I stayed at The River Inn in Foggy Bottom for about two and a half weeks, and it truly lived up to its tagline of being a “second home.” This was honestly one of the nicest, most comfortable long-stay hotel experiences I’ve had. The location is a major plus—just a 3–4 minute walk from the Foggy Bottom metro station, with Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s nearby. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet, and the convenience factor is high. The rooms are spacious and homely, not luxurious or ultra-modern, but thoughtfully equipped with everything you’d need for a long stay: a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, essential cutlery, and a coffee maker; a comfortable bed; and a clean bathroom. Everything was neat and tidy. Housekeeping is flexible and based on your schedule, which I appreciated. That said, I did encounter a few minor issues. I stayed in two different rooms during my stay—while the first room was great with no complaints, the second room had an occasional unpleasant stench coming from the kitchen area. I flagged it with housekeeping a couple of times, but the issue persisted on and off. It seemed to be limited to the kitchen—possibly a drainage or pipeline issue—as the rest of the room was fine. The rooms are a bit dated overall and could benefit from a refresh, especially if you’re particular about newer finishes or fixtures. But functionally, they work well. What really stood out to me was the warmth and professionalism of the staff—everyone, from the front desk to the doormen, was genuinely friendly and eager to help. They made a long stay feel easy and welcoming. Despite the minor issue, I’d still highly recommend The River Inn—just be sure to check the room thoroughly upon check-in if you’re sensitive to smells or specific about freshness. I’d happily return, and I’d book it again in a heartbeat.

Jun 11, 2025 · Nikita LukeWe absolutely loved our stay here! Every staff member we met was warm, friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for us, too! We loved being able to easily walk to Georgetown, the Smithsonian’s, the Memorials, etc. If we find our way to DC again, this will be on the top of our list of places to stay again!
Jun 07, 2025 · Lauren SandersExcellent place to stay our family of 5. All the staff was amazing and extremely helpful. The room was comfortable and spacious enough for the entire family to have their own space to unwind at night. The neighborhood was beautiful and central to everything by foot, scooter or ride share. Highly recommend staying here.
Jun 17, 2025 · Mark WillisDefinitely a home away from home!! Everyone at the hotel was friendly and made me feel very welcome. After having my connecting flight delayed three times from Miami enroute to DC, it was such a relief to finally get to the River Inn and receives such wonderful hospitality. I would very much recommend anyone to stay at the hotel. In a safe location, great for single female travelers. I used google maps to walk around and was easily able to get to the amazon counter at whole foods as well as walk to the conference I was attending.
May 11, 2025 · Gretchen & Mat Tucker-LarocheThis hotel has been one of the best hotel stays in dc I’ve ever had! We came here for my husband’s birthday to see a play at the Kennedy center and see some museums. The hotel staff were super friendly and the front desk associate gave us a free bottle champagne to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The hotel was a 8 minute walk to the Kennedy center and about 8 minutes walk to the foggy bottom metro. We were able to find street parking right across from the hotel which I only recommend for weekends because it’s otherwise residential parking. There is a parking garage near the varsity, you can park in for like 10 dollars a day if your staying during the week. The room had a lot more amenities than we expected for the price we paid. it had a full kitchen with a stove and fridge stocked with dishes and silverware. The restaurant is really good too but very expensive imo , we didn’t get a chance to eat there during this stay but I’ve had their breakfast in the past and thought it was amazing.
