My wife and I are 'living' in Philadelphia for a month as part of a US business trip. We have stayed at Sonder, The Witherspoon for the entire time and it has been excellent. The room is spacious with good cooking facilities, bed is very comfortable and have really enjoyed it. There is a break out area downstairs on L2 and I have been working from there a lot - its just like an office and has worked perfectly. Staff are great, location outstanding and Philly is a really good city to live in - it gets a bad wrap, but we have loved it. Only downside is that on Friday and Saturday nights it gets loud, as its close to some bars etc - BUT you have to expect that if you are downtown in any modern city. Overall, HIGHLY recommended. Could not fault anything about this place and we are about to go back for a second stint...

Sonder The Witherspoon Apartments Center City Introduce

For individuals and groups exploring "Hotels Near Of Me" with a preference for extended stays, Sonder The Witherspoon Apartments Center City, located at 130 South Juniper Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107, USA, offers a contemporary and amenity-rich apartment-hotel experience. Sonder properties, including The Witherspoon, are designed to provide a more home-like environment than traditional hotels, ideal for longer visits, business trips, or relocations.

The environment of Sonder The Witherspoon is strategically situated in Center City Philadelphia, a prime location that balances urban vibrancy with accessibility. The address on S Juniper Street places guests in close proximity to major attractions and essential amenities. Just a short walk away is the iconic Rittenhouse Square, known for its elegant ambiance, green spaces, and upscale boutiques. The area is a hub for dining, with a vast array of restaurants, cafes, and bars catering to every palate. Guests can easily explore the diverse culinary scene, from casual eateries to fine dining establishments. The "location outstanding" is a consistent highlight in reviews, offering convenient access to Philadelphia's cultural landmarks, including the Pennsylvania Convention Center and Reading Terminal Market, a historic public market offering an array of fresh produce and diverse eateries. Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, key historical sites, are also readily accessible. The neighborhood is well-served by public transportation, including the SEPTA subway system, connecting guests to various parts of the city, such as the Philadelphia Zoo or Eastern State Penitentiary. While the central location provides excellent connectivity, it also means guests should expect the typical urban sounds, particularly on "Friday and Saturday nights" due to proximity to bars, which is a common characteristic of downtown areas in any modern city, as noted by a reviewer. The building itself, originally constructed in 1895, boasts a beautiful sandstone facade and Corinthian columns, blending historical architecture with modern interior design.

The services offered by Sonder The Witherspoon operate on a distinctive model that prioritizes a digital and contactless guest experience. Unlike traditional hotels with a continuously staffed front desk, Sonder typically utilizes a "virtual front desk" and a dedicated app for check-in, keyless entry, and communication. This allows for seamless "contactless check-in/out." Guests manage their stay through the Sonder app, which can be used to "request amenities," "schedule housekeeping" (available on request for a nominal fee), update check-in/check-out times, and connect to Wi-Fi. While there may be "limited hour front desk" presence or "on-site team available during business hours," the primary mode of interaction is digital. This approach offers flexibility and independence, appealing to guests who prefer a streamlined, tech-driven service model. However, it is important to note that some reviews express frustration with this model, particularly when immediate assistance is needed, such as issues with reservations or security concerns, indicating a potential need for improved physical presence or more responsive virtual support in certain situations. The hotel also provides concierge services for general assistance and luggage storage. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and housekeeping services are available on request, which promotes an environmentally sustainable stay. Languages spoken by staff often include English, Spanish, and French, catering to a diverse clientele.

The features of Sonder The Witherspoon are tailored for extended stays, providing the comforts and conveniences of a home. The property consists of 184 smoke-free apartments, each "individually decorated" and "individually furnished," ensuring a unique yet consistent style. A major highlight is the "fully equipped kitchen" in every unit, complete with a full-sized refrigerator/freezer, stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee/tea maker, toaster, and all necessary cookware, dishware, and utensils. This feature is invaluable for longer stays, allowing guests to prepare their own meals and save on dining expenses. Rooms are spacious, often described as "large" or "spacious," providing ample living and sleeping areas. For example, a one-bedroom apartment might be around 500-700 sq ft, while a two-bedroom lofted apartment can be over 1300 sq ft. The "bed is very comfortable," and units typically include a sofa bed for additional guests. In-suite laundry facilities (washer and dryer with detergent pods included) are a significant convenience for extended stays. Entertainment is provided via 40-inch flat-screen TVs with digital channels and streaming services (e.g., Roku), as cable is typically not available. Other amenities include air conditioning, heating, private bathrooms with designer toiletries (like Molton Brown) and hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, and wardrobes. For those working remotely, there's often a dedicated workspace or a break-out area downstairs (Level 2), which one guest found "just like an office and has worked perfectly." Some units may feature specific layouts like split-level apartments or lofts, offering unique living experiences. While not all units have direct views of Rittenhouse Square, many offer city views. The building itself features an elevator for accessibility. It is important to note that some units might have steps within the apartment (e.g., split-level units) and some bedrooms might be partially open or use curtains instead of solid walls.

Promotional information for Sonder The Witherspoon Apartments Center City on a platform like "Hotels Near Of Me" would emphasize its key differentiators. The primary appeal lies in its combination of a prime Center City location with the spaciousness and self-sufficiency of apartment living. Promotions would highlight the "excellent" location, offering easy access to Philadelphia's cultural, dining, and business hubs. The "spacious" rooms with "good cooking facilities" and "in-suite laundry" would be major selling points for extended stays, corporate travelers, and families. The comfortable beds and the convenience of a dedicated workspace or breakout area would also be attractive features. The overall "highly recommended" status from satisfied guests would be leveraged, showcasing the positive "vibe" and great staff interaction. While the virtual service model is a core part of Sonder's brand, promotions might focus on the "24/7 virtual support" and "keyless entry" as modern conveniences, perhaps downplaying the lack of a traditional physical front desk to avoid potential misunderstandings. For loyalty program members, its affiliation with Marriott Bonvoy could be a draw. Promotional offers might include flexible cancellation policies, discounted rates for longer stays (e.g., for a month-long business trip, as one reviewer mentioned), or specific packages for different apartment types. Potential guests would be advised to note the urban noise on weekends and the possibility of non-traditional service delivery, but the overall message would be one of modern, convenient, and comfortable apartment-style living in a desirable Philadelphia location.

We arrived on 4/30 there were homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks in front of the building and questionable people hanging out a few feet from the front door. Did not feel safe for myself or my son. Got into the building and there was nobody physically at the front desk ever. After waiting for sometime I finally called the number for Sonders I found in email. Turns out we were to check in the following day. We were in town for the WSI hockey tournament. Talked to customer service on the phone. Lady said she would confirm with our team representative to confirm that our team was at a different hotel and it was a mistake on their part for sending out Sonders info. They said they would email me on 5/1 confirming our cancelation due to their mistake. And the refund. No email on 5/1. Called on 5/2 they confirmed had record of 5/1 call. They did not confirm anything with representative who sent us Sonder info and said they didn't cancel reservations at all. I will never stay at Sonders in Philadelphia. It is not a safe area. You cannot get a hold of anyone in customer service forever, then get disconnected. Clearly they don't communicate within the organization bc lady on 4/30 said the complete opposite as lady on 5/2. I talked with our organization and they will never use Sonders again for future hockey tournaments on the grounds of an unsafe environment and terrible customer service. Terrible experience.

I booked this trip a month in advance of the Eagles Super Bowl parade. After reading some of the negative reviews I was a bit nervous of what to expect. When I arrived I was surprised at how nice the place was. It was very clean and had everything I needed. Some people were even nice enough to have logged into their streaming accounts on the smart TV; so I had plenty entertainment. The kitchen had all the utensils, pots, and pans, etc. There’s even a washer and dryer inside the apartment. They provide detergent pods. If you plan on cooking, you’ll need to provide your own butter, olive oil, and any condiments you want. They do provide salt and pepper grinders, but that’s about it. The coffee they provided also wasn’t bad at all! The room was fairly quiet, not a lot of noise. My room faced the inside so I had a view of another building and all the boiler room pipes and duct work. I have zero complains about my stay. It exceeded my expectations. The only thing I can say as a slight negative is the ceiling in my unit was very high so the space wouldn’t get much warmer than 72° since all the heat rose about 15 feet in the air… except for when I was cooking, the space was kinda chilly. Speaking of heater: it did run pretty loud but after a while it becomes white noise. I love the free luggage lockers they have available in case you need to store your luggage after check out. This was clutch for me since my checkout was 11am Friday and the Eagles parade started at 11am. I was able to keep my bags there and attend the parade. I was able to get back to the hotel through the crowd to retrieve my bags and get to the airport in time for my flight. Overall it was a great stay! I’d definitely stay here again. In fact, this will be my first choice the next time I come to Philly.

Room was quaint but nice and very clean. Had everything I needed. Washer and dryer plus full sized coffee maker was a nice touch. Didn’t use the kitchen but it seemed to be fully stocked and had a full sized fridge. Stayed during the week and the noise level was low. Didn’t hear many others in the hotel. Easy to access the front door and the room with the code and digital key. Only minor annoyance was that the windows looked into apartments next door. Had to keep the blinds closed at all times. I’d definitely stay here again.

We loved our three night stay here! This was our first Sonder experience and would do it again based on this trip. App was easy to navigate, and we always saw staff at the desk if an issue had come up, I am sure it could have been resolved. Room was as expected. Nothing luxurious and maybe a tad outdated, but excellent value for the price and very central location. Perfect for getting to the Philly sports area by SEPTA. Station is just around the block. Endless food options nearby too. Overall you can't go wrong staying here for a trip to Philadelphia!
