We booked this place for the Boston Marathon in April 2020. When the race was cancelled due to Covid-19, I reached out to cancel. I was told that as "per the terms of the bookings" they couldn't refund me the 33% deposit (which was terrible customer service as there were circumstances way outside of my control that forced me to cancel), but they'd cancel it and re-list it so if they were to re-rent it, I'd maybe get my money back. Ridiculous! Then a day after I was supposed to check in (Sunday prior to the original race day) I get an email from booking.com that I was a no-show. What?!?! So, not only did this property not consider the situation (force majeure) but they didn't even try to re-rent it, so they took the easy way out to just ignore me. I reached out to booking.com, and the response was "sorry, we can't do anything as the property has those rules and you have to reach out to them." I definitely won't use either of them again for any future bookings and would highly recommend anyone that is considering staying here to only book it if you are 100% certain you will make it and won't have a pandemic change your plans! Extremely extremely disappointing.
Bluebird Suites, with a listed address of BOST-1000308000, 380 Riverway, Boston, MA 02115, USA, and contact numbers (844) 890-9076 and +1 844-890-9076, operates as a provider of serviced apartments or corporate housing, rather than a traditional hotel. When considering "Hotels Near Of Me," potential guests should understand that Bluebird Suites offers apartment-style living, which typically includes more space and amenities like full kitchens compared to standard hotel rooms. However, based on recent customer reviews, prospective guests should proceed with caution and a thorough understanding of their booking terms and conditions, as well as manage expectations regarding property conditions and customer service.
The address 380 Riverway places Bluebird Suites in a strategic and desirable location within Boston, specifically bordering the vibrant Longwood Medical Area. This area is a global hub for healthcare, research, and academia, home to world-renowned institutions such as:
Beyond its medical and academic connections, the 380 Riverway location offers access to Boston's rich cultural and recreational landscape. Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, is within reasonable proximity, appealing to sports enthusiasts. The Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are also nearby, offering significant cultural attractions. The "Riverway" itself implies proximity to green spaces and walking paths along the historic Emerald Necklace park system, providing opportunities for outdoor recreation and a more serene environment compared to the dense urban core. Public transportation via the 'T' (subway) is accessible, connecting guests to downtown Boston and other city attractions. The neighborhood is generally considered affluent and safe, contributing to a comfortable stay, provided the interior conditions of the individual units meet expectations.
As a serviced apartment provider, Bluebird Suites offers a different set of services compared to a traditional hotel. The core service is providing fully furnished apartments for short-term or extended stays. These typically include:
Full Kitchens: A key advantage of serviced apartments is the inclusion of a fully equipped kitchen, allowing guests to prepare their own meals, which can be a significant cost-saver, especially for longer stays. This contrasts with hotels that offer limited kitchenette facilities. The expectation is that these kitchens would be clean and fully functional with appropriate kitchenware.
Laundry Facilities: Apartments typically come with in-unit or building-level laundry facilities, offering convenience that often isn't found in standard hotel rooms.
More Space: Serviced apartments generally offer more living space than a hotel room, often with separate living, dining, and sleeping areas, which is ideal for families or those needing room to work or relax.
Customer Service (with significant caveats): While the intention is to provide support, customer reviews highlight serious concerns regarding Bluebird Suites' responsiveness and willingness to assist guests, especially in unforeseen circumstances or when issues arise with the property. The review mentioning refusal of refunds due to a major event like the Boston Marathon cancellation and a "no-show" email despite cancellation attempts points to a rigid and unaccommodating customer service policy. Another review details "absolutely unwilling" home office staff when faced with "poor living conditions," indicating a severe lack of problem resolution and care for guest well-being, particularly for a family visiting for a medical procedure.
Cleaning Services: Typically, serviced apartments include periodic cleaning services, though the frequency can vary. However, the review mentioning "dusty" furniture and floors, "dirty walls," and "POOP on the door frame and on the wall" raises serious concerns about the actual cleanliness standards of the properties provided by Bluebird Suites.
Bluebird Suites aims to offer features associated with comfortable apartment living, but customer feedback indicates a significant disconnect between what is advertised or expected and the reality of the guest experience:
Furnished Apartments: The core feature is providing furnished apartments. The expectation is that furniture is clean, well-maintained, and arranged logically. However, reviews mention "furniture was dusty," and a "Sofa blocked the entry into the bedroom," suggesting poor layout or maintenance.
Private Spaces: Guests would expect private, self-contained living spaces. However, issues like "used towel left in a bedroom" point to a lack of thorough preparation or inspection between guests.
Home-like Amenities: Beyond the kitchen, features like comfortable bedding, entertainment options, and a functional living environment are expected. The review's description of "poor living conditions" directly contradicts the idea of a comfortable home-like stay.
Pet-Friendly (potentially): The mention of "dog food was found on the carpet" implies that some units might be pet-friendly, or at least have previously hosted pets, without adequate post-stay cleaning. While being pet-friendly is a feature for some, the cleanliness issue associated with it is a major negative.
Varying Unit Quality: The comment "The three apartments they showed us were all pretty much the same" suggests a consistent (and negative) standard across multiple units, indicating a systemic issue rather than an isolated incident.
Building Amenities: While not directly mentioned in the reviews, apartment buildings at this address might offer shared amenities like gyms, lounges, or communal outdoor spaces. However, the issues with the apartment interiors would likely overshadow any perceived benefits of common areas.
Unlike traditional hotels that actively promote their amenities and service excellence, the most impactful "promotional information" for Bluebird Suites, based on the provided reviews, comes from the negative experiences of past customers. This serves as a significant cautionary message for anyone considering booking with them via "Hotels Near Of Me":
Strict Cancellation Policies: The experience of the Boston Marathon cancellation, where a 33% deposit was withheld despite force majeure circumstances and a failure to re-list the property, is a stark warning. This suggests an inflexible and potentially unfair booking policy, especially during unprecedented events. Prospective guests should "only book it if you are 100% certain you will make it and won't have a pandemic change your plans!" This directly counters the idea of flexible travel planning.
Questionable Cleanliness Standards: The detailed accounts of "dusty," "dirty," and unsanitary conditions, including "POOP on the door frame," are extremely damaging. This directly undermines the fundamental expectation of cleanliness in any accommodation. This information serves as a strong deterrent for health-conscious travelers or families, especially those with young children or visiting for medical reasons.
Unresponsive Customer Service: The description of "absolutely unwilling to help" staff and a refusal to refund despite "poor living conditions" paints a picture of highly problematic customer support. This is a critical factor for any accommodation provider, as good service is paramount when issues arise.
High-Risk Booking: The combined issues presented in the reviews strongly suggest that booking with Bluebird Suites carries a high risk of dissatisfaction, both in terms of property condition and customer resolution. The advice to "definitely won't use either of them again" is a powerful negative recommendation.
In conclusion, while Bluebird Suites at 380 Riverway, Boston, MA, theoretically offers the benefits of serviced apartment living (more space, kitchens, etc.) in a highly desirable location near Boston's medical and academic hubs, the overwhelming negative customer reviews raise severe concerns regarding their cleanliness standards, property maintenance, and, most critically, their customer service and refund policies. For local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," it is imperative to consider these significant red flags. Prospective guests are strongly advised to seek more reputable and transparent accommodation providers to ensure a comfortable, clean, and secure stay, especially when traveling for critical reasons such as medical procedures.

May 01, 2020 · Alexandra DreuNo stars at all. We were forced to leave the property because they refused to move us due to poor living conditions. The three apartments they showed us were all pretty much the same. The furniture was dusty as well as the floors, walls were dirty and had white caulking on them, dog food was found on the carpet, POOP on the door frame and on the wall. Sofa blocked the entry into the bedroom, used towel left in a bedroom. The entry way into a bedroom was blocked by the nightstand. Home office staff was absolutely unwilling to help. We were there for a medical procedure at Boston children's. They refused to refund us our money even though we did not stay there.
Nov 12, 2019 · Alina SacuSo far we haven't been able to enjoy this property at all. It's 1:30 in the morning and the room below us is having a party - bass blasting, dozens of people. So much for the security of the building - apparently you can just go down and let anyone in. The are people on fifth floor, out in the hallway, just leaned up against the walls. I've called the emergency number on my paperwork twice and been to the lobby twice. The property only has a single on-site manager - and he's been to their room several times now. He has no one here to assist him with something like this. Even if they get it calmed down, we've still lost a full night's sleep. We'll be discussing this with management again tomorrow.
May 25, 2019 · James TooleMy friends and i stayed at the bluebird day in a few weeks ago and cannot say enough great things about it! the owner is super friendly, responsive and was always helpful with anything going above and beyond it is only a 5 minute drive to Heavenly mountain and cannot get any better than that! I would recommend to anyone and we will be coming back! Thank you again!
Feb 02, 2022 · Clayton HuffI’m not sure how anyone could give this place a bad rating. My family and I stayed here for vacation and the room was excellent. It was a full apartment equipped with furniture and kitchenware. We have a big family (of 7) so for this place to really fit our needs and cleanliness was an absolute plus. We had a 3 bedroom with 2 bathrooms. Definitely recommend. Full kitchen that is great to cook in. Convenient location. I plan to come back.
