Really nice big room for a great price. Awesome location. Cute little breakfast table, charming historical building, so the bathroom for example is older. Lady who checked us in was super nice and accommodating. They let us change the check-in time multiple times and let us check out 2.5 hours late. Our room was clean. Great to use as a place to sleep, definitely not a resort.

Beacon Inn Introduce

For those exploring the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the Beacon Inn offers a distinct and often budget-friendly alternative to larger, more conventional hotels. Located at 1087 Beacon St, Brookline, MA 02446, USA, with phone number (617) 566-0088 and mobile phone +1 617-566-0088, this inn provides a unique stay within a historic setting. It caters to travelers seeking a characterful place to sleep with convenient access to Boston and its surrounding areas, rather than a full-service resort experience.

The environment of the Beacon Inn is rooted in its historical identity. It operates out of restored 19th-century brownstones, offering a sense of "charming historical building" and a "classic atmosphere." This allows guests to "experience modern comforts in a Victorian brownstone" and gives a glimpse into what a 19th-century house looks like. The inn’s location on Beacon Street in Brookline positions it in a "quiet neighborhood" that combines "urban convenience and suburban charm." It's just over the Boston/Brookline line, providing easy access to Fenway Park, Kenmore Square, and Back Bay, with its famous Newbury Street shopping district. For those relying on public transport, the "trolley stop out front" (the "C" Branch of the Green Line of Boston's subway system) makes getting around "easy and affordable," connecting guests to Boston University, Boston College, MIT, Fenway Park, and even the Boston Science Museum. The surrounding area in Brookline also boasts a "variety of shops and some wonderful restaurants," particularly in walking distance areas like Coolidge Corner, Washington Square, and the Fenway.

The rooms at the Beacon Inn receive mixed, but often positive, commentary regarding their size and decor. Many guests have reported "really nice big room" for a "great price," highlighting the spaciousness as a significant advantage, especially for the cost. The rooms are generally described as "warmly decorated" with a "unique design" and "distinctive touches," some even featuring fireplaces or in-room tubs. Standard amenities include air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, telephone, and a desk. While the decor might lean towards "oldschool classic," maintaining the historical feel, guests should be aware that some elements, like the bathrooms, are "older." Some rooms may have private bathrooms that are detached or across the hall, which can be a "new experience" for some guests. However, it's important to note the stark contrast in reviews regarding cleanliness and maintenance. While some guests found their room to be "clean," others have reported "brown hairs EVERYWHERE," "stains" on sheets, and an "unbearable" smell of "mildew and mold," alongside "yellow stains" on the ceiling. These negative experiences suggest inconsistency in room condition, which is a critical factor for potential guests. Temperature control also appeared to be an issue for at least one guest, who found their room "so cold" in January they had to sleep in a winter coat.

Regarding services, the Beacon Inn generally provides a streamlined bed-and-breakfast type experience. The staff is described as "super nice and accommodating" by some, with particular praise for their flexibility in allowing changes to check-in times and late check-outs. This level of personalized assistance can significantly enhance a guest's stay. However, contrasting reviews suggest a lack of consistent staff availability, with one guest noting "the concierge was almost always gone" and "no one was around when there were no bowls or water during breakfast hours," or when only one towel was provided for two people at night. The check-in window is typically from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with guests needing to inform the property in advance for late arrivals. Check-out is by 11:00 AM. A "light complimentary continental breakfast" is served informally in the guest reception/lobby from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM, with "coffee and tea available throughout the day." This provides a "great little snack to get your day started." The inn also offers luggage storage and can assist with tour/ticket information. Limited parking is available on-site, but guests "MUST RESERVE A PARKING SPOT IN ADVANCE BY TELEPHONE" as it cannot be booked online and is offered for a fee (e.g., USD 33-50 per night). Express check-in/check-out is also available. It's noted that pets are not allowed, and guests are expected to be quiet between 8:00 PM and 10:00 AM, with no parties or events permitted.

The Beacon Inn's features lean towards practicality and a homely feel rather than extensive luxury. Its primary features are its comfortable rooms, a simple breakfast offering, and its highly desirable location. The free Wi-Fi in all rooms and public areas is a valued amenity for staying connected. The 25 guestrooms are spread between two brownstones. The overall impression from positive reviews is that it’s "great to use as a place to sleep," providing a clean and comfortable base for exploring. The inn's focus is on providing a "home away from home" experience in a historic setting, which for many travelers, especially those on a budget or seeking an authentic local feel, is exactly what they desire from a "Hotel Near Me."

In terms of promotional information, the Beacon Inn positions itself as an "affordable stay" offering "good value" in an otherwise expensive area. Its "great price" for a "really nice big room" is a key selling point. While specific promotional packages are not explicitly detailed, the core promotional message is centered around providing "pleasant accommodations at affordable rates" in a prime location. The fact that it's a "fantastic alternative to traditional hotels" and allows guests to "live as locals do in our convenient Brookline neighborhood" is a strong draw. The presence of positive reviews highlighting its "great location," "comfortable" beds, and "friendly and helpful staff" when available, serves as informal promotion. However, potential guests should also be aware of the "strongly caution" from negative reviews regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and staff responsiveness, which may impact their decision-making. Given the mixed feedback, potential guests should carefully consider their priorities: if a prime location, a charming historic building, and a larger room at a competitive price are paramount, and they are prepared for a more independent stay possibly with some quirks typical of older buildings, the Beacon Inn could be a suitable choice. However, if consistent luxury service and guaranteed pristine conditions are higher priorities, it might be advisable to inquire directly about specific room conditions or consider other options within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category.

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. My room was unbearable. The SMELL was crazy, mildew and mold, and the ceiling had yellow stains. I was travelling in January and had to sleep in my winter coat it was so cold. There were brown hairs EVERYWHERE—inside the sheets, on the counter, in the bathroom. The sheets had stains. Staff were extremely rude. They barged into my room while I was asleep to go through the motions of “fixing my problem” so they wouldn’t have to give me a refund. I did not feel comfortable or safe in the situation, and decided to leave the property (and lose the money they would not refund me). Strongly caution other travellers to avoid this location. It is DIRTY and the staff are unkind.

I would be very careful booking here, it's one of those remote management places with no customer service and they designed it to just charge you lots of fees and trap you with no ability to cancel like normal hotels/stays. It's really not worth the savings.

I would avoid staying here, lots of hidden fees, can’t reach management for communication, poorly setup. Was a big hassle and not worth the few dollars of cost saving over other options.

This review is based on poor customer service. We had a 2 night stay in a first floor room. Day 2 we had left for the day to go to a Red Sox game. Came back to our room and immediately noticed some of our bathroom items had been moved but figured it was because they had cleaned the room because also the beds were made. I used the restroom. As I stood in front of the sink I saw water drip from the ceiling so I looked up and saw several ceiling tiles gone, dirty water spots in the sink, and noticed the socks I was wearing were getting wet from where I was standing in front of the sink. It became obvious there had been a major water leak. We then noticed several of our personal items were either soaking wet or were gone all together. One missing item was an electric toothbrush and one thing that got wet was a handmade leather toiletries bag. We immediately told the front desk staff on duty. He said he knew that there had been a leak in the room above ours but didn’t know that our room had been affected. He got on the phone with someone and said the person who handled it claimed he hadn’t done anything with our personal items even though they were gone. No one had bothered to contact us when the leak happened to let us know. I understand this is an old converted building and leaks happen, but to not even call us to let us know it happened and just let us find everything the way we did? The desk staff person did move us to another room on our insistence, which was good, but it has now been 2 weeks since our stay and they have not done anything to remedy the inconvenience of this experience or the fact that some of our personal items were destroyed and some missing. No one was available at the desk to talk to later that evening or the next morning even though it was after 8am on a Monday. Someone called us after we returned home and asked us to “prove” that our items were ruined or missing (prove you once had something and now you don’t??) and never offered to give us a refund, even partially, for our stay. Needless to say, we will not be staying here ever again due to the poor customer service by the management.
