We reserved a room with two beds, but instead received a suite with one bed and one pullout couch. We were told linens would be brought up for the couch, but that never happened. The floors are filthy and the staff is invisible. There isn’t a front desk, or a phone in our room. No one answers the number on the business card. Parking is free in the sense that you are free to find your own parking behind the building. I will never stay here again.

Georgetown Hill Inn Introduce

For residents of the District of Columbia and those seeking a more personal, apartment-style accommodation within our bustling city, the Georgetown Hill Inn at 1832 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007, USA, offers a distinct alternative to traditional hotels. This establishment, while having some unique characteristics that set it apart, has garnered attention for its prime location and its appeal to those looking for a longer-term, more self-sufficient stay. This article aims to provide a factual and engaging overview of the Georgetown Hill Inn from a local D.C. perspective, highlighting its unique features and suitability for various needs.

Unlike a conventional hotel with a bustling lobby and a constant front desk presence, the Georgetown Hill Inn appears to operate with a more independent, almost guest-house style. Reviews suggest a focus on providing a private, apartment-like experience, often with a dedicated owner or manager who can be a helpful point of contact. This setup can be particularly appealing to those who prefer a less formal environment and value space and the convenience of in-room amenities like a kitchen. It offers a chance to live like a local, even if just for a short while, experiencing the charm of the Georgetown area from a more residential vantage point. While some guests have noted areas for improvement, especially concerning initial communication and facilities, others have found it to be a fantastic value, praising its cozy atmosphere and spacious rooms, particularly for extended visits.

Location and Accessibility

The Georgetown Hill Inn is strategically located at 1832 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007, placing it firmly within the desirable and historic Georgetown neighborhood, bordering Glover Park. This location is one of its most significant assets, offering guests easy access to a wealth of D.C.'s most iconic attractions and local amenities.

Wisconsin Avenue itself is a major thoroughfare, providing direct routes to various parts of the city. While the inn is not directly adjacent to a Metro station, it is situated along primary bus routes (such as the D.C. Circulator or Metrobus lines) that can quickly connect guests to Metro stations like Dupont Circle (Red Line) or Foggy Bottom-GWU (Blue, Orange, Silver Lines). This allows for convenient and affordable travel to the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, the White House, and other governmental and cultural sites without the need for a personal vehicle.

The immediate vicinity of the Georgetown Hill Inn is highly walkable and offers a rich tapestry of experiences. Guests can easily stroll to the charming boutiques, upscale restaurants, and historic homes of Georgetown. For those with academic ties, Georgetown University is within a reasonable walking distance. Glover Park, a serene and safe residential area, provides a peaceful backdrop, and local parks are accessible for outdoor recreation. While parking is mentioned as "free" in some reviews, this refers to the freedom to find street parking behind the building, which in D.C. can be competitive. However, the presence of a restaurant below the inn, also owned by the proprietor, adds to the local convenience, offering a close dining option. This blend of historic charm, local amenities, and relative accessibility positions the Georgetown Hill Inn as a well-located option for exploring the best of Northwest D.C.

Services Offered

  • Flat-Screen TV: For in-room entertainment.

  • Sitting Area: Providing a comfortable space for relaxation within the room.

  • Long-Term Stay Potential: The apartment-like setup and kitchen facilities make it suitable for extended visits.

Features / Highlights

  • Fantastic Price and Location: A recurring theme in positive reviews is the excellent value for money, especially given its prime location in Georgetown.

  • Cozy, Spacious, Apartment-like Rooms: Guests appreciate the generous space, often feeling more like an apartment than a standard hotel room, complete with separate areas and well-sized kitchens. This is a significant draw for those seeking more than just a bed.

  • Personalized Service from Owner/Staff: Many guests highlight the helpfulness and sweetness of the owner, Javit, and the feeling of "renting from family members," creating a warm and personal atmosphere. This level of personalized care can be a strong differentiator.

  • Convenient On-Site Dining: The presence of a restaurant owned by the same proprietor directly below the inn offers a highly convenient option for meals, with service described as "impeccable."

  • Quiet and Personal Atmosphere: The inn offers a more intimate and less bustling experience compared to larger hotels, which some guests find very appealing for a relaxed stay.

  • Good for Long-Term Stays: The suite/apartment style with kitchen facilities makes it particularly well-suited for extended visits to D.C., offering a more home-like environment.

Promotions or Special Offers

Given the unique nature of the Georgetown Hill Inn, which appears to operate more as an independent, owner-managed establishment rather than a large chain hotel, formal, widely advertised promotions might be less common than with larger brands. However, guests seeking value or specific arrangements may find opportunities for offers by:

  • Direct Booking: Contacting the inn directly via phone is often the best way to inquire about any current deals, especially for longer stays or specific dates. Owners of independent properties often have flexibility to offer personalized rates.

  • Extended Stay Rates: Due to its apartment-like setup, the Georgetown Hill Inn is likely to offer more favorable rates for longer bookings (e.g., weekly or monthly rates) compared to nightly stays. It’s worth discussing your intended length of stay with them.

  • Mentioning Referrals: One review specifically noted, "Tell them Joy sent you ;)," suggesting that personal referrals might lead to a more personalized experience or potentially unadvertised consideration.

  • Off-Season or Last-Minute Deals: Inquire about availability during slower periods or for last-minute bookings, as these are times when independent properties might offer more competitive pricing.

It is crucial to communicate directly with the inn to ascertain any available offers or to negotiate rates, particularly for stays that deviate from a standard overnight booking.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For residents of the District of Columbia, the Georgetown Hill Inn offers a unique and compelling option that caters to several local needs, distinguishing itself from larger, more impersonal hotels.

Firstly, for those considering a "staycation" or a short escape within the city, the Inn provides an excellent opportunity for a change of scenery without the hassle of extensive travel. Its apartment-style rooms, often with kitchens, offer a true home-away-from-home feel, allowing you to relax, cook your own meals if desired, and enjoy the comforts of a private space. This is ideal for a weekend retreat, a special occasion, or simply when you need a quiet change of pace within your own city.

Secondly, if you frequently host out-of-town guests, especially for extended periods, the Georgetown Hill Inn presents a practical and charming solution. Instead of accommodating everyone in your own home, guests can enjoy their own spacious "apartment" in one of D.C.'s most sought-after neighborhoods. This arrangement offers privacy and independence for both you and your visitors, while still keeping them conveniently close to your residence and the city's attractions. The potential for longer-term stays makes it particularly suitable for guests who are in town for an academic semester at Georgetown University, an extended work assignment, or a lengthy visit to explore D.C.'s many facets.

Furthermore, for locals undergoing home renovations, unexpected emergencies requiring temporary lodging, or simply needing a comfortable and independent space for a period, the Georgetown Hill Inn’s apartment-like setup can be invaluable. It provides essential amenities like a kitchen, offering a level of self-sufficiency that a standard hotel room often lacks. The personalized service, often described as feeling like "renting from family members," can provide a comforting and supportive environment during such times. While it operates differently from a traditional hotel, its prime location, combined with the spacious and independent living arrangements, positions the Georgetown Hill Inn as a fitting and distinctive choice for many D.C. locals.

Fantastic price and location! Cozy, but with a lot of space in the rooms! Like an apartment, with a great sized kitchen. I love it here, Javit the owner is super sweet and helpful! Check out the restaurant below that he also owns with his son. The service is impeccable and it feels like renting from family members. Cozy and personal, really good for long term stays! Tell them Joy sent you ;)

A little worn. There's no lobby or regular staff available. Definitely more of an inn than a hotel. We had a suite with three people yet only had one bath towel. Good location and price for the area. Would we go back? I don't think my wife would be too happy.

Only giving one star as I cannot give zero. We booked a suite with a queen bed and a sofa as there were three of us traveling. When we arrived there was no one at the hotel, we went into the restaurant to ask if they knew how we could contact the manager only to find out this was the manager. We checked in got to the room, only to find that the so called sofa bed was filthy! And had no bedding. We called down to ask about switching rooms and were told there were no rooms left but the manager brought up bedding. It was later we realized there was no soap, and only a half roll of toilet paper. Also I'm not sure if this is a DC thing but everything electrical was plugged out and we had to plug it all in. The following day we had to call down to the manager to get more toiletries. The 2nd night at 1.30am an alarm started and didn't stop shortly after so we evacuated the building. Along with 2 other guests who were there too. No one else came out of the building though we heard others in other rooms. We waited about 30 mins but no one showed up. No police, fire or staff! Seemingly there is no staff on site after the restaurant closes. As we were visiting from abroad we had no phone to make calls so we went across the road to the safeway to ask the staff for assistance. They called the management, who said they would be on site in about 5 mins. About 20 mins later someone arrived, went into the building without addressing us and shortly after the alarm went off. Supposedly it was a powercut (just to the hotel) and that triggered the alarm. No one came back out after the alarm went off so rather than stand in the cold we went back to our rooms. The power did not come back on until the following morning. We checked out that morning and no one was there to see us out. I left the keys at the mgmt desk and left. Also, WiFi is free but spotty. Works between 6am and 8am but as more people come on line and the restaurant opens there is not enough bandwidth and it may as well not be there. Finally...when leaving we walked by the restaurant and noticed dinner plates from the night before had been left out on the tables. Awful experience. Avoid at all costs.

Georgetown Hill Inn is one of the nicest hotels in Arlington. The hotel staff were friendly and competent. The room provided was spacious with nice amenities. The buffet breakfast in the downstairs restaurant had a large variety of food choices, and the food was delicious! It is a pleasure to spend time there!
