Beautiful location next to the canal. Rolled in muddy and sweaty from our 7 days on thd trail. The whole staff was amazingly helpful. The rooms, showers and bed were great and all such a relaxing change. Kitchen was spotless and the coffee was delicious. Thank you for making the end of our trip so memorable despite the rain and mud.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll sense the dedication to creating a welcoming atmosphere, one that has clearly left a positive impression on previous guests. Let's explore what makes The Georgetown House a place worth considering for your next visit or recommendation.
The Georgetown House boasts an incredibly desirable address at 1061 31st St NW, Washington, DC 20007, USA. For those of us familiar with Washington D.C., this immediately signifies a prime spot within Georgetown, a neighborhood celebrated for its historic charm, upscale boutiques, diverse dining scene, and beautiful waterfront. What truly sets The Georgetown House apart in terms of location is its direct proximity to the C&O Canal. Imagine waking up and having the serene canal pathway right at your doorstep, perfect for a morning stroll, a run, or simply enjoying the peaceful atmosphere away from the bustling streets.
This location isn't just picturesque; it’s exceptionally convenient for exploring all that Georgetown has to offer. You’re just a stone's throw from the lively M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, where you'll find an abundance of high-end shops, independent boutiques, art galleries, and acclaimed restaurants catering to every palate. Whether you're looking for a casual coffee shop, a gourmet meal, or unique retail therapy, everything is within easy walking distance.
Beyond Georgetown, The Georgetown House offers excellent accessibility to the wider District. While Georgetown itself doesn't have a Metro station within immediate walking distance, numerous D.C. Circulator and WMATA bus lines operate very close by, providing direct connections to major Metro stations like Foggy Bottom-GWU (Blue, Orange, Silver lines) and Rosslyn (Blue, Orange, Silver lines in Virginia, just across the Key Bridge). These connections allow for seamless travel to iconic D.C. landmarks such as the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, the U.S. Capitol, and various government offices. For those arriving by car, while parking in Georgetown can be challenging, the central location minimizes the need for extensive driving once you've settled in. The proximity to major thoroughfares also makes it relatively easy to navigate to and from the property. This makes The Georgetown House an ideal base for both locals seeking a tranquil escape within the city and visitors eager to immerse themselves in D.C.'s rich history and vibrant culture.
While specific, real-time promotions for The Georgetown House are best confirmed directly through their official channels, establishments of this nature often provide various appealing offers, especially for return guests or during certain seasons. As locals, it's always a good idea to inquire about potential resident discounts, particularly if you're planning a mid-week escape or a spontaneous weekend getaway. You might find seasonal packages tailored to local events, such as special rates during Georgetown's annual French Market, holiday festivities, or university commencement periods, which could include perks like complimentary breakfast, late check-out, or even discounts at local partner businesses.
Given the intimate nature of the inn and the strong focus on customer service, it's not uncommon for them to offer loyalty incentives for repeat stays, as evidenced by a guest who has stayed "many times." While not explicitly stated, direct booking bonuses (e.g., a small percentage off the room rate, a welcome amenity) are often available when booking directly rather than through third-party sites. For the most current and accurate information on any ongoing promotions or special offers, including any packages designed with locals in mind, we strongly recommend visiting The Georgetown House's official website or contacting them directly via phone. A quick call to their friendly staff could unveil a perfect deal for your next Georgetown adventure or for accommodating your visitors.

For us residents of the District of Columbia, The Georgetown House offers a uniquely appealing proposition, whether we're planning a serene staycation, hosting beloved family and friends, or simply seeking a fresh perspective on our vibrant city. Its suitability for locals is underscored by several key attributes that genuinely resonate with the D.C. experience.
Firstly, its beautiful location next to the C&O Canal is an absolute standout. As locals, we appreciate the rare combination of urban convenience and natural tranquility. Imagine being able to step out and immediately access the picturesque canal path for a morning walk or run, offering a peaceful escape right in the heart of the city. This unique setting provides a sense of calm and a connection to nature that's often hard to find in a bustling metropolis. For those hosting visitors, this location offers an authentic taste of Georgetown’s historical charm, far beyond what a typical downtown hotel can provide, creating a truly memorable introduction to our city.
Secondly, the exceptionally high level of customer service makes The Georgetown House feel like a home away from home. The staff's "amazingly helpful" demeanor and the general manager's "quick follow-up," even in the middle of the night, speak volumes about their dedication to guest comfort. This personalized attention, which includes proactive solutions like offering a quieter room to ensure a good night's sleep, is invaluable. It’s the kind of care that transforms a simple stay into a truly relaxing and stress-free experience, a stark contrast to the often-impersonal feel of larger hotel chains. For a local seeking a genuine break, or for a family member visiting for the first time, this warmth and attentiveness can make all the difference.
While The Georgetown House is housed in an "old building" and may not be perfectly soundproofed, its charming, unique setup and the staff's responsiveness to any concerns more than compensate. The availability of a "spotless kitchen" and "delicious coffee" are also practical amenities that add to the comfort and convenience, especially for longer stays or for those who prefer to prepare their own light meals.
In essence, The Georgetown House is more than just an inn; it's a doorway to experiencing the best of Georgetown with an unparalleled sense of comfort and care. Its blend of an idyllic location, historical character, and outstanding customer service makes it an ideal choice for any District resident looking to enjoy a peaceful retreat within their own city or provide a charming, authentic D.C. experience for their cherished visitors.

Jun 17, 2025 · Craig CasselMy husband and I have stayed at this very conveniently located Inn many times and really appreciate the quick follow up by the general manager, Alexis Togoon, even in the middle of the night (a recent experience). The building is old and not well sound proofed and if fellow guests do not abide by the quiet hours from 10pm-8am, it can be harder to sleep. We experienced this while in a lower level room and I was gratified when Alexis responded at midnight by offering another, quieter room right away. This excellent customer service made all the difference; I had been thinking about finding a different place to stay while in town, much as we appreciate this unique set up/location. Because of Alexis, we chose to stay an extra night and are very happy all around. Thank you once again, Alexis, and well done! Holly
Jan 28, 2025 · Holly PersonalStayed here for a quick one nighters in DC for a conference the next day. The location is good with many stores and eating spots within walking distance. It also has too cheap and good access parking garages nearby. I always felt safe walking in the neighborhood. Everything in the rooms and shared kitchen was clean. The rooms were quite small but not really a problem for me as I was staying alone. I had to call for self check in but that's probably because I booked last minute. Either way, I would stay again.
Dec 14, 2024 · Malcolm CouncilWe stayed here 10/30 - 11/3 in Lock 11. Location is great, the street can get noisy but we didn't hear anything in our room. Service was great, we dropped our bags due to getting in early. When we went to check in, our bags were in our room. We had a living room with a futon (pulls down into a bed) and tv, bedroom had a tv, desk, other storage and rack to hang clothes and a bathroom, we also had a shared balcony facing the canal. The canal doesn't have any water due to construction to reinforce the walls (there is no construction currently going on so you don't have to worry about noise, just know you won't have a view of the water). It's about a 30 second walk to M street and less than 5 minutes to the water front. Using Uber the longest it took to get into or out of DC was 20 minutes (that was coming back from the American History museum around 4 on Halloween), with the average being around 10 for most of what we went in for. Another plus is on the bottom floor there is a full size shared fridge, microwave, toaster oven, Keurig, plates etc. It's great when you have leftovers from the fabulous restaurants in the area. We stayed at The Graham last year on the street over and I will definitely choose The Georgetown House when we come back.*** update*** also stayed at the town house from 1/14-1/17. It was very spacious, clean and can’t beat the location. Alexis is amazing.
Jan 18, 2025 · Jennifer WilliamsCouldn’t have picked a better place! My husband stayed here after completing our Pittsburgh to DC bike trip. The location is directly on the towpath! And the history of the building is directly linked to the towpath; they have lots of cool photos and info about it on the walls. We picked room Lock 6, since it has a second floor porch where we could safely keep our bikes. (Still locked them though for extra safety). And they even have cameras for additional safety. The rooms are very nicely updated. I also appreciated the quiet hours and it seemed everyone respected them. There was minimal noise from the bustling Georgetown businesses. I really loved the self service coffee in the lower level kitchen. It was nice to make a cup of coffee, sit on the porch and look at the canal before getting our day started. We will definitely be staying here again if/when we return.
