I was pleasantly surprised with our remodeled room. It was nicely decorated and spacious considering we are in NYC. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is pretty conveniently located in the vicinity of some nice restaurants and pizza joints. Some of the main NY sites, are a $20-40 ride-share drive away. You can find more conveniently located hotels, but you will definitely have to pay extra. I was perfectly happy with this hotel and will stay here again.

The $42 daily facility fee supposedly included two free waters upon arrival, but we were told we had to use the $10 daily cupboard credit to buy them instead—felt a bit misleading. The room was shockingly small, probably the smallest hotel room I’ve ever seen. The bed had a weird smell, like the sheets were new but hadn’t been washed. The minibar took up what little table space there was, which made the room feel even more cramped. On top of that, the walls were thin, and I could hear people talking and walking outside. That said, the location is great—super easy to get to the subway and right in Midtown. The hotel itself is a bit old but well maintained. Overall, not a terrible stay, but I wouldn’t rush back.

The rooms are beautiful - simply decorated with all you need, and the location is just far enough from the crowds to be quieter and close enough to get anywhere with a 5-10 minute walk. They made such a fuss with our little traveling pooch including a pet bed & welcome gifts to make our stay stress free. The $75 fee was a pleasure to pay. Everyone at the Benjamin is pleasant, helpful & gets right on top of every request. This is our new go-to hotel.
Feb 23, 2025 · Maureen BugdonNot Worth the Price – Disappointing Stay The only real advantage of The Benjamin Royal Sonesta is its excellent location in Manhattan. Unfortunately, everything else about our stay was below expectations. The rooms are old, not properly cleaned, and smell musty — especially in the bathroom. Definitely not what you'd expect at this price point. We were told we had a $10 daily minibar credit, but that turned out to be misleading. A single bottle of water in the room (which many hotels provide for free) costs $10, and it's not even restocked unless you specifically request minibar service. When we asked about water at the reception one evening, we were met with extremely rude behavior. The staff member told us no hotel offers free water, claimed he was a status guest at many properties and had never seen this elsewhere, and ultimately refused to give us even one bottle — despite the fact that our group had spent over $6,000 in total. Very disappointing overall. There are much better options in NYC for the same price or less. I wouldn’t stay here again.
Apr 04, 2025 · D HWe just stayed here for an extended stay and it was fantastic. Great location and the friendliest hotel staff we have ever encountered in the city. We travel to the city often and decided to try this place because the cost was so much lower than comparable hotels in the area that we normally stay at. I was worried we would regret it due to mixed reviews but we it was excellent and we already have our next stay booked! The lobby is small but beautiful, rooms are remodeled and the one we were in was very spacious. They have a spa now (didn’t try but plan to someday!) but the restaurant is temporarily closed. Overall, really great spot!
