Location was ideal for my business trip in the room while small was adequate. It seemed a bit overpriced for the amenities. The fitness center is quite small more like a fitness closet, but at least had a decent set of dumbbells and a peloton as well as two treadmills and an elliptical. The service was very helpful and polite. The breakfast food was as expected for a free buffet. Not so good.
For those searching "Hotels Near Of Me" in the bustling Greater Boston area, specifically within Cambridge, the Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge at 191 Monsignor O'Brien Hwy, Cambridge, MA 02141, USA, frequently appears as a prominent option. This Hilton-branded hotel aims to provide a reliable and convenient stay for both business and leisure travelers due to its strategic location and standard Hampton Inn amenities. However, recent customer feedback suggests a varied guest experience, particularly concerning service quality and value for money.
Environment: Urban Accessibility with Design Limitations
The Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge is situated on Monsignor O'Brien Highway (Route 28), placing it in a busy urban corridor. While not directly nestled within the historic charm of Harvard or MIT campuses, its location offers significant advantages for accessibility. It's less than two miles from both Harvard and MIT, making it a viable option for those visiting these prestigious institutions. A key environmental benefit is its direct proximity to the Lechmere T (subway) station, which is located just across the street. This provides quick and easy access to downtown Boston, the TD Garden for sports and concerts, and other key areas of the city, making it an excellent base for car-free exploration.
The hotel, built in 2002 and reportedly renovated in February 2021, features 114 rooms spread across seven floors. While the rooms are generally described as clean and modern, some reviews note them as being "small." The aesthetic is typically what one would expect from a Hampton Inn – functional, contemporary, and designed for comfort rather than lavishness. Common areas are likely well-maintained, but the overall atmosphere might feel more like a transit-oriented hotel rather than a resort, given its highway-side location. The fitness center is specifically mentioned as being "quite small," almost like a "fitness closet," which could be a drawback for guests accustomed to more expansive workout facilities.
Services: Standard Offerings with Inconsistent Hospitality
As a Hampton Inn, the hotel generally adheres to the brand's commitment to offering specific services to enhance guest stays. These typically include:
However, recent customer reviews highlight a significant area of concern: staff hospitality. One Hilton Honors member reported feeling that their check-in was an "inconvenience" to the staff, describing them as "not welcoming." This individual expressed a desire to "avoid any interactions with staff," which is a notable departure from the expected service standard of a Hilton brand. This suggests a potential inconsistency in staff demeanor and attentiveness, which can greatly impact the overall guest experience.
Features: Location-Centric Benefits and Room Basics
The core features of the Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge primarily revolve around its convenient location and standard in-room amenities:
While the hotel was renovated in 2021, the emphasis appears to be on standardizing comfort and providing functional amenities rather than luxurious ones, which aligns with the Hampton Inn brand. The "small" nature of the fitness center and the reported size of some rooms indicate a focus on efficiency in an urban environment.
Promotional Information: Your Gateway to Boston & Cambridge, with a Caveat
The Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge promotes itself as a well-located, convenient, and comfortable option for exploring the Boston and Cambridge area. Its key promotional messages would naturally highlight its unparalleled access to public transportation, allowing guests to reach downtown Boston in minutes, as well as its proximity to Harvard and MIT. The inclusion of free hot breakfast and free parking are significant draws for travelers, particularly in a region where these amenities can be costly.
However, prospective guests should note the contrasting experiences reported in recent reviews. While some guests found the location and room quality appealing, others were disappointed by the perceived value for money, citing the small size of the rooms and limited amenities for the rate. More critically, the feedback regarding staff being "not welcoming" and creating a feeling of "inconvenience" for guests is a serious point of consideration. As a Hilton Honors member, the expectation of recognition and basic courtesies like offering water upon check-in, which were reportedly absent, suggests a need for improvement in staff training or customer service culture at this specific location. Therefore, while the Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge offers a highly practical and convenient base for navigating the greater Boston area, particularly for those utilizing public transport, visitors should temper their expectations regarding the level of personalized service and the spaciousness of amenities. It is a functional hotel for a business trip or a short stay focusing on exploration, but some may find the overall experience, especially concerning hospitality, to be less than the standard expected from a Hilton-affiliated property.

Mar 23, 2025 · Gregory AustinWe recently had a brief overnight stay at this hotel. The location and room were nice. The staff was not what I expected from Hampton, a Hilton brand. They were not welcoming and we felt our checking in was an inconvenience to them. As a Hilton Honor member, I was offered simple amenities like water when I check in at other places without me asking as they recognized my Hilton Honors status during registration. This place did no such thing. I rarely have the feeling of avoiding any interactions with staff let alone at a Hilton name place. I really wanted to avoid their night staff that stay.
Mar 10, 2025 · Anthony NgThey do not clean the rooms properly. Reserved a room for family members. They had to move rooms 2 times because of the lack of cleanliness only to arrive in a room where the fridge was filled with food from the previous guests. How can a guests feel confident that the place is hygienic and that the breakfast is safe if you don’t incorporate good cleaning practices and pay attention to details . I hope the owner/manager reads this feedback and institutes changes.
Nov 30, 2024 · S FasuyiGreat location, Lechmere T train station is right outside the hotel, which also serves as a hub for several bus lines. However, if you’re a super light sleeper, you might be bothered by this because you might feel or hear the trains go by. It became white noise for me and didn’t affect my quality of sleep at all even though I consider myself a light sleeper. The underground garage parking is free and is accessed via hotel keycard. The spots are very close together though, so maneuvering in the garage with a larger vehicle will need patience. Like others have said, parking will likely be challenging to find in the garage if it’s a popular weekend or peak travel season. There is no EV charging in the garage but there are 4 public chargers on streets nearby (2 on water street and 2 on Morgan for $0.24/ kWh). These street parking spots are free but limited to 2 hours from 8AM-8PM, so you can charge overnight if you find a spot. I’m currently here in the middle of January and parking was easy to find on Thursday, more challenging on Friday but still a handful of empty spots, and Saturday night was the busiest but still didn’t have a scenario where I didn’t find a spot upon arriving at the garage. In total there are probably around 30 parking spots. Breakfast is ok, standard Hampton inn fare of bananas, apples, oatmeal, waffle stations, orange juice, drip coffee, scrambled eggs, sausage, etc The gym is very small here but has 1 peloton bike, 2 treadmills, and free weights up to 50. Hotel is dog friendly and the rate is 75 per stay up to 4 nights with additional charges for additional nights or dogs
Jan 14, 2025 · FreddyRooms on the O'Brien Highway side are quite noisy due to traffic. Rooms are as small as one finds in midtown Manhattan. The heating/air conditioning unit leaks a lot of cold air whether it's running or not. Front desk staff could have been a bit friendlier.
