Mixed bag of a hotel. The location is excellent, short walk to battery park and several subway stations, great food in the area. It's not as busy as midtown. Staff is really friendly/helpful and allowed me to check in 1.5 hours early. Significant drawbacks are the elevators and rooms. Room was pretty cramped and it was hard to lay out all my items for a 2 night stay. Stayed with a friend and there was only chair, so only one of us could sit down when brought food back to the hotel. Fridge is tiny and can only fit a few small drinks. Shower was inconsistent and would not always have hot water. On my second night the A/C was not working well and I had difficulty sleeping because the room was so hot. The elevators, as others have mentioned here, are pretty slow. But I usually waited 1-4 minutes for the elevators and never 10+ minutes as others have mentioned. I don't regret staying here and the price was reasonable for Manhattan but I would probably look elsewhere on the next visit.
Looking for a hotel in a prime downtown location in New York City? The DoubleTree by Hilton New York Downtown, located at 8 Stone St in the Financial District, is part of the 'Hotels Near Of Me' category and offers accommodation with easy access to various attractions and transportation options. However, guest reviews present a mixed picture of the overall experience.
One of the consistently praised aspects of the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Downtown is its excellent location. Guests appreciate the short walk to Battery Park and several subway stations, providing convenient access to explore the city. The area is also noted for having great food options and a less crowded atmosphere compared to midtown. Additionally, the staff are frequently described as really friendly and helpful, with one guest mentioning the ability to check in 1.5 hours early.
However, significant drawbacks are mentioned in the reviews, particularly concerning the elevators and the rooms. The elevators are a major point of concern, with multiple guests describing them as "pretty slow" and even a "nightmare." One guest reported waiting up to 30 minutes for an elevator to reach the 31st floor, suggesting that the issue is substantial and can significantly impact the guest experience.
The rooms are also a point of criticism. They are described as pretty cramped, making it difficult for some guests to comfortably organize their belongings, even for a short stay. In one instance, a room shared by two people had only one chair. The fridge in the room is noted as tiny, capable of holding only a few small drinks. Furthermore, issues with the shower's inconsistent hot water and malfunctioning AC in one room, leading to discomfort during sleep, were also reported.
While one guest felt the price was reasonable for Manhattan and did not regret their stay, they also indicated they would likely look elsewhere on their next visit due to the mentioned drawbacks. Another guest explicitly stated they would genuinely consider staying at a different hotel solely because of the problematic elevators.
For direct bookings or inquiries about potential promotions, you can contact the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Downtown at (212) 480-9100 or +1 212-480-9100. For the most up-to-date information on offers, it is recommended to check the hotel's official website or your preferred booking platform. While the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Downtown boasts a fantastic location and friendly staff, potential guests should be aware of the reported issues with the elevators and the size and amenities of the rooms.

Jan 14, 2025 · Matthew WalkerHotel was fine. What you’d expect from a 3 star hotel. The lifts are an actual nightmare. We waited 30 minutes for one to come to the 31st floor. I thought people were exaggerating in other reviews. They weren’t. The lifts are diabolical. I’d genuinely consider staying elsewhere just for the lifts
Mar 22, 2025 · Jordan CastleThis is my favorite hotel in NYC! It’s close to the 4/5 and R/W trains, so you can easily get anywhere in the city. The rooms are small; however, that’s pretty standard across the city and their prices are unbeatable. Their service is amazing as well, especially the luggage storage guys. One of them even carried my large suitcase down the stairs for me! I appreciate everything they’ve done for me, and I will continue to stay here in the future!
Feb 22, 2025 · Marie ManickathThe rooms were clean and comfortable. They actually cleaned a few things we had planned on keeping, but it seemed like an honest mistake. The only issue was the elevators. One of the 3 was out of service while we were there, and it led to much longer wait times. The location is good. It's very close to public transport, multiple subways, and the Staten Island Ferry. If I stayed again, I would do a better job of putting souvenir cups and stickers away.
Mar 02, 2025 · Sarah ComfortOutstanding service from every staff member we interacted with. Excellent Location for our travel needs. Very poor elevators. I’ve seen other complaints about the shower but ours was excellent! Perfect pressure and temperature. We loved our room but could’ve used another charging station. We will most likely return on future trips.
