significant number of guest rooms and suites, providing ample accommodation options.
The hotel offers a range of rooms, often noted for their cleanliness and organization, with ample towels and supplies for guests. While some guest reviews mention older aspects of the rooms, such as stained lampshades or sheets in isolated instances, and issues with ventilation (e.g., weed smell), the beds are generally reported as comfortable. A crucial point to note from a customer review is that the rooms are equipped with heat only, implying no air conditioning, which could be a significant factor for guests during warmer months. This is an unusual feature for a hotel of this caliber and location. Rooms typically include a desk, private bathrooms, and may offer views of the city or Military Park.
The hotel features on-site dining options. The Maize Restaurant offers a menu with a range of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can also enjoy cocktails and light fare at the hotel's lobby lounge. While a full breakfast is available, it typically comes with an additional charge. One guest enjoyed the convenience of having breakfast delivered to their room from a nearby deli, indicating flexibility in dining choices in the area.
For guests looking to stay active, the hotel provides a fitness center. Business travelers will appreciate the business center and the extensive meeting and event facilities. The Robert Treat Hotel is well-known for its large convention and banquet spaces, making it a popular venue for conferences, weddings, and other large gatherings. It boasts over 25,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, including several ballrooms and conference rooms, making it a significant player in Newark's event landscape. The hotel's capacity to host conventions suggests a well-equipped and active front desk, as noted by a past guest.
A highly praised service is the complimentary airport shuttle service to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), which runs regularly. Furthermore, the hotel also provides a convenient shuttle service to and from Newark Penn Station, eliminating the need for guests to walk with luggage, particularly beneficial for those arriving by train. For guests arriving by car, on-site parking is available. However, it's important to note that parking incurs a fee (approximately USD 24 per day), and the automated charging system based on duration can be confusing for some guests. Despite the potential for confusion, the hotel offers a good amount of parking space.
The Robert Treat Hotel's staff consistently receives high praise from guests for being "really nice," friendly, and helpful, from the front desk to the housekeepers. This positive interaction with staff significantly contributes to the overall guest experience. The hotel's historic character is a key feature, offering a sense of established elegance, although this can sometimes mean older infrastructure, as evidenced by the lack of in-room AC in some rooms and occasional mentions of noise transfer due to thin walls.
Despite some of these minor drawbacks, guests often find the hotel to be "reasonably priced" for its prime location and the amenities it offers, particularly when considering the convenience of airport and Penn Station shuttles. The ability to negotiate room prices, as one review mentioned, suggests that the hotel may offer flexibility depending on booking conditions or direct inquiries. The hotel maintains a good level of cleanliness in its rooms and common areas, with supplies like towels being more than adequate.
The hotel's active convention schedule often means a lively atmosphere and a capable staff accustomed to handling a high volume of guests. This is a positive for those who appreciate a bustling environment and efficient service.
While specific promotions for the Robert Treat Hotel can vary, guests are always encouraged to check the official hotel website or contact them directly for the most current rates and special offers. As a well-established hotel, it often participates in various booking deals through online travel agencies. Given its extensive event facilities, the hotel frequently offers packages for groups, conferences, and weddings. Discounts may also be available for extended stays or for corporate clients. Prospective guests should inquire about any seasonal promotions or packages that might include breakfast or other amenities. The hotel's pricing, as noted by a guest, can be negotiated, suggesting that direct bookings or inquiries might yield better rates.
In conclusion, the Robert Treat Hotel provides a robust option for those seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" in Newark. Its unparalleled location near major attractions and transportation, coupled with a consistently friendly staff and a comprehensive range of services including vital shuttle transportation, makes it a strong contender. While considerations like the absence of in-room AC and occasional noise transfer are worth noting, the hotel's overall value, historical charm, and convenience solidify its appeal as a central hub in downtown Newark.

Apr 21, 2025 · QueenThe hotel was pricey but we were able tobmatch the price and negotiate it to be lower which matched the room and its size. Parking is confusing where they charge you automatically based on your duration. They have a good amount of space and floors and amenities on hand. The front desk was always active and they had a convention when I went. The staff is helpful and the rooms are clean and organized. They had more than enough towels and supplies for our double bed for the four of us that stayed.
May 06, 2025 · RogueMadeMeMissed our connecting flight at Newark. They sent us to this hotel for the night. The bed linens were dirty..it was really gross. The area u drive through going there was terrible. Did not feel safe or comfortable staying there. Would not recommend it.
May 24, 2025 · Marie AnselmoI have read previous bad reviews and I gotta disagree. In fact staff was very polite and helpful, they let us extend our stay till 2PM. Room was cleaned every day, airport shuttle service runs every half an our from P4. The only thing I can complain about was the overlmelming smell of weed ( but it's not the fault of hotel). Anyway, our stay was marvelous and I thank U 4 that. Chris, Poland
