It was great for the price. Very quiet. A little bit dirty and the staff is never available. But that being said,I will be staying again in the future. Compared to other rooms in the $100 a night price range...this was definitely the least sketchy.

Federal City Inn & Suites Introduce

For those of us here in Louisiana, or for visitors looking for a practical and budget-conscious way to experience the magic of New Orleans, Federal City Inn & Suites presents an intriguing option. Located across the Mississippi River in the historic Algiers neighborhood, this hotel offers a different perspective on staying in the Crescent City – one that emphasizes affordability and convenience, particularly for those with a car or looking for cruise parking. It’s a choice that allows you to stretch your travel budget further while still having easy access to all the iconic attractions New Orleans is famous for.

Federal City Inn & Suites is situated within the Federal City complex, an area with a unique history that provides a quiet and secure environment. While it might not be in the immediate bustle of the French Quarter, its location offers a more relaxed pace, appealing to guests who prefer a peaceful retreat after a day of exploration. The rooms are designed to offer more than just a place to sleep, often featuring kitchenettes that provide the flexibility of preparing your own meals, which can be a significant cost-saver, especially for longer stays.

It's important to set expectations with any budget-friendly accommodation. While Federal City Inn & Suites is recognized for its value, offering clean, spacious rooms for the price, some past guest feedback has mentioned occasional challenges with cleanliness and front desk availability. However, many guests consistently highlight its quiet atmosphere and overall affordability as key benefits. For the savvy traveler or local needing a functional base, this hotel aims to provide a straightforward and economical stay in New Orleans.

Location and Accessibility

Federal City Inn & Suites is located at 740 Hebert St, New Orleans, LA 70114, USA. This places it in Algiers, on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, directly opposite the main downtown New Orleans area. This location offers a distinct advantage for those seeking value and convenience away from the most congested tourist zones.

For Louisiana residents traveling by car, reaching Federal City Inn & Suites is quite straightforward, with easy access from major highways. A significant highlight of this hotel is the availability of free self-parking on-site, including space for RVs, buses, and trucks. This is a considerable perk in New Orleans, where parking can often be scarce and expensive.

For those flying in, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is approximately 17-25 miles away, generally a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic. Taxis and ride-sharing services are available from the airport.

One of the most convenient ways to access the heart of New Orleans from Federal City Inn & Suites is via the Algiers Ferry. The Algiers Ferry Terminal is just a short drive (approximately 1.7 miles) from the hotel, providing a charming and affordable passenger-only ride across the Mississippi River. The ferry drops you right at the foot of Canal Street, putting you within easy walking distance of the French Quarter, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, Caesars New Orleans Casino, and the Riverwalk Marketplace. This ferry connection makes exploring the iconic parts of the city accessible without the need to drive and find parking on the East Bank. Additionally, the hotel's location offers proximity to attractions on the West Bank, such as the historic Algiers Point neighborhood with its local pubs and galleries, the Oakwood Center shopping mall, and the NOLA Motorsports Park. For those embarking on a cruise from the Port of New Orleans, the hotel's offer of complimentary long-term parking with a pre- and post-cruise stay is a highly valued service.

The desk was never manned. When we first walked in the desk receptionist was nowhere to be found. She showed up and starting fooling with paperwork, totally ignoring those who were waiting. After check in we went to our rooms. There were 3 families in our group and we each had a room. As soon as we walked in we went straight back to the desk to check out. The room was filthy. The tub was peeling. It is hard to describe but the places that were peeling up were sharp. They told us that they would charge us for the night if we left right away. We stayed but we're very unhappy about the condition of the room. The 2 other rooms were even worse. Water was leaking from the refrigerator in one room. The curtains were torn and hanging down. Their tubs were also peeling. I have pictures of the filth on the floor in the bathroom. Didn't look like they ever mopped. I would not recommend ths hotel.

We searched a lot for an affordable hotel in New Orleans and was surprised to find this one. It’s on an old Naval base and for me being a navy veteran I thought it would be cool. It is. It’s right by the Mississippi River with a cool track that you can walk right along the river. Right next to a great little town called Algiers with a Cool little pub called Dry Dock with great food. Anyway the staff was very helpful and friendly, the room was affordable. Very clean and well kept. I only gave the room a 4 because the plumbing is something to be desired. Toilets are a little hard to flush and the shower had terrible water pressure. Other wise all was great. Would stay there again for sure. Oh and the icing on the cake? A ferry that runs from Algiers point to canal st New Orleans. Such a great benefit and only 2 dollars a person per trip. Also has a fitness center with pool and splash pad across the street available to guests.

Rooms are a bit dated but it’s a nice property that was formally a Navy Lodge. Overall not bad for the price and in great proximity to the Algiers Ferry to get you downtown.
