Sonder Battery Park

We stayed with Sonder Battery Park last month when my husband and I had a quick getaway to NYC. The staff were always kind and friendly. The rooms are super spacious, much more than I was expecting from NY. We like staying in places with a kitchen and washer and dryer. The kitchen was very modern and stocked with all the utensils and equipment we needed. The bed was very comfortable. Everything was immaculately clean. We were just steps away from the Subway and not far from anything we wanted to do. The one issue we did have was a leak in the ceiling of the room we had reserved. We brought this to the attention of the staff and they quickly found us another room that was comparable, except that it didn't have a nice view like the first one did. However, we weren't planning to stay in our room very much and they compensated us for the slight downgrade. All in all, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Really great location, across the way is a ferry to Jersey, subway stations to explore all of the hidden gems of New York and a bunch of cool speakeasy/bars around the area. I actually love this place and have never had a problem with Sonder so I continuously book with them. I love that I can use their mobile app to easily check in, check out and find some good spots around for essentials, coffee, etc.… However, my only two complaints are that the TV was not hooked up properly, so if you want to relax in your room after a long day, it might not work. We were also greeted by some friendly cockroaches in the bathroom. These aren’t crazy things, but wanted to put it out there for anyone who might stay in the future.

I 100% recommend staying here! The rooms were very spacious and had everything we needed, even if we paid for the cheapest option. We even had a great view! It was clean and modern. There were always at least two people at the front desk. They kept our bags safe before our check-in. I loved the amazing view from the rooftop, playing golf, and in general staying in one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city. The only issue was how loud the heating was. But I wouldn't doubt staying there again.

I travel a ton for work and personal, this was my first stay at a Sonder and will be my last. The people at the desk were nice, but definitely need better computer systems and to be trained better. It took 3 tries to get my code right for my room. Then I needed to check out early because I became sick on my trip. I went to the front desk and told them that I was leaving a day early. She asked my room number and name, typed something on the computer, then said I was all set. I then got charged for the night I wasn’t there. They said there was no modifications to my stay and no proof the conversation ever happened. It was bad enough I needed to cut my trip short and pay travel fees to change my transportation back home all with a fever, then to have to pay for a night I wasn’t there, when I gave them ample time to turn the room over for another guest. The location of this hotel is great, the rooms are spacious, and very affordable. The walls are very thin, so you can hear the sounds of traffic and every noise from the adjacent rooms. The AC unit sounded like a jet about to take off and was very inconsistent with the temperature of the room. There are so many great features, but then others that need to be updated to make the stay more enjoyable, but the #1 thing that needs to be updated is the desk staff training.

Such a great experience! I felt safe, it’s right next to the subway, so clean, and the staff are so friendly! They even kept our bags after checking out so we could keep exploring before our flight home! I highly recommend and will likely stay with Sonder again!
