Dated hotel, fantastic location, lovely staff. You get what you pay for. If you want high end, immaculate and modern this is not for you. Budget, a room with a loud fridge (turn off), needs decorating (but clean and just a place to dump stuff and sleep), easy for shopping, night life, conference centre and culture, it's fabulous. Food downstairs, lovely staff and a park next door. For the price it's great. Overlook noise from lift, shitty film on windows. If picky, this is not for you. If you get on with it and think of the budget off season price, it's great.
Hello there, fellow Louisianans! When planning a visit to the vibrant heart of our state, New Orleans, finding the right place to stay is key. We're here to give you an honest overview of the Blake Hotel New Orleans, BW Signature Collection. This hotel, located on the historic St. Charles Avenue, offers a unique proposition for those looking to immerse themselves in the city's energy without necessarily breaking the bank. It's a choice that might particularly appeal to locals seeking a convenient and budget-conscious way to experience a New Orleans getaway.
The Blake Hotel, part of the BW Signature Collection, is described by some as a place where "you get what you pay for," highlighting its value-oriented approach. As one reviewer candidly put it, "If you want high end, immaculate and modern this is not for you. Budget, a room with a loud fridge (turn off), needs decorating (but clean and just a place to dump stuff and sleep), easy for shopping, night life, conference centre and culture, it's fabulous. For the price it's great." This perspective suggests that if your priority is an unbeatable location and a functional, clean space to sleep while you explore, this hotel could be a smart choice.
However, it's also important to have a balanced view. While many guests appreciate the hotel's value and location, some experiences have been less than ideal, with a review detailing significant maintenance issues and a rigid refund policy. This indicates that while the price point can be attractive, expectations regarding the level of modern amenities and immediate problem resolution should be managed carefully. For locals considering a stay, it’s about weighing the exceptional location and friendly staff against the potential for an older, less polished environment. The consensus, particularly from those who value location and budget, points to "lovely staff" and a place that's "fabulous" for accessing the city's highlights.

For us, the people of Louisiana, choosing a hotel in New Orleans often comes down to a balance of location, experience, and value. The Blake Hotel New Orleans, BW Signature Collection presents a compelling option for those seeking a convenient and budget-conscious way to enjoy our beloved city, especially if you prioritize being in the heart of the action.
The most significant advantage for locals is undoubtedly the hotel's "fantastic location" on St. Charles Avenue. Being directly on the streetcar line means effortless exploration of the city, from the historic Garden District to the vibrant French Quarter, without the need for driving or expensive rideshares. You can easily stroll to Bourbon Street for a night out, visit the Convention Center for an event, or enjoy the culture around Lafayette Square – all within easy reach. This accessibility allows us to fully immerse ourselves in the New Orleans experience without the typical tourist transportation woes.
While some modern amenities might be "dated," the "lovely staff" and the overall value for the "budget off season price" are considerable draws. For a quick getaway, a concert, or a Saints game, having a clean room with a "comfy king size bed" and a great location to "dump stuff and sleep" can be exactly what's needed. The convenience of "food downstairs" at Cafe at the Square means you don't have to venture far for a meal, and having Lafayette Square "next door" offers a nice green space to unwind.
It's important to set expectations that this is a value-focused hotel rather than a luxury resort. However, for locals who are familiar with New Orleans and prioritize prime location and affordability over cutting-edge decor, the Blake Hotel offers a practical and enjoyable base. It’s an opportunity to experience the city's lively scene and cultural richness from a truly central spot, making it a "great" choice for a genuine, no-frills New Orleans adventure right here at home.

May 20, 2025 · Richard ShaddickI don’t usually leave reviews, but this experience was too terrible not to share. I booked a room at this hotel and was shocked when I walked in—there was an actual pipe hanging from the shower, leaking some kind of unknown liquid. The walls had holes, the room was filthy, and it was immediately clear I couldn’t stay there. I asked for a refund right away, only to be told that the owner wouldn’t be available until 8 a.m. the next day—meaning I had nowhere to go for the night unless I paid for it. Because they refused to refund the first night, I had to pay even more to stay somewhere else. I ended up going to the Aloft hotel for the same price, and it was a night-and-day difference—modern, clean, and safe. To make matters worse, the owner still charged me for two nights even though I didn’t stay there. They claimed the booking was “non-refundable” and also charged me for parking—even though I was only on the property for about an hour while trying to resolve the issue. No manager on call, no effort to move me to a different room, just an inflexible policy and poor service. It honestly felt like a scam to get a night’s charge out of unsuspecting guests. The room itself was in unacceptable condition—unsanitary, unsafe, and not at all what was advertised. I can usually tolerate a lot when traveling, but a leaking ceiling pipe is a serious health concern. I’ll be disputing the charges with my credit card company. My advice: skip this place and spend a little extra for a hotel that prioritizes cleanliness, safety, and basic professionalism. This isn’t worth the stress, 2 hours + on the phone fighting, or the cost.
May 03, 2025 · Melanie Jade ScottNice and reasonably priced hotel conveniently located in downtown New Orleans. My room was clean and tidy with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and roomy and the shower had good pressure. The room charges don't include breakfast nor parking. There's a restaurant in the hotel and valet parking for like fifty bucks. Overall a good experience, definitely recommend.
May 18, 2025 · P SThe swingshift and night front desk staff were amazing. I admit that I didn't interact with the morning or day staff much, but when I did, they were helpful. However, being a Best Western signature collection property, I would like to have seen a better maintained property. Nevertheless, the location is very well situated to be able to explore the city with easy use of public transportation and walking.
Jun 05, 2025 · Andrea TaggartFor the price of this hotel, I would say that it's 100% worth it. The location was perfect for being able to park the car the entire time we were there and walk everywhere. The room was clean, but a bit small. It was big enough for what we needed it for. The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but hotels usually aren't. They did replace our towels and took the trash while we were gone. The biggest inconvenience was the elevator to the right. It was very well used and took forever. It was full most of the time. But once we discovered the left elevator, no waiting at all.
