Public areas are fairly recently renovated. On arriving, as a status member with Hilton, I had a room which was a corner, which I am, assuming was an upgrade; however, when I walked in and opened the door to the bathroom and immediately hit me with a huge smell of mildew. I then tried to chat them through the app and it took over 15 minutes before I just decided to take all my stuff back downstairs to try to get a new room. They were helpful at the front desk and did give me a new room. What I found in the room was the following… No space for refrigerator so it’s out in the floor area to the right of the dresser. The outlets next to the bed did not work at all so in the morning when I woke up, my phone was almost dead. The bathrooms were decent sized, although you could tell they had done a lipstick on a pig for the cabinets. Very old need to be renovated. In the morning, they gave me a free voucher for the breakfast… Which I technically didn’t need because of status I get that for free but… Went down to the bistro where some of the staff basically don’t know about service. They weren’t discourteous -they just weren’t overly helpful. as an airport hotel, I guess this is to be somewhat expected. I just stayed at three Doubletree in a row, and this was by far the least in terms of overall experience
For individuals utilizing platforms like "Hotels Near Of Me" to find accommodations, particularly those seeking proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Newark Airport, located at 128 Frontage Rd, Newark, NJ 07114, USA, is a prominent option. The hotel can be contacted at (973) 690-5500 or via mobile at +1 973-690-5500. As part of the globally recognized Hilton brand, DoubleTree hotels are generally known for a certain standard of comfort and service, often characterized by a warm chocolate chip cookie upon arrival. This introduction will provide an objective overview of the hotel, covering its environment, services, features, and any relevant promotional information, drawing from various online sources and a range of customer reviews, both positive and highly critical.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Newark Airport is strategically situated on Frontage Road, placing it directly adjacent to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This location is its most significant environmental feature, offering extreme convenience for travelers flying into or out of EWR. The hotel is typically within a 5-minute drive of the airport terminals, making it an ideal choice for early morning departures, late-night arrivals, or layovers. Its proximity to the airport means guests should anticipate considerable aircraft noise; however, the hotel is generally equipped with soundproofing to mitigate this impact. Despite its convenient airport access, the immediate surrounding area is primarily industrial or commercial, with little to nothing within walking distance for dining, shopping, or entertainment. This necessitates reliance on the hotel's on-site facilities, delivery services, or transportation. For guests looking to venture further, downtown Newark, including attractions like the Prudential Center and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, is a short drive away. New York City's myriad attractions are also accessible, approximately 10-12 miles away, via taxi, ride-sharing, or the AirTrain to NJ Transit/PATH trains. While the public areas of the hotel have reportedly undergone recent renovations, suggesting a modern and appealing interior, the overall impression of the property, as conveyed by some critical reviews, might suggest a need for more comprehensive updates beyond the common spaces to enhance the guest experience throughout.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Newark Airport provides a range of services typically expected from a full-service airport hotel. A key service is the complimentary 24-hour airport shuttle, offering convenient transportation to and from EWR terminals. This service is consistently highlighted as a major benefit for guests. The hotel features a 24-hour front desk, ensuring round-the-clock assistance for check-in (from 3:00 PM) and check-out (by 12:00 PM). As a DoubleTree by Hilton property, guests are traditionally welcomed with a warm chocolate chip cookie, a signature gesture of the brand. For dining, the hotel offers an on-site restaurant, Bistro 128, which serves American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Room service is also available during limited hours. While the breakfast offering is a highlight for many, especially Hilton Honors status members who may receive it for free, some reviews indicate that the service staff at the bistro, while not discourteous, may not be "overly helpful." Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, including in guest rooms and public areas, crucial for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel also provides a 24-hour business center, meeting and event spaces, and luggage storage. Express check-in and check-out are available. The property is pet-friendly, allowing dogs up to 75 lbs, with specific weight limits and conditions. For accessibility, the hotel offers accessible rooms and facilities. Dry cleaning/laundry service is also provided. The hotel generally aims to provide a professional environment for various types of travelers.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Newark Airport comprises 378 non-smoking rooms and suites spread across 12 floors. Rooms are equipped with signature DoubleTree Sweet Dreams® beds, designed for comfort. Standard in-room amenities typically include air conditioning, a flat-screen television with premium channels, a work desk with an ergonomic chair, a coffeemaker, iron/ironing board, and a hairdryer. All rooms feature a private bathroom with a shower/tub combination and complimentary toiletries. Many rooms and suites also include a mini-fridge and microwave, which are valuable features for extended stays or for heating up quick meals. While some reviews mention that the public areas are recently renovated and aesthetically pleasing, specific feedback about room features suggests a mixed bag. Some guests have reported issues such as refrigerators being placed inconveniently (e.g., on the floor), non-functional power outlets near beds, and bathrooms appearing dated with "lipstick on a pig" renovations, indicating older cabinetry. This suggests that while some upgrades have been made, they might not be comprehensive across all guest rooms. The hotel boasts a 24-hour fitness center, allowing guests to maintain their workout routines. For events and meetings, the hotel offers 18,000 square feet of versatile event space, including 15 meeting rooms and a Grand Ballroom, capable of accommodating up to 900 guests. This makes it a suitable venue for conferences, corporate events, and social gatherings. On-site self-parking is available for a fee. Despite the mixed reviews on room condition, the core features of a comfortable bed and functional amenities are generally present, along with robust event capabilities.
As a Hilton brand property, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Newark Airport actively participates in the Hilton Honors loyalty program, offering members various benefits such as discounted rates, earning points for stays, digital check-in and digital key access, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Promotions are frequently run through the Hilton website and major online travel agencies (OTAs) like Expedia, Booking.com, Kayak, and Hotels.com. These may include seasonal sales, advance purchase discounts, or specific packages (e.g., "Park & Fly" options, though these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews). The hotel also promotes its direct airport shuttle service as a key convenience. The on-site restaurant and extensive meeting/event facilities are significant promotional aspects, attracting both business and leisure travelers. The signature warm chocolate chip cookie upon arrival is a unique brand promotion that enhances the guest experience. However, it is crucial for prospective guests to be aware of the highly critical reviews that express strong dissatisfaction with the hotel's upkeep, staff responsiveness to issues, and perceived lack of care from management. While the hotel aims to offer a comfortable experience, particularly for airport travelers, the severity of some negative feedback, including reports of poor room conditions and a lack of accountability, indicates that potential guests searching on "Hotels Near Of Me" should exercise caution and thoroughly review recent guest experiences before booking. The hotel's response to negative reviews, described as "cookie cutter dismissal," further suggests that while it is a Hilton property, the specific operational experience here might not consistently meet the brand's expected standards for some guests.

May 15, 2025 · Michele WendellThis place is 3 stars for good reason. It should definitely be lower. [And watch, a hotel employee is going to jump on here and give a remarkably phony apology, just as is done with all the other bad reviews, yet... not a single remedy will be made. Why? Because the hotel staff and management here DO NOT CARE. If they did, most of these poor reviews would not be here. The same problems persist and persist and persist. Phony apology. ] If you have any self-respect, you will NOT do business with this hotel. As a company, we will never again subject our employees or clients to such a poor, lame duck hotel as this, ever again. We actually had to apologize to our employees for their experience here, and we immediately aborted 32 fourteen day reservations for the next incoming set of team members. If you are wanting to provide a positive living arrangement for either clients, employees or friends, or family, you should NOT do business with this hotel. You've been warned. ‐--------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Response to manager reply below - As predicted, a representative for this hotel has swooped in to brush off accountability. Read what i said. We ABORTED making the reservations for our incoming groups, which were going to be 14 personal on May 20th, 10 personal on June 1st and 8 HSE personal on June 18th. We WERE going to make those reservations, but decided against it due to our present employees experience. You never got the chance to see those reservations, and you never will. The fact that you have jumped on here and given you cookie cutter dismissal only serves to verify my complaints, which have clearly fallen on def ears.
May 16, 2025 · Lord Of A FlyWe had an early morning flight and since all the airport hotels (even Marriott) require a shuttle, I booked the cheapest one using points (equivalent of about $115 all included). The shuttle (holds 9-10 passengers) picks up at P4 off the AirTrain and ran consistently about every 25 minutes (we just missed the first one), and is a 7-10 minute ride each way. The morning return also team on time at top of the hour and half the hour. Actually the inside looks modern and remodeled and is very open and nice. Nothing nearby you can walk to other than the excellent Ted's bar and grill next door at Holiday Inn. The rooms are modern and nice with free coffee and good Crabtree & Evelyn bathroom products. The small bathroom unfortunately is from the 80s and pretty beat up. The shower is hot but the faucet is mounted at under 5 feet so prepare to crouch. Big comfortable bed with amusingly small (but comfortable) pillows. Free Chocolate chip cookies (including allergy free variety) at front desk. No free breakfast. Overall this was a great airport hotel and a good value.
Mar 25, 2025 · Jason ZahnThe rooms and lobby are nice enough. Beds are comfortable. However do not plan on any level of normal check in time. 4pm. That's rather late for check ins. The parking is usually chaotic. Nice hotel building wise though.
May 23, 2025 · Greg PowersI think most of us staying in a airport hotel cause we want a good rest from all the travelling. We were told that the shuttle is only from P4 which is inconvenient to get to with all the luggage. After waiting for 30 mins, I called the hotel to inform them that there were a lot of people waiting for the shuttle and asked if they could 2 shuttles and was ignored. The lady (she say she's called Renee, not sure if it's her real name) just said one is on its way. She didn't sound like she's trying to make things work. So 1 shuttle came after 40 mins and as expected a big group of us couldn't get on the shuttle. Some of them couldn't wait any longer and called a uber to go to the hotel. I waited for another 15 mins for the next shuttle to come. I think an hour wait for a airport shuttle is unacceptable. We just wanted a good night rest before our early flight next morning. And the expectation for double tree is to get a warm cookie upon arrival and they say that they ran out of it. Terrible experience. Will never book this place again. Other shuttles from marriott etc has already came 4 times during our wait. In addition, when we arrived we tried to ask for room service but no one picked up after 30 mins. In addition, I called the cs on my phone also no one bothered to respond. Terrible service.
