Do Not Stay Here If You Value Your Belongings I had an incredibly disappointing and distressing experience at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel. During my stay, personal items were stolen from my room. Rather than offering support or accountability, hotel staff handed me a piece of paper with a phone number and essentially told me to handle it myself. I received no follow-up, no apology, and no concern from management. When I called the number, I was told the hotel uses a temp agency for housekeeping and the person who cleaned my room was not a direct employee. I was also informed that the hotel hadn’t yet contacted their insurance company and may not even be covered for this situation. The police are willing to press criminal charges against the individual involved, yet the hotel continues to remain silent. To make matters worse, corporate simply documents your complaint and redirects you back to the hotel, providing no actual support. If you plan on staying here, do not leave any valuables in your room. In the unfortunate event that something goes wrong, you will be met with indifference and zero accountability. I left this hotel feeling completely powerless and violated. This is not the standard of care or professionalism I expected from a Sheraton property.
For those seeking accommodations within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, particularly with a focus on proximity to the airport, the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel, located at 1160 Thorn Run Road Extension, Coraopolis, PA 15108, USA, is often presented as a full-service option. As a Marriott property, it is expected to uphold certain brand standards, but an objective introduction requires a thorough examination of its environment, services, features, and the nuanced realities reflected in recent guest experiences.
The environment of the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel is strategically located in Coraopolis, a direct suburb of Pittsburgh, placing it within approximately 2-3 miles (about 5-10 minutes drive) of Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). This makes it highly convenient for air travelers, those with early flights, or those arriving late. The hotel is situated in a commercial area, offering relatively easy access to major roadways. It is also close to significant retail and dining hubs, such as Robinson Town Centre and The Mall at Robinson, which are typically within a 5-10 minute drive, providing ample opportunities for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Downtown Pittsburgh, with its major attractions, is about 15-20 minutes away by car, making it feasible for guests to explore the city.
However, the "environment" also encompasses the state of the property itself. Numerous recent reviews highlight that the hotel "definitely needs updating." There are consistent reports of an aging aesthetic, with descriptions like "peeling wallpaper," "baseboards were coming free from the wall," "scuffs and stains on the walls," and "window treatments had small tears." The exterior of the building is also noted to be "not well kept with weedy overgrown beds and Christmas decor still in place for Mother’s Day weekend," which suggests a lack of consistent maintenance and attention to detail for a property of this brand. While some reviews mention the hotel being "relatively quiet," the overall impression regarding the physical environment suggests a property that has not kept pace with modern expectations for a Sheraton-branded hotel.
In terms of services, the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel offers a range of amenities typically associated with a full-service hotel. A key offering for airport travelers is the complimentary airport shuttle service. While the hotel website states the shuttle operates from 4 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 11 PM daily upon request, there have been no explicit complaints about its schedule or reliability in the provided reviews, with some guests finding it efficient. The hotel features a 24-hour front desk, ensuring guests can receive assistance at any time. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in guest rooms and public areas. For dining, there is an on-site restaurant and bar, Link@Sheraton Cafe, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, specializing in American cuisine. Room service is also available.
However, a deeply concerning aspect of the services, as highlighted by a prominent review, relates to security and accountability regarding guest belongings. The reported incident of stolen personal items from a room, coupled with the hotel's alleged lack of support, follow-up, apology, or concern from management, is a severe detractor. The staff's response, referring the guest to a phone number and explaining that housekeeping is handled by a "temp agency" with potential insurance coverage issues, falls far below the expected standard of care and professionalism for a Sheraton property. This raises serious questions about guest security and the hotel's responsibility in such incidents. Other service-related frustrations include consistent issues with inoperable key cards, requiring guests to repeatedly return to the front desk for re-keying, which is a significant inconvenience, especially when tired. Housekeeping reliability has also been questioned in some reviews, with guests requesting cleaning that did not occur.
The features of the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel include 195 guest rooms and suites. Rooms typically offer a plush pillow-top mattress with premium bedding, a flat-screen TV with cable channels (including HBO), a work desk, and a private bathroom. Some rooms may also feature a seating area. The hotel provides facilities for disabled guests and is wheelchair accessible, with features like roll-in showers in some accessible rooms.
For recreation and wellness, the hotel features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and golf course access nearby. The hotel also offers extensive meeting and event spaces, with over 10,000 square feet of conference space across 11 meeting rooms, making it suitable for business travelers and events. An on-site Sundry Shop is available for additional conveniences. The hotel is also pet-friendly, though pet policies and fees should be confirmed directly with the hotel.
Customer reviews on the features are consistent with the property's aging condition. Beyond the security concerns, specific room issues include "stink bugs in the bathroom," "damp carpet," a "broken remote to control air," and "something that looked like poop smeared on the bed sham," as well as "ceiling had multiple areas of previous water damage." While some guests found the rooms "relatively quiet" and the "bedding comfortable," the overall perception of cleanliness and upkeep is highly mixed, with many finding it "not what I expected from a Sheraton." The restaurant experience also receives mixed reviews, with some finding the food "surprisingly tasty" while others report it as "bad."
In terms of promotional information, the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel, as part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, leverages its brand recognition and loyalty program. Key promotional aspects include its convenient airport location with a free shuttle, the presence of a full-service restaurant and bar, and facilities for both leisure (pool, fitness center) and business (meeting space). Marriott Bonvoy members can expect to earn and redeem points, and potentially access exclusive member rates and benefits. The hotel also promotes itself as a venue for events, such as weddings and conferences, highlighting its meeting spaces and catering services. However, the severe negative experiences reported by guests regarding theft and property condition directly contradict the premium image and service standards associated with the Sheraton brand, casting a significant shadow on any promotional claims of quality or care.
In conclusion, the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport Hotel, positioned within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, offers the advantage of close proximity to Pittsburgh International Airport and access to a major hotel brand's amenities. Its strengths include a free airport shuttle (though hours may be limited), on-site dining, and recreational facilities like a pool and fitness center. However, an objective assessment based on recent customer reviews reveals significant drawbacks. The most critical concerns revolve around severe reported security lapses involving guest belongings and an alarming lack of accountability from hotel management. Furthermore, the hotel appears to be in need of substantial renovation and more consistent maintenance, with numerous complaints about outdated, unclean, and poorly maintained rooms and common areas. While some aspects like comfortable bedding and location are appreciated, the overall guest experience appears to be highly inconsistent and, for some, deeply disappointing. Therefore, prospective guests should proceed with extreme caution, carefully weigh the reported issues against the convenience, and perhaps prioritize secure storage of valuables if choosing to stay at this property.

May 19, 2025 · sean mcgirrNot what I expected from a Sheraton. The hotel definitely needs updating! Our room on the 6th floor had peeling wallpaper and there were stink bugs in the bathroom. The baseboards were coming free from the wall and there were scuffs and stains on the walls. The window treatments had small tears and the pull chains were ripped from their wall tethers. The exterior of the building was also not well kept with weedy overgrown beds and Christmas decor still in place for Mother’s Day weekend. Each night we would ride the elevator up to our room and the key was inoperable. We would have to go back down to the front desk, where they’d re-key the card. This happened EVERY night of our stay. So inconvenient when you’re tired and just want to turn in for the night. Three stars were given for a relatively quiet room with comfortable bedding.
May 12, 2025 · K RThey had to change our room 4 times before they found a room key that would open the door. The clerk didn't seem to really care. It was around 11:30 pm and we had to check out at 4 am to catch an early flight the next day. The hotel rooms were your standard rooms. Both shuttle drivers were fantastic. Great customer service!
Mar 01, 2025 · Cherie PetersThe staff is really nice here. For a single bedroom, it's got a nice sized bed, tv, plenty of outlets to plug electronics in, and a nice bathroom. The downstairs bar area is really nice too. My only gripe is instead of playing any news station on the TV, play something more fun and positive like sports for example. The news is off putting to most people and a bar should be a place to relax.
Feb 28, 2025 · ninjahaven13We took advantage of the sleep and fly package given. We were traveling out at 7 AM and live about 90 minutes away from the airport. The shuttle service was really easy to use and both shuttle drivers were helpful and pleasant. The hotel is a little bit outdated, but we were told that it’s going to be updated in the next 12 to 18 months. I would definitely stay here again. There are many restaurants nearby as well.
