Firstly, I want to shout out to Alexandra and her staff, they’re amazing. I’m ashamed to admit, that I was a particularly needy guest on my first day, but that didn’t phase them at all. They had an answer and solution for everything! The hotel is beautiful, the aesthetic takes you back to a speakeasy, the only thing they’re missing are complimentary Cuban cigars, but they’re non smoking so I guess that makes sense. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the hotel smells like they never stop cleaning it. The area has a lot of fun stuff to do and plenty of places to eat. Would highly recommend a stay here!

Guild House Hotel Introduce

For those seeking an unparalleled and truly distinctive accommodation experience within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in Philadelphia, the Guild House Hotel is an exceptional choice. Located at 1307 Locust St, Philadelphia, PA 19107, USA, this boutique hotel is more than just a place to stay; it's a meticulously restored National Historic Landmark that masterfully blends deep historical significance with contemporary luxury and an innovative "invisible service" model.

The Guild House Hotel occupies a stately 1855 Italianate rowhome that was once the headquarters of the New Century Guild, a pioneering organization founded in 1882 to support working women in Philadelphia. This rich history is not just a footnote; it's woven into the very fabric and design of the hotel, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and profoundly meaningful. Each of the hotel's twelve individually designed rooms and suites is named after an influential woman from the Guild, with unique decor and subtle nods to their contributions and passions. This dedication to honoring women's history, combined with exquisite design, makes the Guild House Hotel a truly special destination.

Environment and Location:

The Guild House Hotel enjoys a prime location in Center City, specifically in the Washington Square West neighborhood, often recognized for its historic charm, tree-lined streets, and vibrant cultural scene. Locust Street itself is known for its beautiful architecture and proximity to various attractions. Guests are perfectly situated to explore Philadelphia's rich offerings:

Major shopping areas, including Walnut Street and Rittenhouse Row, are also just a short stroll away, offering a wide array of boutiques and retail experiences.
  • Historical Significance: While tucked away on a quieter street, the hotel still offers convenient access to Philadelphia's historical sites, including Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, which are reachable by a reasonable walk or quick transit ride.
  • Walkability: As noted by guests, the area has "a lot of fun stuff to do" and most things are "a good walking distance away," allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the city's charm without needing a car.

The blend of classic architectural details with modern furnishings and curated art creates an inviting and sophisticated ambiance throughout the property.

Services and Features:

The Guild House Hotel distinguishes itself with what guests refer to as "invisible service." This means a seamless, highly responsive, and personalized experience where staff are always "on call 24 hours a day, ready to serve," yet provide guests with "absolute privacy." They provide "an answer and solution for everything," demonstrating exceptional attentiveness and proactive assistance.

Key features and amenities that elevate the guest experience include:

  • Individually Designed Suites: Each of the 12 rooms and suites is unique, meticulously decorated to reflect the personality and contributions of a specific New Century Guild woman. This ensures a personalized and memorable stay, with guests often finding delightful details and surprises. Rooms are described as "spotlessly clean," and the hotel itself "smells like they never stop cleaning it," indicating a very high standard of hygiene.
  • Luxury Amenities with Local Touch: The hotel prides itself on sourcing amenities from minority and women-owned businesses, connecting guests with local Philadelphia talent. This includes "Fork & Melon toiletries," which are highly praised.
  • Premium Coffee Experience: Coffee lovers will appreciate the provision of "locally roasted coffee with Chemex/French Press" setups in the rooms, allowing for a gourmet coffee experience at leisure.
  • Local Baked Treats: Complimentary "local baked treats" are a delightful touch, offering a taste of Philadelphia's culinary scene right in the comfort of your room.
  • Comfort and Functionality: Rooms are well-equipped with modern comforts such as air-conditioning, free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and private bathrooms. Some suites may include a kitchenette or a washing machine. Beds are "perfect" and designed for ultimate comfort.
  • The Library: A common area, formerly the Guild's dining room, reimagined as a stylish and comfortable lounge. This space offers guests a quiet retreat, a place to enjoy coffee, or simply relax amidst the hotel's inspiring atmosphere. It serves as a subtle nod to the Guild's legacy as a gathering place for women.
  • Event Capabilities: The entire townhouse is also available for rent for private events, making it a unique venue for celebrations, retreats, or other gatherings that benefit from a historic and elegant setting.

We had a great 3 night vacation stay at Guild House. Our room was perfect, the invisible service excellent (staff responded immediately and courteously to any request within minutes) and the location was fantastic. The amenities including Fork & Melon toiletries along with locally roasted coffee with Chemex/French Press and local baked treats were great touches. We will definitely be staying at Guild House for any future Philly trips. Highly recommend.

Staying overnight in Philly when you live in the city’s burbs is very fun. My sons and I enjoyed a great stay at the Guild House in December. Located perfectly to great restaurants, bars, and the theaters, the hotel is a perfect respite from ordinary accommodations you often find in big cities. The buildings history is fascinating. We stayed in the Alice Suite; allowing for plenty of space for to relax. The baths are deluxe, the kitchenette is well stocked and the bed was amazingly comfy. Hats off to those who brought back Guild House; another great chapter in Philly history rejuvenated.

Stayed here a few times but never wrote up a review. Very nice hotel. Outstanding value when compared to other center city accommodations. No front desk but staff is very proactive stocking the rooms and lobby with miscellaneous things you may need, and they answer their text number very quickly. Should be noted that it's a historic building. This is charming, but there's no elevator if that's an issue for you. There are rooms on the first floor to accommodate this, but it has a stoop as well for entry. They send out a very nice PDF prior to your stay - unlike most hotel publications this is very useful. As a frequent visitor to Philly, all of their recommendations are good including the parking one. You'll need it since street parking is about as successful as it is in any other city (it isn't).

Impeccably designed, cozy boutique hotel right in the middle of things. We came for a long weekend in Philly that was mostly focused on food & museums. This hotel was within walking distance of many spots we wanted to try. The rooms are beautiful, and communication was great via their “invisible service” model. They stocked the room with treats and coffee before our stay, including a chemex which we had on our preference list. I also loved the attention to detail, with many of the vendors featured being women-owned businesses (for example, the toiletries in the bathroom, or the copper cow with the coffee setup). LOVED IT.
