Considering how expensive the hotel room was I thought it was going to be a lot nicer.. So, the entry way was beautiful when we arrived and checked in we spoke with Winston, the front desk associate, he was absolutely wonderful and enthusiastic! Then going to the room the elevator the beeping was annoying, then getting to our the room was nice a clean minus a few things, the computer chair was very gross (they did bring us another one tho), the room was smaller than expected, there was no phone cord to hotel phone, the was phone broken too. Then later going to the pool it was very small and the water was pretty cold, so my kids didn’t want to stay in it. Next day we went to get breakfast, and there was no continental breakfast, then when we ordered food, the order was wrong, and it took a while. The parking wasn’t very good I’m guessing because of the location. I think $25 for parking or valet is kinda expensive too! Especially if we were only staying a night. Overall, unfortunately we won’t be staying there again. I would have to rate the hotel 3 stars. I wouldn’t recommend staying there.
For local users and travelers searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Philadelphia area, the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue, located at 4200 City Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19131, USA, presents itself as a prominent option. This full-service hotel aims to provide a comprehensive hospitality experience. You can reach the hotel directly at (215) 879-4000 or via mobile at +1 215-879-4000 for inquiries, reservations, or event planning. As a Hilton property, it carries the brand's expectation of quality and a wide range of services.
However, it is important to note that the hotel is approximately a 20-minute drive from downtown Philadelphia attractions such as the historic district, museums, and sports arenas. This means guests primarily interested in downtown sightseeing will need to factor in travel time. The surrounding area often hosts "constant events," which can impact street parking availability. Despite being in a city environment, the immediate surroundings of the hotel on City Avenue are generally perceived as a well-established commercial corridor rather than a residential neighborhood. The elegant entry way, as noted by a guest, contributes to the initial impression of the hotel's environment.
However, several aspects of the guest experience, as reflected in the provided reviews, indicate areas for improvement. The "beeping" elevators and reports of rooms and elevators smelling "like smoke" detract from the overall comfort. The indoor pool, while an amenity, appears to be a point of dissatisfaction due to its small size and cold water temperature, which "defeats the purpose of an indoor pool during colder months."
Practical issues like the lack of a "do not disturb sign" in the room (leading to a handwritten replacement) and non-functional in-room phones point to maintenance and operational oversights. The described breakfast experience, with no continental option, incorrect orders, and long wait times, significantly impacts guest satisfaction, especially given the perceived "expensive" room rates. The high cost of parking is also a deterrent for some guests. Furthermore, the security concern regarding the non-functional elevator card reader is a serious issue that directly impacts guest safety and peace of mind. Overall, while some elements of the hotel, like specific staff members, receive praise, the cumulative experience for some guests falls short of expectations, leading to a "3-star" rating and a reluctance to return.
For those searching on "Hotels Near Of Me," the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue might initially appear appealing due to its brand recognition and full-service offerings. However, potential guests should carefully weigh the reported issues, particularly regarding the pool temperature, inconsistent dining service, high parking fees, and critical security concerns with the elevator system, against the published rates. While the hotel undoubtedly serves as a key venue for events and business meetings, and certain staff members provide excellent service, the overall guest experience, as indicated by some reviews, may not align with the expected value of a Hilton property. Therefore, an objective assessment would suggest that while the hotel offers a broad range of services, guests should manage their expectations regarding certain amenities and operational consistency.

May 11, 2025 · Jessica HeiserThe price isn’t worth it. I asked if they could warm the pool up (since it was cold) and they said they didn’t have the capabilities to do that, which defeats the purpose of an indoor pool during colder months. I asked for a do not disturb sign since there wasn’t already one in the room. I was given a written sign since they didn’t have any do not disturb signs. There is constant events which take all the street parking. The rooms and elevators smell like smoke. For the location as well, the price is definitely steep; considering it’s a 20 minute drive from downtown. In terms of security, the elevator has a card reader that doesn’t work… this allows ANYONE to come to any floor of the hotel which isn’t good considering it’s in a city with one of the high crime rates in the country… room cleaners/ maintenance workers are loud and you can hear them in the hallway during the day as well.
May 16, 2025 · Kaanu RDecent location but needs some work for the prices people have to pay. Rooms are old tired and dirty! And this is a large king bed room with a view. So I can’t imagine what the other rooms are like. Very sparse and depressing looking. At least the floor I was on was quiet. Lobby looked like it was getting renovated - the bar there was clearly looking new and nice but wasn’t open to public yet. The staff were nice and helpful. Yet - didn’t even get a free bottle of water in the room the second day of the stay. Again probably not the staff’s fault but the lack of hospitality just not matching the cost!
Feb 23, 2025 · Barbara GultenThis location was a good price for the proximity to the city, however, I did not like the parking situation. There was no mention on the website of parking not being available, however, when I arrived, the receptionist informed me that if I arrived early in the day the street parking was up for grabs. If you could find a spot that you fit in, valet was an option if you wanted to pay for it, or there was a parking lot down the block on the right that was available for an additional cost as well. I had issues both times that I tried to park in the parking lot, whether it would not give a ticket or whether the person at the desk was not available to validate. The valets were very kind each time I was coming and going offering to assist me with things. The room was adequate. I wasn’t there very much. I was out seeing the site on vacation.
May 20, 2025 · Emma PorterfieldI was expecting it’s going to be a good hotel based on the price. But I’m disappointed! First of all, the location is far away from the city. Parking is a headache and there’s no lighting in the parking lot. Room is mid, old and not that clean. There’s 0 noise proof because I can literally “talk” to people in the next room. Staff at the front desk is not very helpful. But the doorman is really sweet. Not as what I expect. Do not recommend.
